Some of the worst Italian food I have encountered. There must not be anyone from NY living within a 10 mile radius of this place, which somehow has been open since 1974. Any NY person would laugh this place to death. The pizza was NY STYLE in name only. Soft dough, too much cheese and a bad tasting sauce and crust. Time for a new recipe. Is this place a joke? I called and ordered a large pizza, a sub, and a fry. Gave the guy my name and he told me how long it was gonna be. My husband went to go pick it up and the guy had no food or no idea what we were talking about. He was either drunk or on drugs because he was slurring his words and out of it. My husband kept asking if he had an order with our name and he just stared at us confused and out of it. I called back and the same guy answered and he said he "forgot to write down my order" an didn't remember that I "wanted a sub and fries" I literally asked him if he was on something or under the influence because that's how messed up this guy was. Over the last 10 years, I've seen snow more times in Phoenix than I have a pizzeria offering pizza by the slice. Being a New Yorker, I know is nothing more clutch than to grab 2 slices and a cherry coke mid day for lunch . I was ecstatic when I heard Raffaele's, a family owned NY pizza joint was selling pizza by the slice. So I found myself at Rafaffaels that same day. Air deflated out of my interior balloon as the selection of slices was underwhelming- only cheese and pepperoni. No Sicilian? No margarita? No meatball available ? Tried this place out a half dozen times, but honestly can't recommend them, at least not for dine in. The pizza itself wasn't bad at all, actually pretty decent and mostly consistent. Toppings were fresh, including the mushrooms (definitely not canned). Wings, on the other hand, were disappointing. Seemed like bland wings smothered after the fact with overpowering sauces. Probably some of the worst I've had in a while, in fact. Service was hit or miss for us, with most of them being misses on account of inattentive servers. The owner was always there, to his credit, but consistently checked out and preoccupied. Each time the restaurant was at least 2/3rd empty, so there's no excuse for that level of service. That brings me to my last point. This place is not family friendly. I'm no prude, but when you have some asshole drunk retiree sitting at the bar, loudly dropping the F-bomb every other sentence, it gets old really fast. The owner was present and engaged each time this happened, but despite having kids and literal babies in diapers with a few feet, he did nothing about it. Sorry but letting drunk patrons piss all over the dining experience like that is low class. We finally gave up and won't be back. We miss the pizza, but not the non-existent service or the loudmouthed, drunk regulars at the bar. read more

What's better than a local pizza place that makes the pizzas right in front of you?! Not much. May it's just me, but I find a lot of places the magic all happens in a closed-off kitchen, so it was fun to watch while we waited. In addition, the pizza sauce was very VERY good - when mixed with a really decent base/crust and the right amount of cheese, these pies tasted absolutely dynamite! I decided to try Raffaele's after reading so many positive Yelp reviews and I'm so glad I did. I am a hard judge of pizza, especially Sicilian pizza and all I have to say is Raffaele's Pizza has some of the best Sicilian Pizza around town. This place is absolutely SKETCH! They provide NO itemized bill, the driver and the phone person gave different answers regarding FEES for a delivery. The mushrooms were cold and the pizza is hardly anything for $42. Seriously....I'm calling my credit card company and deducting the charges. They have a really good hustle going on. I love this place, whenever we want good old-fashioned pizza this joint is our first choice. Everything I get from here is amazing. My only very minor complaint is that you have to deal with Slice, and Slice is great but they can be overzealous sometimes. Today we order 4 slices and a sandwich the two pepperoni slices came as cheese. No one at our house cares so we just ask Slice to refund whatever the pepperoni cost, and they made them send someone back to our house with new slices. Now I feel bad for even saying anything because the last thing I want is for the pizza place to think we're a bunch of dicks that demanded new slices when really I just asked for the buck back. Literally, words to Slice "Just take off the extra charge for Pepperoni and were all set." My family has been ordering from Raffaele's since WAY before I was born and it's the best thing they could have ever passed down to me. I constantly crave their meatball pizza and meatball sub. Raffaeles Pizza is the best option for New York style pizza in Phoenix . It is located right behind 711 and a smoke shop. The inside is very old school, even a vintage cash register, because they've been serving pizza since the 70s. There was a man outside with a sign that was advertising the restaurant.
