We ordered the Jollof Rice with Goat Stew and the Potatoe Leaf Stew. All was AMAZING! While we waited, she gave us the meat pies to try, with the perfect amount of curry and spice. She also does trays for events and now we have a place that will accommodate our next family event with the food we all love. Thank you Mrs. Hajara for sharing your restaurant and good food with us. I mean me and my coworkers at CVS pharmacy ordered food and we only got four items which were two orders of Salaya one order of fish ball and french fries which people pulled up to be $72 when we got the food, the Suya was absolutely burnt in. So usually when the owner is in the building of an establishment services at its best, however my visit yesterday to this establishment, the owner was present. She was present and pleasant however, upon receiving my order, it was less than normal which was requested however, this was the most amount of money rendered when I brought it to her attention because the last visit I actually took a picture of the tray so that I can ensure that I got the same food. She informed me that she had different workers who didn't know the pricing however, even looking at the plate, I asked her would you pay this amount for that she told me yes which was a lie because it was just chicken in a Cheakie with a lesser amount of a Cheakie than the normal serving upon arriving home I discovered that there was no real chicken. It was bones in back. I asked for no spice it was super spicy. I won't be back. Also I informed the owner that I would seek out another location for African food. She told me to go ahead basically because they had customers. I don't believe this establishment will be around long. I won't be back and will not recommend to anyone I understand portion sizes and pricing. My name alone should be a hint that I don't play about Nigerian food. And what most west African spots claim to serve as "suya" is typically an abomination. But NOT here at Hajara's Kitchen. Here, it was love at 1st bite! As soon as I had my 1st taste of suya, my mind went straight to FESTAC in Lagos (ie: some of the best suya I've ever eaten). This place gets it SO right, I called my sister out of state and told her she needed to try them ASAP...my real time review was so glowing Sis asked me to ask Ms. Hajara if she shipped cross country! Speaking of Ms. Hajara, she is THE sweetest, most sincere restaurateur I've met in years. Her vibe translates to the food: not ONE bad bite. I was introducing my date to Nigerian food, so I kept our choices basic. But even their basic entrees taste spectacular! I'll start off by saying the food is delicious and fresh, although the owner said she would have warned me of the spice level in the white okra soup if she had taken my order (I am visibly not Nigerian). Menus at other places indicate the spice level or a verbal warning is given and that didn't happen here. I'm not going to hold the spice against them. But there are discrepancies with the prices online, the prices on the in-store menus, and the prices charged. At least was the case for me. I ordered a side salad, the white okra stew with fufu and shrimp suya. The shrimp was disappointing. The price is listed as $22.99 on the menu and describes 5 skewers of shrimp. I kid you not we received 10 tiny shrimp on a plate and two sauce containers. I should have taken a photo it was unbelievable that they would ask $22.99 for that. The lamb in my okra stew was not so tender. Upon paying the attendant tried to up charge me for the shrimp and charged my white okra soup (19.99) as the egusi ($25.99)... and the price for the shrimp was reduced but it was still way overpriced based on what we received and what was described on the menu. Lastly the bathrooms were out of order with unflushed urine and no paper towels. I seek other recommendations in the area for when I am craving west African cuisine. read more

First OMG zero AC! I even asked if the fans could be turned on but they never were turned on. It was 4 of us and it felt like each meal was cooked 1 at a time. We used to live in Nigeria, so when one of our sons who is visiting us had a craving for suya, this is the place he found. It's a fair distance from our home in Fair Oaks, but was well-worth the drive to enjoy the excellent suya pizza and puff-puff. We took home an order of the suya, too, for the rest of the family to sample. I had wondered based on some earlier reviews whether this was take-out only, but it is a full-service place with nice seating. Service was fast, too, but there were only a couple other customers at the off-hour we were there. Had a great chat with the owner-chef also, who is from Kano. Hope to return soon. I ordered the huntu, fish roll, and meat pie. I was disappointed, the huntu was on the stronger side and the fish roll was a bit burnt. The meat pie's crust was good but the filling needed a bit more flavor. read more

I found this place on Yelp. At first I thought it was a food truck near my house since the address shown on yelp was so close. Call to order and she actually selling out from her house that end up being like 25 minutes away from me but I like to support another women business so why not. I was going to order 2 dish but the price is high than normal African restaurant which is odd to me since it pick and go not actual restaurant. I just order Cassava leafed stew $25, it does took a long time for food to be ready 35 minutes. Her son brought out the good and it come with 2 container 1 with rice and one the stew. It a good serving for 2 serving so I can see why it cost more but than it was not a lot of protein in the stew. I think it was lamb. The Cassava stew was amazing and spicy, I love how authentic it was and remind me of childhood growing up in my best friend African household. Can use a tab more season but I love it. 5/5 The rice it self was not that great, I am not sure what kind of rice it was but it was wide and chunky remind me of like the cheap rice. I visited the Woodbridge location today. I was really excited to try the Suya chicken. The young man behind the counter was very polite and respectful. The only issue was that he seemed to be more interested in the game he was playing than taking my order. No big deal. The chicken was old and very dry. You could tell it was reheated and not fresh. I couldn't eat it. I had to throw the entire dish away. This ruined my Mother's Day dinner. I will not be a repeat customer. read more

So listen, this is a secret gem!!! Hajara is a super sweet Naija home cook! When you call in for your order, you'll most likely speak to her directly. We ordered jollof, plantain, cassava leaf (stew), and her famous suya. African food takes a long time to cook, so make sure you call ahead of time as it is MADE TO ORDER. The food was ready about an hour and 30 mins, and it was percent worth it! The cassava leaf was one of the best my husband has ever had. He is from Guinea and he knows cassava! The plantings were perfect, the jollof was very flavorful. A little spicy for my pallet but I'm spice sensitive. The suya was my fav! Tender meat. Must order. We went to pick this up at Hajaras home. We parked near by and was greeted by her daughter who brought us all this delicious food. It was an authentic, unique, and special experience. My first time getting food here. The Egusi soup was really good and not very spicy. The Jollof rice was amazing not spicy but very flavorful. Unfortunately, the fufu was not good it tasted sour with a hint of vinegar. Overall the food was really good and would've been 5 stars if I could've enjoyed the fufu with the egusi. My family and I grew up in West Africa. We spent 18 years over seas and grew up eating west African food and we loved everything we ever had while living there. Since moving back to the US, we have had a hard time finding any restaurant that served the food that we grew up eating. Tonight, my dad and I were craving African food and I found Hajara's Kitchen on Yelp. I 100% knew we had to come here after seeing the pictures and menu. We ordered jollof rice with beef suja, plantains, egusi stew with pounded yams, puff puff, massa, bissap and ginger drink. Every item ordered was amazing and authentic. I felt like I was back in Africa eating the same dishes our African friends would cook for us. Not only was the food good, but the owner and other staff were incredibly sweet and all came out to speak with us and explained all the different dipping sauces and spoke with us about living in Africa!
