    Picked this up for $40

We found this shop on Yelp looking for model railroad repair and supplies. Wow, how about spending an hour or so dismantling and assembling a 40 year old G Scale Engine then charge $0? That happened yesterday! I felt incumbency to buy odds and ends to complement our railway. This place is O G with stuff for modeling stored sky high. I will be back 5 star Rating, this place is back in time some how, what a Treasure!!

Tons of the Right Stuff! No junk. Just the cream of the crop!

Yep, it's a small shop, but yet, for a scale model railroad nut like myself, I found this to be the best-equipped model railroad-oriented hobby shop per square inch in the LA basin so far. Density*Quality Products = Wow. I've been to most all of the other shops around here, and while each have their own personality and positive attributes, I enjoyed this place the most. Why? read on.. Just good stuff. NO junk. All the best manufacturers (Genesis, Intermountain, BLMA, Tangent Scale Models, Walthers, Peco, etc), all the best tools and even hard-to-find ProColor paints are here. No cheapie junk brands, no model airplanes, no R/C nor arts nor crafts nor tinplate trains like Lionel to screw things up. Everything was impeccably organized and the entire shop was clean and bright as a whistle too. No dustballs here.. Here's a pic of part of their shop: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/railmaster-hobbies-bellflower?userid=JxPhDjcfEvhJ7Th7iSublQ#AWe-BYYHmQ5-NLFN5qTwvA What was important to me was that they had the latest freight car and locomotive releases from all the major manufacturers right there on the shelves - discounted, and they seemed to have pretty decent turnover in stock. A good sign of a healthy hobby store, IMHO. This shop is also *the place* to get your Railmaster speakers (no surprise), and learn the dark art of DCC and sound for your model steam and diesel locomotives. Once you get here, be sure to check in here with your Yelp mobile phone app, and get an additional discount on top of the already discounted prices too. Deal! Railmaster Hobbies is located in a small rather unique mini-mall/set of nicely restored storefronts just off the street. On the facade of the building, you will find some pretty charming and highly detailed mosaics. One of these depicts the old Bellflower SP train station, and another of the transit (trolleys/buses) that ran back here in the 1950s. What's curious about the building is that the main facade is actually perpendicular to the curb, so the building faces "sideways" to the street. As for getting here, it wasn't hard to get to. Just exit Bellflower Blvd off the 91, not far from the 91/605 interchange, and drive a couple of blocks past that shop with the giant Bagel on Bellflower Blvd. Hang a right on Walnut, and voila!

    We love this place!

Bad service and poor communication…read more I've been trying to catalogue my MTG collection lately. I drove 40 min to get to this shop because they have a machine that scans your cards. I paid the shop to rent the machine and waited for 2 hours. Then the staff told me "We made a mistake setting this up. We can't give you the scanned info, but leave your cards behind and your email address, and we can send them over. You'll just need to scan this thing we send you." I was uncomfortable leaving my cards behind because they're important to me. But I didn't want to walk away empty-handed. So I decided to trust them and I left my cards behind. I didn't hear anything for 4 days. I had to call them and they said "Oh the employee you were talking to got sick. If you want to pick up your cards you can do that though." I asked "How about scanning my cards?" and they said "We'll message the sick employee and call you back to let you know what he says". I waited 3 more days and they didn't contact me at all. I realized they weren't going to reach out to me to resolve the issue, so I had to drive down to the store to demand my cards back. I don't know who the person running the back of the shop is. Maybe the manager. Maybe the owner. All I knew is that they had context on the whole situation and knew that I had returned to get my cards. They didn't bother to come over to talk to me. They didn't even give me eye contact. They didn't make even a single attempt at improving the situation. Not even an offer for store credit. Not even a sorry. They just shrugged and yelled across the room "machine's broken". Then they went back to puttering around and left another employee to deal with me. This other employee had no context on the situation. All she could do was hand me a cash refund and give me a confused "Sorry...?" I was treated like I was an annoyance. Someone who'd go away eventually if you ignored them. Not a respected customer who just wanted to do business. I'm not mad that the machine was allegedly broken. I'm only slightly mad that the employees aren't trained on how to use the machine. I'm frustrated that I paid for a service and they didn't bother seeing the job through to the end. They didn't communicate when they decided to give up. I trusted them with my personal card collection and they betrayed that trust. I don't even know if I have all my cards back, but I'll never know. Save yourself the stress.

I was interested in a gengar full art ex that had come out in a recent set and two people behind the counter were giving two drastically different prices. one would say the market price and the other would double the price of the card. i think that is super dishonest business especially when people are already in the store looking to spend some money. doubling the prices on people they think wouldnt question it is such a scummy way to make their profits. i say this because i noticed them doing it to a couple who had stated they were just getting into the hobby and were looking at the same gengar single i had passed on when the told me 16 dollars and told that couple it was 32. i believe the couple bought the card in the end and i wasnt able to tell them anything before they had left the building. terrible business practice if you are going here beware of prices and cross check on the prices yourself. there are several shops in the area and honestly you can pass on this one especially if you want a store that doesn't smell like body odor.
