My son has only be coming for about a month at 6 years old. We tried when he was about 3 or 4 at their old location and he was not ready to focus. The training area is huge and the kids all have plenty of room to practice. This place is a little bit of a drive for us even though we have a handful of martial arts studios closer to us, we don't mind the drive since the teachers are so great. Mr. Jason, Mr. Brandon and Mrs. Noelle are so patient and you can tell they all love their "jobs". They make it look effortless on how well they get all the kids to interact, listen and respond. The class sizes are managed by belt sizes and there are always enough teachers that every kid gets attention. They just had their 10 year anniversary even though we have only been coming a month we feel like part of the family already and plan on staying for as long as our son gets a black belt ;) Also, I really love how this place is also month to month pay structure. We come 2x a week. I recommend having your kids do a 2 week trial. They wont regret it!! No pressure to sign up, the kids all look so eager to be there and you can see how many people were at their 10yr anniversary not to mention all that couldn't make it. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is unique from almost all other martial arts in that you don't need to strike or kick someone else to protect yourself. For me that means no picking up your kid in the middle of the day from the Principal's office just because he or she had to defend themselves. Also because Jiu Jitsu deals with leverage, it is an ideal martial art for a smaller child to learn how to defend themselves against larger opponents. Beyond this very basic description of why I like Jiu-jitsu for my child, I have to mention that Prof. Scott Singer is an amazing instructor. It's great to see him working with the kids. He has a patient demeanor and you can tell that he really cares. I highly recommend Chatsworth Street Sports.
