Yikes. My daughter and I decided to stop because we were in Madison dropping my son off at the university. Neither of us had ever been to Shake shack. I placed my order online ahead of time. We parked and walked over and found a seat. My order was ready about three minutes later, I grabbed the order and we sat down to eat. Immediately, after we sat down to eat a family of three walked in with their dog. They ordered their food and decided to sit at the table right next to us. Dogs are not allowed in restaurants unless they are a service animal, and as you can see from the photos attached this is not a service animal. About 3 to 4 minutes later another couple walked in with their dog. once again dogs are not allowed in restaurants unless they are a service animal. Not only that, am I fearful of dogs, having been bit in the past. our food was another issue. My daughter is a selective eater so she got the grilled cheese. She literally ate three bites and threw the rest away. She said it was cold and just did not taste good. I ordered a chicken sandwich which was very fresh hot and made properly. We also ordered the spicy fries with ranch and they were lukewarm at best. My daughter also had a sprite which she said was the best part of her meal, sadly. Finally went to this location. I've heard lots of great things about Shake shack. There was quite a wait. We did come during the peak lunch hour on a Saturday. The staff was awesome super friendly and helpful. The size of the location is a bit small, people were circling like vultures trying to find a table. We were able to find a spot and enjoy our meal. The burgers were great. The buns in particular are super soft and tasty. One thing that was great about getting this fast food is that you could have beer or wine with your meal. So although I can't speak to the food, I can say that even during busy times it seems that everyone's orders are delivered quite quickly. Even today when we walked in and two of the three self-order kiosks were down (they really need to work on that) and we almost skipped out on our beloved shake because so many people were in line, we were able to order, pay, and leave with our shake within only a few minutes. I was truly impressed by the staff and the employee taking orders did not seem phased at all with the long line. Kudos to her, for her relaxing demeanor is what made us think it might be quick. Ordered a ShackBurger, fries, and new dreamsicle and tiramisu milkshakes for pickup. I grabbed the food and did a quick review to make sure I had everything and noticed the dreamsicle milkshake wasn't filled up completely which was disappointing. Most places it wouldn't bother me, but their shakes cost $6.50 each which I consider a premium price. If I spend $6.50 on a shake, I at least expect it to be full. I understand it is with frozen custard, but Kopp's in Milwaukee also makes shakes with frozen custard for about a dollar less and they serve you a full cup in bigger size. Ok how did they jump from a 2 star to 4 star 1. That shroom stack works. Officially called "Shack Stack." 2. Quality meat. 3. Toasted bun. 4. There's a check box for the various allergens but never noticed if it shows in the store on the menu board. 5. Basic hamburger 6. They finally stopped allowing guests to reach and get condiments. Gloves staff hands it over. This matters as mustard and ketchup are on the table. 7. Will return to try the beef dog & thinking the toasted bun will make it pop. What doesn't work: 1. No other cheese options. Just American cheese 2. The app doesn't allow you to remove cheese 3. The app doesn't take their gift card 4. Their shakes are made with custard which has egg. I know this will excite many but I'm not a custard human. 5. Condiment packages. I guess their ketchup is name brand but it's not one I'm familiar with. I want to see the dipping packages like CFA & other overpriced places have in stock. Overall, I must give a shout out or kudos to the manager for being open to the feedback and explaining how a few things are not working for this location because they are new. My only previous experience with SS was in Boston and just for a shake. So when they opened in Madison I knew I had to give them a try. We stopped in at noon on a Saturday and it was pretty busy - no surprise. Ordering was fast and safe. The inside was quickly filling up as people waited for their orders. They then announced it was too crowded and at Covid capacity and had us wait outside. Fortunately it was sunny & relatively warm... seems like they need a better system especially when the weather is bad. My nephew had raved about their chicken sandwich so we decided to order them - one plain and one hot. They also offer very hot and fire - I'm glad I went with hot because it was the right amount of spice without it being overpowering. We really like the bun - nice, fresh, and soft. We also got the crinkle fries, not usually my choice since they are usually limp and soggy. Theirs were pretty crispy and good. Next time I will try a shake & a burger. read more

Hurray! Shake Shack has finally arrived in Madison at Hilldale Mall. I recommend using their app in order to schedule your food pickup in advance. I scheduled an 11:30am pickup at around 8:30 am. Parking is a bit tight, so plan accordingly. Plus there is not a drive-through option. Since it was my first order pickup, I followed the texted directions to enter the restaurant and give my name at the counter. But instead, a helpful employee just inside the entrance told me to walk straight through into the outside seating area where an employee will bring out my order. I wonder if next time I could simply hang out near the outside patio and avoid walking through the restaurant all together My (picky) husband really enjoyed his cheeseburger. Hated the shake shack at Hildale Mall first time around. I think for good reason. Screwing up a burger, returning to request a resolution. Return home to discover the same raw meat in the replacement. So a couple weeks ago my wife and son are on a tear and can't survive the night without red meat, and ask me what or if I may like to order. First thought was absolute not gonna do it. Fool me once, fool me twice... you've likely heard the expression. But upon rethinking my options: making a trip myself, because neither of these familial loved ones will even consider, the possibility of getting dad/husband something such as Jimmy Johns which would require two additional minutes. JJs is literally 3 minutes from our house, where Shake Shack is 20 each way! If I hadn't already been busy doing something in the first place, I'd already be on top of things and in the kitchen preparing something for dinner. But I was busy doing something that likely was little more than hiding in the garage from being roped into sweeping dust bunnies from the furnace closest or worse. So I caved. I'll be damned, yessiree I'll probably find that my words often are as valid as the effort I might put into them when I stop to write something favorable or negative about someplace I loved or didn't. I found that this time around I was either really hungry or the burger I received this time around was simply a reason this chain burger factory can sustain amidst countless others selling the exact same thing! The burger was spot on. Bacon crisp as were the lettuce and tomato. The fries were so good I even recall eating the cold ones in the bag and perhaps even a couple I beat the dog to off the floor! I was so excited to know a Shake Shack started business in Madison. One visit reminded me that I loved the idea of it more than that actual place itself. The general quality at this branch needs to be improved to match the experience and expectations that exist at the hundred other Shake Shack locations. I showed up a few minutes after opening time to locked doors. A little disappointing, most places open their doors a couple minutes early. The store is just takeout at the moment, totally support that. Standard protective measures are taken. After ordering I waited about 10 minutes for my food, not bad given the burgers are made to order. Then came the observation of many inefficiencies. It seems the restaurant directs its workers by management - probably a good way to do so as long as management is paying attention. One register is ringing up a growing line that went from nothing to outside the door. No effort to open a second register. Following this odd lack of leadership, I watched three people check my order for accuracy. Why three? No clue. After three checks, the food sat in the bag to a counter inaccessible to patron for another employee to hand over. It sat there for five minutes and after some impatience I asked an employee to hand me my order. The order at least was accurate but expensive- $40 for two people. The burger was appropriately cooked but with zero flavor. The over texture of the burger was mush. The cheese sauce appears overly artificial. The fries cold and tasting like they were made an hour prior to presentation. Overall: inefficient, tardy, and flavorless. Way better burger places in Madison WI to attend! read more

Got a Shake Shack fan right here! The long awaited for Shake Shack is here in Madison and it's 300th one at that! I no longer have to drive to Milwaukee to satisfy my cravings which is amazing. The space is great with floor to ceiling windows for lots of light but ample space for outdoor seating either at Shake Shack or in the surrounding Hilldale area if you want more social distancing. You are preorder your order for pick via the app only currently (not on website). Use the code SHACKFAM for 20% off your first order. After you order they have a table with a staff member waiting for you to pick up (at your specified time). Very clean, simple process. You can also go in to order where they are 6ft apart marker stickers to stand by. Appreciate all the adherence to social distancing guidelines. Now onto the food, fast food time, but not fast food burger. The burger was juicy, lots of fresh veggies (get all the extras) and you have a side of ranch. I got the single shack with a lettuce wrap (no bun) and they successfully put enough lettuce around so that whenever I took a bite, it wasn't falling apart. Woot woot! I also ordered the pumpkin shake which has a nice flavor of pumpkin but definitely on the sweet side. I love the pumpkin seeds on top and was spooning those out with my straw afterwards. Lastly, I order the cheese fries with FIRE seasoning. The crinkle fries were good, this shape really grabs the cheese sauce well. The cheese sauce was so/so. They separate it for pickup which is nice but definitely solidified by my pick up time, leaving the ooey gooeyness ness for my imagination. The seasoning was hot as well, but not fire IMO (I have a high spice level). Dry seasoning can be a little all over the place sometimes too. Overall, will 100% be back. What can you say really.?.? The quality of ingredients is fine and the burgers taste good but really overpriced for what you get. A double burger lettuce wrap with bacon, a single smoke shack, one fry, two small drinks and a small shake were roughly 35 dollars and I should have taken a pic because my smoke shack burger could have been eaten in two bites. It felt that small. I'll save a little more and go to Culver's next time. One thing as far as customer service goes, when we got up to the counter it was as if the person waiting to take our order seemed put off and first thing he said was "you can use the kiosk". I am in line to avoid the kiosk. If I wanted to work here I would have put in an application. read more

I use to deliver for Uber eats, I always said I wanted to try it so tonight I ordered delivery. I did not even get to take a picture of the hamburger because it was devoured. Oh my goodness the burgers were great! Cooked to perfection, I seriously have no complaints about the food. My fries were cold but that was my fault I know not to order fries when I choose delivery. I can't wait to order again but I will have to order it in the store. Here is my biggest complaint, I placed my order for delivery but I wanted to make sure that ketchup was in the bag. I also wanted to see if they could put a cup of ice in my bag. I called the number that it says to call it went to a managers office voicemail. I called the number again, I hit 0 to see if it would go to the restaurant. It went to the managers voicemail, if you have the phone programmed to go to the managers voicemail, the message needs to state that there is no way to contact a live person!!!!!! What happens if I placed an order, realized that the order had something I was allergic to. At least if your message said I would not be able to speak to anyone then I would have tried to get a hold of my delivery service. Overall it was good the atmosphere was pretty good and had a modern feel to it. The food was decent we had the Shack Burger cheese fries and a strawberry shake and the best part of the meal was the shake. The burger was decent but tasted like a low end knock off of a Culver's Butterburger and the fries were crinkle cut which means they game frozen and you could taste that with a few of the fries and the cheese tasted like it came out of a can into the microwave. The shake was amazing but for the 2 burgers 2 cheese fries and shake and a soft drink was $28 so more on the expensive side and for the quality I'm not sure if it is worth it. Happy that a shake shack has come to Madison! The ordering process was straightforward, fast, and easy with the app. It asks for your allergies, your preferences, and an exact pick up time. I like Shake Shack and was not disappointed in this location either. Yes, it is priced higher than other fast food joints, but I think it has better quality. All of their burgers don't look to complex or crazy, but it is packed with a lot of flavor. Love the Applewood smoked crispy bacon. Love the fried large mushrooms ring for their shrimp burger. It is crispy, never soggy! The beef is juicy and flavorful and melts qt the first bite. It seems like every joint is hopping on the hot chicken sandwich train, and i am so here for it. Everytime any restaurant, fast food chain, food truck announces a hot chicken, we are there! Both their hot chicken and regular chicken sandwiches are fine, but the burgers will always hit the spot for me. I like their crinkly cut fries. I think in general, not this location in particular, the fries at shake shack can either be a hit or miss. This time, they were excellent. We picked it up and drove it home (20 minute drive) and the fries held up their crispness for the most part. I will say that the pick up process was not ideal during this pandemic. I didn't think I had to step inside the store, but you do have to go inside. It was super crowded when I went and there was no clear indication that 6ft social distancing rules were put in place since no one was following it. Luckily, my order was ready as soon as it said it was ready, so I was in and out quickly. My paranoia will keep me from going again until the pandemic is over, or maybe ill try to find an off time. The food at shake shack was terrific. One thing that really stood out to me was their recognition of PRIDE. They have a shake just for PRIDE, and all of the shakes come with their logo on it in rainbow coloring!!! I LOVE THIS!!!!!!! More places need to be like this so our world can thrive. So happy to have a Shake Shack in Madison! The locations interior is beautiful and has a nice outdoor space for once the weather gets warmer. Can order ahead on app, at a single kiosk that is open, or with the cashier with plexiglass. They have 6 foot stickers on ground and all employees wearing masks. Order aheads are placed on a table. Indoor dining seems totally closed. I felt very safe in here. Only one or two other customers when I stopped in at lunch time. I thought the cashier was friendly and helpful. They sell beer and white claw in cans. Food was great as expected. Love the juicy burgers that aren't TOO big. We also enjoyed the hot chicken sandwich, and fries. Food tasted fresh. I could see my drink poured and waiting so I'm guessing someone else got our food and our order simply got cleared out of the system. She offered to remake our order but at that point I was tired of waiting and asked for a refund. She was unable to issue a refund so she went and got the manager who had pretty much the same response. She walked out from the back room, checked the monitor to verify the order was MIA and mumbled another apology. So I went back, they gave me fries. No big deal. But once I was in my car I noticed there was nothing on the burger except a little sauce. I asked for "easy on the sauce," not ONLY sauce!! This is my third time here and I have to down grade my rating just because of their coordination when ordering and having to wait for food. I waited for my food for more than 30 mins. People who ordered after me had long left. There seem to be no coordination between the kitchen and the ordering system. I was extra patient because of the Pandemic but when you are asked to stand outside in cold with a crowd of people for this long- I will definitely think twice before going back till the pandemic ends.
