They also provided a generous portion of pepper sauce to accompany the fish, which added great flavor to the meal. The customer service was very good as well. Rahama is a woodbridge/ Lakeridge staple. They have extremely well seasoned food and a staff that cares for their costumers experience. Every time I have been to their restaurant it always feels like I am welcomed home by their food and their presence. I went first a few years ago and liked their Jollof rice, but nothing else. This time I ordered chicken with the rice, that was fried and placed in with the rice dish. It was old, over cooked, and not crispy. I could not eat it. I would have preferred stew chicken with the rice. Their beans had too much grease, more like old fashioned lard. I knew this and was prepared to strain them. Plantains we're ok. The place was clean, nicely decorated, and service was adequate for a restaurant. 2.5*. Pros: - The bean stew IS REALLY GOOD! The best thing I've tried at Rahama. It is vegan so i believe you can pay extra to add meat. -The peanut soup & fufu is alright, not jammed packed with flavor but still gets the job done. -jallof rice is good too. -Attieke is good too, but i was a bit disappointed in the chicken provided in it as it was a bit burnt and seemingly dated chicken. But the croaker fish was alright. They also gave me a almost salsa like pepper sauce that wasn't spicy. Not sure if they hadn't had time to cook the sauce yet & thought that'll do or if that's how theirs really comes but the sauce was still good. - The beef kabob was a little lacking in flavor and a bit dry. This place is great for convenience if you're in the area or the only African food place you have nearby but I believe If they invested more in more quality local ingredients that bring the flavors of west African food together, and also higher quality meats it will improve drastically & taste alot more authentic as now it tastes a bit less authentic. Customer service is ok but nothing extravagant. I've visited two of their locations; And I can say the same for both. Was very excited about the fried yam meal. Took a bite and the yam was so dry. Inspected it further and it's raw inside. Who doesn't boil yam before frying it?! So I stopped by because I saw the Ghanaian flag in the window and have eaten Ghanaian food before, it peaked my interest to try their restaurant. The first visit I ordered egusi with pounded yam, it was underwhelming because the meat that came in my plate was simply not meat at all, just bone and cartilage; the stew was nice so I removed the bulky pieces and ate the rest. Came back today to order jollof with beef - the rice tasted like the bottom of a freezer, it was so disappointing. I am now sure this restaurant just does not serve good ingredients because two different meals on two different days only the disappointment is consistent. We decided to dine in, you order your food at the counter and take a seat. We ordered a few items to share and also their dessert in a cup which i didn't get a name. #5 - Fufuo & Chicken Soup #9 - Awaakye & Fish and Meat #12 - Atseke #17 - Fried chicken with fried rice #22 - Spicy Khebob #5 - I would have imagined that this dish would come with something else, like rice? but nope, you eat it with your hands. The center blob is like mashed potatoes but thicker, and chicken is chicken. Kinda tastes like curry had made love to tom yum soup. They also give you a side of water in a big bowl so you can wash your fingers. #9 - This was the most random dish that we ordered, lol spaghetti noodles on the side with some weird orange thing, the beef that was in there was very tender and shredded like pot roast meat. There was also a small piece of fried fish in the mix but because of the sauce that they covered it with, it was soggy. There was also an egg and #12 - Fried fish but it came out kinda soggy but it was delrishes. This was also served with cassavas. #17 - Fried rice with fried chicken, the fried rice tasted like any bland Chinese fried rice, it was very bland and no flavoring. #22 - The kabobs were really tender and flavorful. It's a must try. The dessert in a cup was very sour, it has milk and sour cream as one of its ingredients, I forget what the rest were but this was no where near being sweet. The experience at Rahama, though a budding restaurant that has just opened for business about a month ago, warrants that kind of feeling. T-Z! T-Z! T-Z! No, it's not a nickname, it's an acronym for the food called Tuo Zaafi. Most Ghanaians call the food "T-Zed", which is so appropriate - and I secretly like saying it; because, as an American I always thought saying A - to - Zed sounded so cool! This whole review is about the soup that I place only second to my mother's gumbo. The level of salt & spice is perfect. The jute leaves & beef (or fish) just seem to fit together in culinary harmony. One word ... umami. I can never tire of this soup. I encourage everyone to try it. The authenticity of Rahama's T-Zed has been verified by local Ghanaians who traveled from all over the DMV to get it. The waakye, jollof & crab soup are also up to par. The T-Zed, alone, gets five stars.... there's no need to even mention the hospitality the owners show. read more

If I could give this place less than a star I would. I spent entirely to much money on food that was quite noticeably old and lacked any type of flavor. The first thing that went wrong was them Not sending me what I had ordered! I ORDERED the stewed okra and goat with some fried chicken. I got some kind of nasty coleslaw mess with old tough and disgusting "goat" meat and the fried chicken was very sad and very disgusting. If you are ever craving African food please save your money and go somewhere else because you will surely be disappointed and very angry as I am. First, I have to say that Tuo Zaafi apparently isn't my thing. I just don't care fro the texture. The okra soup was pretty good, and very well seasoned, but the meat was full of gristle and was almost too tough to cut. We checked but didn't realize what meats were given. When we got home and everyone opened their meal, every single one of the meats had been replaced with something else that we didn't order. For instance, my sister in law ordered the attieke with goat and she was given fish. She doesn't like fish. I ordered the jollof rice with beef, and I was given goat. My husband ordered yams with goat meat, and we got fried fish. He ordered the waakye with goat and beef, and he was given fish. So, a little history: I am African (born in the States, but lived there for a solid decade) and I LOVE African food, which to me is the real soul food. This review is about food, and their food is amaze balls. It really has that authentic quality, and I could easily believe that it came right out of the kitchen of my fave bukka (street food market) back home. That's the good part. The not so good part is the lackluster, sorta dingy dining area. The seating is pretty uncomfortable and the whole character of the place is bland. We have such a rich and interesting culture in Africa, that I feel it could be so much more colorful and lively. The service is hands down, horrible. I have resorted to ordering my food 30 minutes ahead, so I can even have a CHANCE of being served within 10 minutes of arrival. African food is an involved cooking process, but I KNOW all of that stuff is not being made fresh (it would take hours), so why the wait? Very little customer interaction there, too. Just a dead pan looking girl who takes your order and stares off into nothingness, but as soon as someone she knows hops in, she just lights up and becomes the most gracious hostess. This is common for street food establishments in Africa, but, well, they don't Yelp there. I would recommend the Peanut Soup, Jollof Rice, Palaver Sauce, and goat meat. The Tuo Zaafi is excellent, but this is not for a beginner. If this is your first rodeo, try a rice dish to get your feet wet. Pricing is super reasonable. Just remember- call ahead!! read more

Customer service was horrible ! It was busy in there took about 10 minutes for someone to even come out of the back to take my order , then it took 45 minutes to receive my food. I actually called ahead as recommended, but I'm guessing if you don't speak their language (no offense) their patience to explain certain food or ingredients or options are limited . I was asking what options came with the jollof and I wanted to know if the chicken was cut , if it was white meat or just legs was it cooked with the stew or not those simple questions couldn't be answered . There was a huge line and only one person at the front desk who was on the phone talking. She then disappeared for a few minutes. There are periods of time with nobody there. I have been coming to Rahama for years. I loved when they opened a location in DC since this one was way too far. Service is slow but never had any issues. The food is AMAZING!!! hence the one hour drive to patronize them. They need to open a location in PG county. Their waakye and jollof is great! Flavorful. I always buy more than one plate because of the distance. the place has changed for the better. I was surprised when I walked in. The Restaurant itself is not appealing. I've been there perhaps 4 times and ordered quite a few times. I constantly find dirty tables and floor, flies running about and a very disgusting restroom that never had soap, nor tissues paper to wipe hands. The employees do not look clean at all, it seems like they are rotating from the kitchen to the register and serving food to customers that dine in ( #crosscontamination ). On 6/1/2016 approximately11:30a I called in to order rice and bean with fish and hot pepper. Once I got home I took a bit of my food and tasted a burnt flavor of the rice and beans. When I looked at my food it looked as if they scraped the bottom of the pot and served it to me, to go. I was very disappointed so I called Rahama Restaurant for an exchange and the person at the cash register, a Ghanaian woman, answered and immediately began to yell at me that I cannot come and exchange food because she doesn't know what I've placed in it. Fist of all, just to educated her if she's reading this, in "America" you can return food if the customer feels like there's something wrong with their order; second honey were you trying to inform me that at Rahama restaurant, if you do return your food, it will be served to the next customer that orders the same thing? . I also asked her calmly if I could speak to the owner, her answer was "NO! THEY ARE NOT HERE, CALL BACK IN TWO HOURS I DON'T KNOW!!" The manner in which the problem was handled was very disrespectful, Rahama Restaurant needs to hired employees who are well trained in customer service etiquette. This is not my first bad experience with their cash register employee and, it certainly isn't the first time anyone will tell you of a bad experience there. If I had an option of selecting a zero Star, I would. Now I'm off to report Rahama restaurant to FDA. read more

The customer services is TERRIBLE here! The food is very flavorful and delightful. I did appreciate the authentic African food but theses associates are lost in space. Trying to interact with them like like talking into dead air. As a person who likes to try different cultural foods, I didn't feel welcomed at all.
