I am very torn about Ragamuffin. I visit them maybe once a week or less for their matcha when I don't have time to make my own. You can either get their culinary grade or upgrade to ceremonial for $1. It is an extra $1 for a special syrup (like lavender) and another extra $1 for oatmilk. And $1 (or more sometimes!) for a cream top. And therein lies the problem. Often a 12oz drink becomes $9-$12 and that is significantly more than I spend on a 12-16oz matcha literally anywhere else. I've tried all the spots from La La Land, Caje, Stagger, Series A, Danbi, Dash Coffee Bar, Morning Mood, Lynx... and all of their drinks are 1. Better than Ragamuffin, 2. Cheaper, and 3. Sometimes larger! Don't get me wrong, Ragamuffin's matcha is not bad and I will continue to go, but the price is simply ridiculous and it is certainly not a standout from other places in Ventura County or LA. I will say the Oxnard location is often much better than the Newbury Park in terms of customer service and consistency of the drinks. And their rewards program kinda sucks. Man. Maybe there is a lot wrong with this shop? But much room for improvement! read more

This is a very cute coffee shop tucked back into newbury park. We got a cortado and a bourbon vanilla latte, along with a butterscotch chocolate chip cookie. There were a good amount of people there, but nobody in line, so we didn't expect it to take so long for our drinks to come out. We probably waited about 15 minutes for our coffee. It seemed like a bunch of people were walking in and grabbing coffee at the counter, so I don't know if they maybe have an order ahead option that we didn't know about. The cortado was good, but is very strong (mostly espresso with a little milk on top). I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't recommend drinking it on an empty stomach because it gave me a killer headache. The bourbon vanilla latte was good, I'd recommend. The cookie was pretty good, but very sweet. The hot breakfast stuff looked and smelled really good and we'd wished we'd ordered something! No longer dedicated gluten free and the few pastries that are gluten free are hanging out in the same case as the gluten bombs. I took a chance anyway, and they threw it in a bag without warming. I brought it back and requested it warmed up on a plate, but they heated it in the bag and handed it back. I guess they no longer have plates and real cups as everything was disposable. Delicious coffee and even more excellent staff. Love how there is always a full and happy team working here. Lots of seating indoors and outdoors. Next to all the Trader Joe's goodies next door. Oat milk honey lattes are my fav here. Especially lovely when enjoyed with ham and cheese frittatas. All of the pastries are amazing when warmed especially the cinnamon croissant, strawberry danish, gluten free snickerdoodle cookies, and above all citrus olive oil cake made from Santa Monica. I've been coming to this location for 10 years, and have loved watching it change and evolve. A few things have stayed consistent: their coffee, their commitment to their community, and their customer service (for better or for worse). I joke with a lot of my coffee loving friends that sometimes I'll drive to Oxnard these days for friendlier service, or go to a competing small batch roaster so I can ask a brew, grind, or processing question. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in and was immediately greeted by an employee that used to be at a different coffee shop I go to when I am at work. He greeted me by name, which I could take as a common courtesy since we've met before, but then he proceeded to greet the group after me with the same enthusiasm. Historically, this has not been the vibe at ragamuffin. All my friends and I come for the coffee, not the warm ambiance, but I gotta say it was genuinely so nice to have a refreshing, welcoming experience. I found myself at this location three times this week instead of the usual once a month. I want to be clear, no one is rude here! They all seem focused or preoccupied, and as someone that used to be a barista I totally get it. But what you miss when you're not engaging your customers is an opportunity to know them, to remember them, and to connect with your community more deeply. When I'm in the land of the Thousand Oaks this is my go to for truly good coffee. Service is always with a smile, the recommendations about the blends are usually spot on and the avocado toast (and the almond butter toast!) are some of the finest I've had West of the 5 freeway. The place is comfortable with a cool yet friendly coffee shop vibe. Outdoor seating is also pretty comfortable and you can almost forget you are in a shopping center parking lot. I also like the other patrons, especially when I see them holding bible study sessions (CLU students?). I'm not a religious man myself, I'm actually an atheist, but I do love chatting about the bible and religion in general. My ex-girlfriend really had no interest in religion and had no interest in exploring the precepts or origins of her faith, to which she subscribed and whole-heartedly believed. She was kind of closed minded about these things and would get really annoyed with me if I talked with other people about religion, or if I read a book on religion (she actually made me feel so bad about this that I gave away my collection of Bart Ehrman books). And her faith did not make her a better person, no it did not. I promise you this is not sour grapes, but so you get a sense of her, and I promise this is true: She told me that she was moving to NYC and driving cross country with her new very wealthy 68-year-old plastic surgeon boyfriend and they were bringing a defibrillator with them because, and I swear this is true, if he died on the trip she wouldn't get any money because she wasn't in the will yet. Pretty busy cafe with a decent ambience. There was no vacant seating indoors so we took a table outside. We ordered Acai cruiser, Avocado Toast, Latte and an Iced Tea. For some reason, I thought Newbury Park is a cheaper location than San Francisco. The menu prices gave a different impression. The Latte was definitely better than Starbucks but a little expensive. The Avocado Toast and Acai cruiser were meh and were definitely expensive for the quality. The staff was friendly. The coffee was prepared in around 5 mins of ordering. The food took more than 20 mins though. It maybe a one-off thing. But if you like to eat your food along side of your coffee, better to order the food first and coffee later once the food is done. I've been coming here on and off for years! I like the location and the coffee is usually pretty fantastic! The only thing that's frustrating is the attitude from the employees :( more times than not my experience has been the workers just aren't very nice and don't acknowledge me. Don't come between 2-4pm though, the nearby high school gets out then and the all the cafe seating gets taken by high schoolers who I've seen don't always buy anything, just take up all the seats. read more

I have seen this coffee shop several times while going to the Trader Joe's which is in the same parking lot and was always curious to try it out. I was visiting my mom and I told her for us to go out and grab a coffee Sunday morning. She told me my sister had tried it and it was good....so now I had to try it because my sister loves her coffee! I was surprised to see how cute the place was inside. It had a chic, boho, modern feeling to it and was bigger than I had anticipated. There are about 5 tables inside you can sit at and more outside. We got there before 9am and there wasn't much of a line but by the time we ordered, it got very busy! Seemed like alot of locals getting together here. It was a nice small community type of feeling which was nice. the staff were friendly. They had lots of coffee options and even have breakfast options! Like a real cooked breakfast, not just baked good. I got a honey lavender latte and it was delicious! I had never tried one before and I was pleased. I normally get one of their specialty lattes, as those never disappoint. Love the variety in their syrup options! It is a bit pricey, but their syrups are unique to their store and housemade so it's understandable. However, I also recently tried their Americano and I think I've found my new go-to! It came out scalding though so I had to wait for it to cool down, but the flavor was great with no acidity and wasn't super bitter - went down smoooooth. STUDY SPACE - Ragamuffin is a great reliable work/study space. Free Wi-Fi, outlets, and seating! I stopped here on my way south just looking for some caffeine and was so happy that it turned out to be a really cute cafe with cool drinks and sweet employees. I asked for the barista's recommendation and they recommended the bourbon caramel latte hot because it was cold outside. I got it with almond milk and it was bomb!! Nice seating outside and inside, we ordered our breakfast burritos and drinks online and selected our pastries when we got here. The Mexican mocha was Delicious per my husband and my vanilla matcha latte was way better than my normal Starbucks and the tri- tip breakfast burrito with crispy bacon, aïoli, potatoes, scrambled eggs and salsa is one of the best I've ever had. It's all in the newbury park Trader Joe's parking lot. So service is fast but you can also hang and chill for a while. 10/10. The only down side is I live in Camarillo and this is in newbury park. read more
