We came here for breakfast this morning. Camp Kingston is nestled within the town and you have a wave of the regular and out of towners. I had a veggies burrito with the green salsa and sour cream. My food was fresh, really hot from after it was done being pressed. Both sauces worked with my veggies burrito. Cardamom Chai Tea latte was okay too. My colleague and I were looking for a place to do some work after wrapping up a meeting. I stumbled across Camp Kingston. We arrived at around 11:30 and there was a handful of people in the main room that they call the mess hall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered a chai latte and a cinnamon roll. My coworker got the mocha hot coffee with a chocolate croissant. The waitress was very helpful and polite. My chai was delicious savory and the cinnamon roll was also really tasty. Unfortunately, they weren't able to warm it for me before enjoying it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After I went to the restroom, I noticed that there were two other rooms where guests can eat, work, or have meetings with one another at the restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Very nice sized establishment. This is definitely great place to gather with coworkers or friends. That just brought me back to middle school! And the flavor was quite nice with the dill, mint, and peppered relish. Rolled through Kingston and stopped to charge our EV and our friend recommended we stop by and try the banh mi, which did not disappoint. The bread especially was delicious! The front has a full bar with a grab and go beverage cooler and a full service coffee bar with Balthazar pastries behind the case.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got an iced latte, a pecan sticky bun, and an prosciutto and pesto sandwich. Latte was solid enough and the pastry crispy with caramelized sugar. The sandwich came out on a Bread Alone baguette which had a crusty shell ther gave way to an airy interior. The fillings were light but high quality and tasty. With a strong cured meat and cheese, you don't need a lot. Prices are what you would expect in the new post-covid Kingston. What a wonderful little find. I had a small vacation in Kingston and this spot quickly became my favorite coffee spot over the days. Delicious cold brew, lattes, and chai. Camp Kingston has the 5 stars it deserves on Google, but we gotta correct this 3-star crap on Yelp because that ain't right! Listen, Dr. Cooks-a-Lot M. (who is too lazy by their own admission to cook but has plenty of energy to write yelp reviews). I have lived in this neighborhood for over a decade, and seeing this building finally get used, and have a fabulous small local business take the gamble of opening up shop there, is the best thing that's happened around here in a long time. The space is beautifully done, the back rooms with the arcade games and pool table are cool as hell, and the food and coffee are good and served up by the friendliest staff. They also have the most adorable bathroom, which is neither here nor there. I expect the food experience in particular to only improve and expand as they continue to find their footing and build relationships with local vendors. As an aside, Camp Kingston is LGBTQ+ owned and operated, and feels warm and welcoming to all (even total sticks in the mud like the good doctor Cooks-a-lot M.). The idea that this business is somehow not "local" and doesn't depend on the patronage of their customers is...patently ridiculous? What the hell are you talking about? It's not a Starbucks, dude. What about their model "doesn't work"? Seems like it's working just fine, given that the place is never empty. If you want Stewarts or QuickChek prices, go there. But if you want good food, good coffee, good vibes, and a nice place to hang out for a while, Camp Kingston is an immediate Kingston classic! Glad I got that off my chest. Go there for your zoom meetings or bring your friends visiting from Brooklyn who want to feel like they are right back at home. Meanwhile support your other local places that depend on your dollar for their livelihood and let these places wonder why their model doesn't work in upstate NY.
