The owner is extremely nice and even stopped by the room with restaurant recommendations. The location is quiet but within easy walking distance of local businesses. The Voll does not seem to take reservations or contract with any of the mass market hotel apps. Nonetheless, do yourself a favor next time you are in Ukiah... skip the chains and keep your eyes peeled for the Voll Motel "Vacancy" sign. You won't be sorry for the experience and value at this family-run business!

Stay five minutes longer and you realize... the building does. The operation, not so much. All I wanted was a cappuccino and a ham-and-cheese croissant. Simple, right? The menu promised a fluffy croissant. What I received was a flattened, tough, slightly existential crisis disguised as a sandwich. The ham had that "I've seen things" look--dry edges, fused together like it had survived a small apocalypse. I asked the obvious question: "Was this microwaved?" Answer: yes. Ah. The great croissant killer strikes again. So I politely asked for a refund on the sandwich (keep the cappuccino--it was actually excellent, shoutout to the guy with the tats who clearly cares). This is where things got... theatrical. One manager couldn't help. Another manager couldn't help. Helpful cappuccino guy tried--bless him--still couldn't help. At this point I felt like I was asking them to relocate the entire hotel, not refund a microwaved croissant. Then the final boss appeared. No greeting, no smile--just an expression that suggested I had personally inconvenienced her existence. I explained the situation and even did the math for them (because apparently we're doing group projects now). The cash drawer was open, I gave them the exact refund amount but still, they didn't want to value my time, they would rather inconvenience me. Still no resolution. After 30 minutes--and texts from my crew wondering if I'd been kidnapped--I gave up and decided to reverse the entire charge through my bank. Congratulations: instead of keeping the money for a genuinely great cappuccino, the entire transaction is now gone. The most impressive part? Not one person--managers included--could tell me the tax rate. I had to reverse-engineer it myself like I was cracking a code. That's... concerning when you're handling people's money. Final takeaway: Gorgeous facility. Excellent cappuccino. Microwaved croissants and a customer service maze that rivals a casino floor. Would I come back? Maybe--for the coffee. Would I order food? Only if I see it born fresh, like a croissant should be.

My 80 something parents-in-law had to stay in one of the small adjoining Cabins because the quantity of stairs in the main house just wasn't doable for them. The real gem is the fact that you're right on the lake. Yes it's got algae but look past the first 5 feet of shore and you'll see the true wow factor. There is a very large deck off the second story and .... WOW! The views were breathtaking. The outside "yard" is massive. Oh the parties that could be and probably have happened here were probably epic. And a tiki bar? YES! I loved that there is a Chavez Market right across the street so running out of or forgetting anything isn't a problem. It's a pretty nice market (clean, fresh produce and SAFE). We had a wonderful reunion here and even though there were a few restroom issues and the beds are like sleeping on clouds, and the cabins smelled like smokers stayed there, it's still a great place for a large group.
