The other day, my aide asked if I wanted something from Jess's donuts. I politely declined and told her I prefer Rainbow Donuts. I go to Rainbow at least twice or three times a week. I am a little miffed they now make the jalapeno and cream cheese croissant with ham instead of just jalapenos and cream cheese. Boo! Apparently, this town loves their ham. The family who runs this spot is nice and accommodating--especially with their regulars. The prices have gone up and the place looks the same. read more

We visited just before 7am on a Tuesday. I'd not been here in years. AMBIANCE: The place could use some in depth TLC. Two women behind counter had dry, uninviting, un-cordial, uptight, no greeting, no hint of a smile, hate life, demeanors. Fly in the display case. FOOD: Many appealing selections. Donuts were great. Fresh, soft and everything you'd expect them to be SERVICE: One of two women attended to the fly as we alerted her to it. The other woman looked completely void of giving a fraction of a d*mn about the fly, or any living entity at that entire address. Palpable and definitely off putting. Summation: Donuts are great. Employee attitudes (service) definitely need an upgrade. read more

Rainbow Donuts makes good donuts. They don't knock it out of the park like a bakery we shall not name does. But I can promise if you take a box to work no one will throw rocks at you and the box will get emptied. If you take a box home and your kids throw rocks, they should be grounded with no donuts for 6 months and that will leave more for you. read more

Today i went in with my sister and ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches, 3 donuts, a juice and an iced coffee. The owner of the shop served us and prepared our sandwiches. We payed $21.95. As im driving off and eating my sandwich I notice this HUGE fly inside my egg. Immediately I drove back to the shop and my sister went in with all the things we purchased. She told her we were grossed out and we just didn't want any of the food anymore and that we needed our money back. My sister comes back out to the car with only $5.25. I asked her where the rest of the money was and she said the lady would not give her the money back for the rest of the food we returned. So I went in and I told her that I needed all the money back. She refused and said she was closing the store. I asked her multiple times until I finally said I was going to call the health department. As soon as I said that she went behind the counter and refunded every penny. Mind you, me or my sister didn't get loud or aggressive at any point. The part that bothers me the most is that if something like this happens, just return the money back to the customer. ESPECIALLY if were bringing back all the food. Its not like we didn't have a legitimate reason to want our money back. read more

Yum! Haven't had a bad experience yet at this quaint "mom & pop" donut shop. My SO actually introduced me to this gem on his way to drop me off at work one cold morning. My faaaavorite donut shop treat is the ham & cheese croissant. Have them warm it up for you, sometimes double for extra meltiness, and eat it immediately. They have so many yummy choices! Many are breakfast, but I don't think it's ever not a good time of day for a donut. The employees are pleasant and greet everyone as they walk in. 10/10 will return and eat jelly donuts again! read more

Rainbow donuts is a cute little mom and pop donut shop which carries so much more than just donuts. Mom and I stopped in last week and had trouble deciding what to get. Bagels? Donuts? Croissants? Breakfast burritos in ham, bacon, or sausage? Maybe the best of all worlds - a breakfast sandwich made with eggs and bacon on a maple frosted donut bar? Mom finally settled on a cream cheese croissant that was all at the same time both creamy and flaky - four stars. I ordered an old fashioned donut, usually one of my favorites. It wasn't bad, just nothing special - three stars. The interior of the store is clean and attractively decorated with five bright yellow booths with contoured plastic seats and two tall cafe tables with padded stools. It took me forever to get around to reviewing this little donut shop because it was always closed whenever I drove by. I'm not sure if the problem was their operating hours or my crazy schedule. I don't usually get down to this part of town, but if I'm here when they're open I'd certainly stop in to try that glorious breakfast sandwich donut combination that has it's large glossy picture displayed prominently on the wall. read more

Before Sugar Twist Bakery opened for business, Rainbow Donuts was my favorite spot to eat donuts in Bakersfield. I would drive 30 minutes to their place on the corner of Brundage Lane and Chester Ave. to eat their extremely delicious donuts!! Their Custard filled Chocolate donut and their apple fritters are my favorite items. All the other donuts are yummy as well. They use the highest quality ingredients in their goodies, and you can really taste the difference! So much better than other mom and pop shops. Staff is friendly, and they do a great job of keeping the dining area clean. I may not come here too often anymore, but anytime I am in the neighborhood I will continue to drop by. Just have to remember to come here early. They tend to close early because once they sell out of their donuts it is time to call it a day! read more

These donuts are simply the best I've had so far in my 25 years of life. They come in different kinds to suit different tastes, and my personal favorite are the dense, cake-like donuts (not the light and airy kind like Krispy Kreme, although they do sell glazed ones like that here and they're great too). The frosting is really flavorful as well. My family has been coming here since I was a child and we are always very satisfied with the continued great quality. And to top it all off, they're inexpensive and make a wonderful treat for any office meeting! read more

I stop about once a week to grab some coffee and a donut. Donuts are good, as well as the other items I've tried, but I mainly go there because the convince of the drive thru. I ordered my usual, and then asked for French vanilla creamer. After getting my order the sweet girl taking my order informed me that the owners started charging .50 per flavored creamer. My mouth dropped! So your telling me it's going to cost more for the creamer than the actual coffee??? I declined the coffee. Being a restaurant manager I understand the cost of flavored creamer, but raise your coffee prices to off set the price of the flavored creamers- don't charge .50, and if you do feel the need to charge, charge .10, something reasonable! I am not a resident of Bakersfield, but work in town every week. I recently had to work a Saturday and wanted a special treat to share with my staff. I YELPED donut shops in the Bakersfield area, and found Rainbow! It had really good reviews, was close to my hotel and seemed easy to access. I was pleasantly surprised by the young man at the counter. He was helpful, and friendly...at it was barely 8 a.m! The donuts were really tasty, too! My staff seemed really appreciative...and I have resolved to make Rainbow a more frequent stop when I am in the area! read more
