I'm attributing it to being on State St. and just riddled with college kids but the cashiers just did not know what they were doing and the toast was not toasted on one side. My first time here, and was just glad that the line wasn't out the door! Even though there was only one checkout open, she did an awesome job and the line moved fairly quickly. I ordered the box that included four tenders, special sauce, fries, coleslaw and garlic bread plus a drink. The chicken tenders are delicious A++++++. French fries were a bit soggy and not salted enough. I really didn't care for the coleslaw, it seemed sour to me. But the chicken made up for both of those items!! WOW! If you haven't given this place a try yet you should! Quick, fast, and friendly service. The chicken tenders were so fresh and perfectly battered. After we were done eating the manager came around and asked us how everything was and saw we hadn't eaten our coleslaw. Stopped at Cane's while driving through Madison at the request of my kids. This location is right on State street. Simple menu of tenders and fries in different sizes. I ordered the "Caniac" meal. 6 six tenders with crinkle fries, garlic bread and cole slaw. The tenders are prepared to order. They were hot and crispy. The fries were well seasoned, and the garlic bread was nicely browned and had good buttery garlic flavor. The coleslaw was average. I also received 2 cups of Cane sauce which complimented the tenders as well as the fries. I chose lemonade for my drink. They also had coke products. Nice size dining area. Gender neutral bathrooms. Alright, in the world of chicken in the fast food realm, this runs right in the middle. This place was raved by a true southerner who said I'd like this way better than zaxby's (another fast food fried chicken place) but it just doesn't compare. Popeyes might still be my go to of all time (that spicy chicken sandwich I tell ya.) The coleslaw is meh. Raising canes sauce reminds me of thousand island dressing. The fries are decent. The chicken comes out crispy and lighter tasting than most fried chicken which was a pleasant surprise. I'd say it was a bit drier. I'm still a Popeyes fan. I wouldn't go out of my way to get raising canes but if I was in the area it would suffice. Zaxby's toast still wins in my favor and their variety certainly surpasses raising canes. I'd still live off of cookout's sweet tea. Facility was 1 week old. Clean. Staff was pleasant. Prices are fair. I'd just say they lack variety. read more

I came to check out what all the fuss was about. Overall it was not bad. Fries and Texas toast were great. Chicken was a little bland IMO - the breading could have used more flavor or seasoning. The Canes sauce was pretty tasty but nothing spectacular. The chicken strips were also a bit smaller than I expected but the four piece was satisfyingly filling. I ordered inside and ate my food on the tables outside. The tables were dirty and I never really saw staff keeping them clean or wiping them down. I saw staff empty the garbage bins outside. I don't know why at that point they wouldn't also wipe down the dirty tables but oh well. Overall not a bad start and I'd probably return some day. Had a ling layover in Madison and walked around the University Area to look for a place to eat. I was in the mood for fried chicken and had to try this place out. First if all, it's cheap. So if you're a budget freak like me, this is your place. Chicken tenders were indeed tender. The bread that came with the combo was delightful and the fries is crispy enough for me to can't stop munching on. The special sauce they have is alright. It complimented the chicken and the fries but not as tasty as I expected it to be. The area is filled with students so you'll get the nostalgic feeling of being in the university. The sauce at raising canes is great tho, thats their only un-criticizable aspect. People complain about the limited sauce, or overall limited menu selection. Thats not my opinion, infact I agree with the idea of a limited menu, but to have such a limited menu they NEED to have better chicken. Also everytime I go to raising canes it takes a good while to be served, they claim speed is the reason for their limited menu but it usually takes at least 10 minutes to get served during normal hours. It's an overall 3 but deserves a worse grade imo so I'm giving it a 2, simply just considering it easily has the opportunity to be a great franchise but the administration is embarrassingly stupid. read more

Mediocre Chicken with a Side of Food Poisoning Background I got invited to the "VIP" soft opening of Raising Cane's on State Street. I detest the idea of more chains on State--but then I saw a picture of the chicken fingers hovering there, free and delicious, and I went anyway. First Impressions Good slaw (substituted for fries) and the complimentary toast was nice, similar to French toast without the syrup. The store's layout forms a large U, but with doors on only one side, I imagine the space will quickly feel congested once summer hits full swing and the place fills with tourists. The chicken fingers are good but nothing compared to Popeye's or even Wendy's. That might not matter, though, since both of those better options are miles away. Verdict If the chicken fingers are the stars of the Raising Cane's show (and judging from the limited menu, they are), they need to shine a bit brighter. In the end, tourists and the lack of competitors on State will probably keep this place afloat. The worst part, though, was the two solid days of food poisoning afterward. My guts ached like I've never felt before, and I had to use the bathroom dozens of times a day. For over 48 hours. Lesson learned. I'll never walk through their doors again! read more

Made a trip to check this place out. Being that it was on State Street, you will need to do meter parking or park in a parking structure to get to this place if you don't live on campus. Chicken fingers are high quality, Texas toast is tasty, fries are blah...nothing special. The sauce is supposedly what makes this above the rest. It's tangy...I thought it would have more of a gravy taste by the look of it. It's a good college restaurant, if I was still attending UW, I would eat here regularly. read more
