Hard to decide how to rate this place because I have never been to one like it before. Imagine you are on a backpacking trip and looking for a place to stop for the night. All of a sudden you come into a clearing with a few tables and chairs, a unique pizza oven under a roof and a small building. Food is served on paper plates with wooden utensils. We were visiting my daughter who is very familiar with this place and she arranged for us to have a thin crust, 8 slice pizza and a salad to share with 4 of us. Both were very good and just the right for the amount of food for our situation. Do not expect anything fancy. This is a picnic in the woods complete with bugs and rain if the weather turns bad. The food and the service will be good and often there is entertainment. The environment will either seem charming or be much too rustic for some. We enjoyed the surroundings and the friendly people. read more

Very unique spot with an amazing location, good music & delicious food. A pizza oven in the woods?! Come on now.. My husband & I hiked here from the Binnewater Kiln parking lot in Rosendale. I think is was about 2.5 miles each way. We enjoyed lemonade, curry pizza and a freshly made salad. There was an acoustic guitar player preforming and a variety of people stopping buy either on horseback, bike or on foot. I really enjoyed this place and look forward to going back! read more

Really loved the sweet potato GF pizza here. My husband enjoyed traditional marinara pizza and lemonada in the woods. This area was a sanctuary and still is with very open accepting musicians and artists who frequent there. We hiked around the area with our cousin and dog. I highly recommend trying it out. We missed the music on Sunday but I suggest going for that if you if can. read more

Been going there for years, music is hit or miss. Ordered a pizza and about 45 minutes into waiting for it to be ready with tons of mosquito bites, the host, Holly walks around with a donation basket for the artists and insisted I donate $10 pp for myself and 2 daughters. What a find on the rail trail. Where can you get a smile in the middle of the woods waiting to serve you some sustenance. Rosemary lemonade- subtle and refreshing. Egg on a pizza- who knew, thanks for your creativity. Climbers cookies, cacao balls amazing. Only thing I was not too happy with was the coffee, could have been stronger. Keep supporting this seasonal business. Love that the counter also has several different kinds of natural bug spray. Definitely shows the thoughtfulness of the business. This was one of the most unique experiences I've had. Living in NYC with the constant noise and millions of people, this place brought me down back to earth. I found it on Yelp while I was traveling up to the Catskills with my 1.5 yr old and my mom. It was WAY off road and it just rained so it was really muddy but well worth it. At first, we were a bit scared because we weren't sure what to expect but there were about 20 other people there, some were camping some were from the town, and there was a Hungarian singer, yodeling away on her guitar. Super cool/eerie! The pizza was good and loaded, while the pea soup could've used some salt. Overall, a recommended experience to see a different and free way of life! read more

A review in one word....MAGICAL. My boyfriend and I went on a bike ride today and came across the most adorable cafe in the middle of the woods. We were so surprised, but even more excited when we saw the menu. I ordered a bunch of things and everything was excellent. My boyfriend ordered the pizza and he said it was the best pizza he's ever had. The brick oven is amazing. The owners Brian and Tara were so personable and friendly. Tara explained how the cafe came about. What a great and interesting story. Please do yourself a favor and visit this cafe. We will be back as this will fast become a favorite of ours. Actual wood fired oven in the middle of the woods + Spectacular and tasty pizza is an awesome find! The pizza Beats any hipster spot in BK or overhyped Manhattan eatery. The people running the place- Kara and Simon - are super nice, as well as the localsZ We also had great coffee. Definitely give this place a try if you are in the area. These small business owners are worthy of your support...and the pizza was damn good - for reals. What a great venue. Magical dining in the woods. Delicious pizza. Great music. One of the best spots in the Hudson Valley.

The pizza and the employees the are very good and friendly; yes a pizza can be unfriendly! you every eat a pizza, slice or pie and feel like " oh boy I feel stuffed and tired to..." Dose not seem to be that way for me when I eat there, well not that tired part. Not really stuffed either. More like the of a car refueled and ready to ride. This is one way to enjoy taking my bike rides from New Paltz to Kingston. Its a great way to get the exercise I need. its a great stop for every bike rider, I think. read more

Unique is the word. Kind of a magical place in the woods. Hippie gourmet. Been twice now. There's the cute shack where you place your order, and a separate outdoor brick oven where yummy pizzas and such are baked. Super fresh salads. Picnic style seating. Lovely rustic place. I enjoyed Greek Night, the live, uber talented band playing Greek and other ethnic tunes that we danced a little to. My only whine was that everything was already sweetened with sugar and it would have been nice if they hadn't added anything and they had Stevia as a choice since I don't use sugar. I really wanted to taste the rosewater lemonade but it already had sugar. The man there was very nice and accommodating though and I had decaf with coconut milk and some ice cubes but it was just lukewarm and I didn't have the heart to tell him it needed more ice. I was looking for a place with vegan options before driving back to Brooklyn after visiting the Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. We found the cafe on Happy Cow and called to make sure they had vegan options. They're located about 15 minutes from Main Street in New Paltz and we decided to give it a try. My GPS led me into the forest and I had no idea what to expect. Lo and behold, when my daughter and I got out of the car we found a small truck and a pizza oven in the middle of nowhere! As other posters said, it's truly MAGICAL. We were able to order custom vegan pizzas, which Emmett prepared in the pizza oven. Our salad was huge and stunning, with edible flowers. I was even able to have my pizza made with a gluten-free crust. We enjoyed eating in the great outdoors and wish we had more time to spend in the woods. I can't wait to return when they re-open next season. Finding this cafe was the perfect end to my day upstate. Nothing in Brooklyn compares. read more

The Rail Trail café is one of those places that are so dreamy the memory stays with you for a long time. Tucked away in the woods, right off the rail trail between New Paltz and Rosendale, it's like a magical hipster hobbit hangout. The owners are down to earth and kind and everyone there seems to be friends. Kids play around in the woods, and everyone can enjoy delicious vegetarian pizzas, unusual popsicles and kale lemonade.
