I am not a train enthusiast; that said, I am so appreciative of Richard who works here. Stopped by guessing that they probably didn't carry Thomas the Tank Engine toys but hoping they could point me in the right direction to find a screwdriver that opens the battery compartment of an old engine. Richard immediately proceeded to start tinkering with it, noting that these screws were designed to be tamper proof so it wasn't likely easy to find the right screwdriver but he was able to open the compartment and even cleaned the old corrosion out so my kid can now play with it safely. All at no charge. My son will be thrilled and if he keeps going down the trains' path, I'm sure we will be back. read more

I purchased a new locomotive from RailMaster. I had a couple of questions about the locomotive and emailed my questions to Jeff Smith. He was quick to reply and answered all of my questions. I am very impressed with the knowledge and expertise RailMaster provides. I live about 75 mile away from the store, so have not actually been in the store. Very nice model train shop, lots of selection for a smaller store. The staff are pretty knowledgeable and can be quite helpful at times. There are lots of older items in stock, one never knows what will show up next. I've found several older and out of production model train car kits on that table in back. It is always nice to find those less common items that are perfect for whatever one is planning. Lots of current production model trains and even a fair amount of older brass engines in HO Scale; this inventory is changing all the time so keep an eye out for what you need. You can find N Scale here as well, not to mention supplies like paints, glues, tools and couplers. They also have a lot of DCC sound chips too, plus a line of nice sounding speakers for your installations. Give them a shot next time you need to find something for the latest project; you might just be surprised. read more

The staff member John or at least that's what he claims to be always jumps into your conversation whenever you're speaking with the owner Jeff. John is rude whenever you speak with him. The selection is small and overpriced for used items that sell way cheaper at other stores and online. The store itself is very small so moving around is a bit difficult at times. Your truly better off shopping at other hobby stores like Arnies who provides not only a better selection but better customer service and prices as well. Definitely will NOT be coming back here. read more

As an engineering student at a Long Beach high school, my group and I are tasked with creating a solution to applying small-scale decals to scale models. I just had a Lionel Hudson cab 785 repaired here. Had won it at a great price on cabinfever auctions. I proceeded to clean everything and put red and tacky grease on all gears. The motor was making strange noise as if it was trying hard to make the train move. I took it to Railmaster to have the electric motor sorted and gone through. It runs perfectly now. It only took them a day or two to repair and the cost was reasonable. I do love everything about this shop, the interior even the smell it just takes me back to a time as a youth, shopping for trains with my father. There is a great selection of new HO here as well. They are capable of working on o scale too. I will return and buy my Blunami here to work my older non MTH engines. They do installs as well. read more

We found this shop on Yelp looking for model railroad repair and supplies. Wow, how about spending an hour or so dismantling and assembling a 40 year old G Scale Engine then charge $0? That happened yesterday! I felt incumbency to buy odds and ends to complement our railway. This place is O G with stuff for modeling stored sky high. Yep, it's a small shop, but yet, for a scale model railroad nut like myself, I found this to be the best-equipped model railroad-oriented hobby shop per square inch in the LA basin so far. Density*Quality Products = Wow. I've been to most all of the other shops around here, and while each have their own personality and positive attributes, I enjoyed this place the most. Why? read on.. Just good stuff. NO junk. All the best manufacturers (Genesis, Intermountain, BLMA, Tangent Scale Models, Walthers, Peco, etc), all the best tools and even hard-to-find ProColor paints are here. No cheapie junk brands, no model airplanes, no R/C nor arts nor crafts nor tinplate trains like Lionel to screw things up. Everything was impeccably organized and the entire shop was clean and bright as a whistle too. No dustballs here.. Railmaster Hobbies is located in a small rather unique mini-mall/set of nicely restored storefronts just off the street. On the facade of the building, you will find some pretty charming and highly detailed mosaics. One of these depicts the old Bellflower SP train station, and another of the transit (trolleys/buses) that ran back here in the 1950s. What's curious about the building is that the main facade is actually perpendicular to the curb, so the building faces "sideways" to the street. As for getting here, it wasn't hard to get to. Just exit Bellflower Blvd off the 91, not far from the 91/605 interchange, and drive a couple of blocks past that shop with the giant Bagel on Bellflower Blvd. Hang a right on Walnut, and voila! read more

First of all update your website, it's very misleading.I wanted to build a train set. My friend gave me an already build one so I wanted to make my own. I come by this morning and knock on the door and the guy does not wanna have anything to do with me. not interested in answering my questions not interested in helping me regarding building a train . Completely rude service. I will be spending lots of money someplace else. Too bad because I live right around the corner. I will not be taking my grandson here. I understand the situation in this world now, but this guy could've been a lot more nicer a lot more understanding instead of being so rude and a pompous jerk. I went here looking for a different experience than Arnies trains in Westminster. Guess I still miss the feel of Milepost 39, where an old school modeler like me seemed welcome and was well-served. Selection was pretty good and I was greeted by the owner when I entered. But, in mid sentence, I was interrupted by one of the apparently regular customers who were in a jovial and loud conversation, and I immediately felt excluded. Too bad because the owner seems like a nice guy and the other customers were polite. I'm no wall flower but I just didn't feel too welcomed into the coterie. There is not a wealth of N scale, but it is adequate. Focus seems to be HO, which is fine with me. They do seem to have a good selection of electronics and locos. Not as much in rolling stock, structures, etc., but they have a serviceable selection of everything, which is really remarkable given the small footprint. There is what looks like a test track running along the wall behind the counter, which supports my observation they are good on electronics. I'll probably be back but not experiencing the old time hobby shop vibe has me a little discouraged. Don't let my personal idiosyncrasies discourage you because Railmaster will probably have what you need! read more

It's alright. Guy working there seemed more occupied with what ever he was doing on the computer. Alot of used items. Prices moderate. Alot of older 2000s run of athearn with sun damaged boxes. Good selection of glue. Alot of the brass is marked over what's on the market. Seems to match brasstrains.com the decoders seemed more than what they go for online. Big store, it was alright. Excellent service and their speakers are top notch. The DSM8 is my go to speaker for installs in most Athearn, Atlas, Kato, and Walthers hood units. The DS28RN-8 is a great step up from the less round speakers installed by Athearn in units such as the SD70Ace. The store has a large selection of decoders and hard to find products like Trakworks passenger car window blinds. A great welcoming environment. Brought two engines in here that needed some cleaning. I do know much about trains. Everyone was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to help. They cleaned one of my engines for free, suggested some great track cleaner, and got my second engine up and running for a very reasonable price and in a very short amount of time. I was extremely disappointed in this shop since after reading all of the 5 star reviews I was excited to take my 5 year old son here since it is the only shop in the area. However we entered today around 1:30pm on a Saturday and there were only 2 other individuals in the shop. We were never welcomed and the only individual there was talking to a group of guys about stories of his grandkids. I wanted to see if they had something I could get my son but from what it appeared they had an extremely limited selection in the shop. The store owner made eye contact on various occasions and just kept on talking about his grandkids. This hobby needs a younger generation to continue it on, and by ignoring your future generation of customers, it doesn't seem like this shop will be going in the right direction. Perhaps if we were over 60 we would have experience better customer service. read more

Finally a place where they no how to treat customers . Jeff ,Dave, Isaiah and Leticia are class act people, very knowledgeable about trains . It's so worth the drive to go there. Unlike Arnies in Westminster were the meaning of how to treat customer someone how got lost. I visited this shop because my 3 year old son loooves trains and was looking to invest in a train set that would wrap around is room. The employees never acknowledged us and actually never said anything to us other than "please don't touch that". Felt as if because of our appearance, being young parents with a small child, we were being judged in a way that to them said we were not going to buy anything. Side note: we planned to spend about $300 on a set for my son. Well sorry for them we too our business somewhere else: never judge ANYONES capabilities! read more
