pretty good food, reasonably priced. nice place to sit. kinda dark away from the windows but chill, mostly enjoyed the sitting

Yummy food as always! The sandwiches at this location tend to be left dry, and empty at the end. Overall, a clean place. Located in the heart of downtown on State Street! The service is also pretty decent.

I was really in the mood for soup and salad. Like, REALLY in the mood for it. I searched around on Yelp, and my husband and I probably walked a couple miles checking out different places menus and vibes. I'm usually not this picky, I swear! But this particular day I wanted soup and salad and a casual vibe. Potbelly's it was! I had the Mediterranean Salad with a bowl of tomato soup, and my husband had an Italian sandwich with a cup of chili. He definitely won the food competition of who made the better order. My salad was fresh and the Potbelly vinaigrette was really good. But overall, the salad was just fine. His sandwich was really tasty and nicely toasted. I enjoyed my tomato soup, which was pretty basic. Again, his choice of chili was better! We ended up sharing. :) I liked the casual vibe and the cute painted tables. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. I'm not sure I would seek out Potbelly's again, but if I were in the area and in the mood for a meal that I could pretend was healthy, I would return.

Cool sandwich shop not too far from campus on state. I had the big roast beef and was pretty satisfied with the food quality. The bread was good, but didn't really stand out. I ordered it with hot peppers which were fairly spicy but what I was hoping for. A few main drawbacks about this place that keep it at three stars were the line, menu, and price. We came at lunch and there were only two employees so it took a while. The menu wasn't the longest, and the font was very small so it could be hard to read for some people. Lastly, the price wasn't too high but seemed a little expensive for a sandwich lunch. Honestly, I really enjoyed the food but the experience could have been better. Edit** Came back a second time and was thoroughly unimpressed. The place smelled, service was slow, I ordered a "big" and got a regular, and there was hardly any meat on the sandwich. Originally gave it three stars, but am lowering to two. Don't plan on coming back. I see why this chain is doing so poorly.

I've walked by this Potbelly location about a million times, and today I finally decided to try it out. I was hesitant because I've always been a Subway person, and I don't usually like my sub sandwiches toasted (Potbelly toasts all of their subs). Anyways, the restaurant itself was pretty nice and was unlike any other sub shop I've been in. It kind of reminded me of a coffee shop. Their menu is distributed on the walls in a couple different places, but I already knew what I wanted to get because I had looked at their menu online. I got an original chicken club sandwich with lettuce and tomato, a cup of mac and cheese, and a cup of chili. The service was quick but somewhat inattentive. When I was checking out the cashier barely made eye contact with me, and never gave me my receipt. Aside from that though, my experience was satisfactory. As for the food itself, I was pretty pleased. The sandwich was served nice and warm, and the cheese was fully melted. I think their was a good ratio of meat, cheese, and toppings, and the flavors all tasted very fresh. The bread was kind of thin and crumbly, definitely a lot different than the fluffy thick bread I'm used to at Subway, but it didn't bother me too much. The mac and cheese wasn't my favorite because the noodles were extremely soft, but the chili was really good and both were served hot. I think $9 is a bit expensive for a 6-7in sub, but they did seem to have quality ingredients so it is what it is. I didn't try any of their shakes today but I've heard they're pretty good so I'll probably be back to try those at some point!

This place is OK for a quick sandwich. I heard that Potbelly was a big deal here in the Midwest so I decided to give it a shot. It was OK, good service, decent sandwiches, but nothing to write home about. They have a nice patio that you can sit and enjoy your food on during the afternoon. A cute place to sit and chit chat with friends. I got a tuna flatbread sandwich and it was OK. It wasn't really good or bad. I was happy that they had a flatbread option to make it a bit healthier. But the tuna was very meh. I think I prefer other places more. I will however say that I like this place better than Subway. I also wanted to try the tomato soup and ordered it, and when I got home and opened it I realized it was actually potato and bacon soup. I was not happy but I didn't feel like walking all the way back to the place. It wasn't good at all. 3/5

The gallon jug of Potbelly hot peppers. It can be yours too for ~$20.

I didn't know what to expect as I didn't take the time to check it out. When we walked into the restaurant I reality is a fast food chain. This particular restaurant is in what use to be a Hardies. It had a cool decor and we were welcomed upon entry. As we were looking o er the order board the cashier asked us if this was our first time and replied yes. He explained the spice levels and what we could substitute for sides etc. We both ordered the #3 with cheesy fries and a drink. Our meal included a chicken slider that had coleslaw and a sauce. It was more of a sandwich than slider, and another large piece of chicken that was like a half of a breast that laid on top of a piece of white bread. Dill pickle slices, a side of sauce and the cheesy fries rounded out the meal. The sandwich was delicious with the combo of coleslaw and sauce. The larger piece of chicken was surprisingly very tender and moist. The French fries were ok. If I were to go back I would skip the cheese topping. We both jumped in the ice tea as they had unsweetened, sweet, raspberry and peach. We got the sweet tea and it was pretty weak. We head south every winter and usually if I get sweet tea I will mix a little unsweetened tea into it. This sweet tea was ok with the sweetness for me but it seemed really watered down. I'm not one for fast food but I would stop back here for a piece of chicken or take out a bucket. I'm not sure how they make their chicken but it had a dry rub over a light texture, thinking the chicken may be deep fried and then Tossed in the dry rub. Our rub was medium heat. It was borderline spicy enough but next time we may try the next step in the hot spice.

The place is enormous, or at least it feels that way. The ceiling stretches overhead, the floor goes on forever, and there's no hostess stand in sight. No one is waiting to greet you. Instead, you're left to figure out the system yourself. Fortunately, the ceiling signs seem to know where you're going. Everything about the place says Chicago hot dog emporium. It isn't fancy, and it certainly isn't trying to be. No linen napkins, no mysterious foam, no server appearing with a dramatic explanation of the appetizer. Just laminated menus, stainless steel, bright signs, yellow mustard, and the reassuring promise of a hot dog piled high with enough toppings to require a little structural engineering. At the register, the cashier looks up with the blank, mildly haunted expression of someone who has been stationed there to process transactions, not thoughts. You ask a question. They stare. Not rudely. Not helpfully. Just a long, silent look that suggests your question has been received but will not be processed at this time. Your better off just ordering your food and hoping for the best. They do serve a crispy fried chicken sandwich with a sauce so aggressively spicy it feels less like a condiment and more like a personal attack. The first bite is delicious. The second begins the paralysis of your taste buds. By the third, you're realizing that requesting the sauce on the side was a good move. In hindsight, I probably should have done my homework and ordered the hot dog--the thing this place is actually famous for. Instead, I saw "spicy chicken sandwich" and made the classic mistake of assuming I knew better than a restaurant built around one very specific food.
