And, on a perfect spring evening on the deck with the sky fading to black over the distant hills and the temperature slowly cooling, it was magical. Started with olives, almonds and a carafe of local rose, which was delicious. This was followed by some outstanding bread with herb butter and caperberries, and local, Mendocino cured king salmon, which was a celiac special! It was delicious and herbaceous with avocado, caperberries and dill. This was followed by the salad greens with asparagus and bresaola. The bresaola was a great compliment to the greens and the asparagus was particularly unique - fresh, crisp, fresh and while not quite asparagus-y they were so good, a bit sweet. They were from Zuckerman Farms in the Sacramento valley. Next was a bowl of noodles and asparagus, ramps, very fresh fava beans (not firm or mushy!) and parsley, or the same over polenta instead of Italian pasta noodles for the gluten-free. It was simple, but fresh and rich and luxurious. Three for three at this point. The end point was duck confit with oranges and kumquats over wild rice with some greens. The duck was perfectly cooked, although a tad too salty. Nonetheless, we cleaned the plates. And, who would have paired rosemary with oranges (?) but it worked. The meal was finished with vanilla ice cream over meringue, topped with lemon curd, and fresh strawberries and rhubarb, both of which were not only fresh but redolent of the flavors that they appear to have otherwise lost. The wine list is small but we greatly enjoyed both the pinot rose from Scribe and the pinot noir from Drew. I remain very frustrated by all of their fees and add on costs. Yet, I don't feel cheated or that it was all unreasonable in the end.

Every detail, from the freshly cut flowers inside the room to the garden and living room in the main house, is purposeful and elegant. I also should mention the food, which is excellent! The culture of the Anderson Valley gracefully comes through with every bite. In fact, the food alone is worth the trip. I have been to many Michelin-rated restaurants. While the meal might not be accompanied by the chef's life story, everything about the food, the dining atmosphere, and the local ingredients is every bit Michelin quality. A few other tidbits: Kid friendly, plenty of space to play in the backyard, but no games, no pool. The sister restaurant, Offspring at the Farrer Building, across the street has the same food, but also pizza and a few other kid friendly options. Two onsite EV charging stations. Concern Regarding Our Recent Experience…read more We have been staying at your lodge for many years, and for a long time it was a place we truly enjoyed. We always felt welcomed, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and the rooms were clean and well cared for. Unfortunately, over time, we have noticed a significant change in both the level of service and the way guests are treated. Tonight's experience was particularly upsetting. I was included on a reservation with friends and had planned to stay at the lodge with them. My plans changed, and I needed to return home, so I stopped by the room for only a few minutes to let my friends know. While I was sitting outside the room, management came to the door and informed me that I would need to pay an additional $60 simply for being there--even though I was already included on the reservation and was only there briefly before leaving. I found this extremely disappointing and difficult to understand. I wasn't an unregistered visitor attempting to stay overnight. I was a guest listed on the reservation whose plans had changed and who stopped by briefly before heading home. What bothers me most isn't simply the $60 charge. It's the way the situation was handled and the feeling that, after years of staying at your lodge and supporting your business, the warmth and hospitality we once experienced seem to be gone. We have many wonderful memories of staying here, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. I sincerely hope management will reconsider how situations like this are handled and remember that hospitality and the way longtime guests are treated matter just as much as policies and fees.

The property is well maintained and you can see that from the surroundings to the inside of the hotel room. The room was clean and roomy. Furnishings were also newer than most Hilton hotels I've stayed in recently. The bathroom was well stocked with clean, white towels and Dove bath products. The sheets smelled like how fresh linens are supposed to smell like. The pillows were comfy. I also took in the free breakfast one of the days. The continental breakfast was well stocked each time and prepared well. If in the area in the future, I would stay here again.

My girlfriend and I were looking for a little adventure on the Fourth of July weekend; she had a…read morewedding to play in Napa on Monday, so Sunday afternoon we looked around for a little place to have an adventure. After a little bit of poking around, it seemed Lakeport would be perfect (thanks to Christine G's review); neither of us had really been here before, and the Forbestown Inn was reasonably priced for a B&B on a holiday weekend ($120, about half what some of the Napa B&B's were charging!). We called up the Inn from the Bay Area and Pat let us know there was a room available; she asked of our arrival time so she could make sure the room was made up and cool by the time we were to arrive. When we showed up to this adorable site (after a nearly four hour drive) she greeted us and gave us some pointer on dinner, the WiFi password, and keys. We stayed in the Anna room. The house and rooms were classically appointed in the VIctorian style that seems to pervade most B&Bs, with frill and antique, though not overdone. The bed was a queen-size (which felt a touch on the small size) but the rooms were reasonably large and the bathrooms were pretty spacious (though down two steps, interestingly enough!). The overall setup was just gorgeous with a backyard to lounge in and very easy access to all of Lakeport's main attractions (we watched the "boat races" at the Speedway, NOTE: NOT ON WATER - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivLX2Hu9iqU). Breakfast was an omelette (in truth, more like a frittata) with portabello mushrooms and red peppers, with a good strong coffee. My girl and I were trying to cut down on carbs, so we asked for no bread, but the other couple at the breakfast table raved about the French toast. After the other couple left, we actually had the whole run of the place to ourselves and lounged by the pool.
