Dr. Kullar did a magnificent job repairing my torn left knee from a ski accident on January 10, 2025. My ACL was completely severed and the meniscus had a complex tear. If I tried to walk on my left leg but every once in a while it would give way and I would go down. Dr. Kullar's staff and the Saratoga Los Gatos Hospital did an excellent job of preparing me for Surgery on February 9, 2025. Everyone was so nice and made sure they gave me every comfort possible. My husband had significant shoulder pain for quite some time. Based on an x-ray it was clear that shoulder-replacement surgery was the only "cure," but he could treat the pain with ibuprofen and cortisone as long as he could live with the pain. He finally reached the tipping point where he knew he could not live the next 20-30 years of his life with the level of pain he was experiencing, but who do you trust to perform a major surgery like shoulder replacement? You want someone good. You want the best. How do you know who that is? Our primary physician wouldn't recommend a specific surgeon, but she gave us the names of five surgeons and said we could do some research and then ask her for a referral to one of them. Dr. Kullar was one of the surgeons our doctor named. When we did our research, he had excellent credentials and numerous positive patient testimonials with no negative themes in those reviews. We made an appointment to meet with him. In our meeting with Dr. Kullar, he confirmed that my husband was a candidate for total shoulder replacement. He explained the surgery, gave us an overview of the pre-op process, told us what to expect in terms of outcomes, and discussed the healing and rehabilitation process. Dr. Kullar also described risks and his track record with the surgery. Dr. Kullar was efficient and confident. We believed my husband would be in good hands with Dr. Kullar. The pre-op steps were made clear to us and everything went smoothly. We met with Dr. Kullar's physician assistant prior to the surgery and his experience was also clear. Moving through the process felt like being part of a well-oiled machine. We did have some questions due to contradictions between the doctor's instructions and the hospital's instructions. My husband messaged Dr. Kullar via MyHealthOnline; he responded quickly, clearly, and kindly. My husband's surgery was performed at El Camino Hospital. The metaphor of a well-oiled machine is again applicable. I did not see Dr. Kullar prior to surgery, but my husband said that he was friendly and reassuring. Dr. Kullar called me when the surgery was finished to tell me all went well, there were no complications, and that I would be able to rejoin my husband once he was transferred to a room in the orthopedics wing. Dr. Kullar also called us at home the next morning to check on my husband and ask if we had any questions. He verified that the home health nurse had been in contact and he answered a question I had about the nurse removing the surgical dressing. It can feel odd to trust your body to a surgeon you have only met once prior to the day of surgery, but it was clear that Dr. Kullar is experienced and highly competent. We felt in good hands. Other members of the care team remarked that Dr. Kullar is very good and that he is clear and thorough in his discharge orders. I can only speak with the highest regard for Dr. Kullar and his staff. He did both of my laprascopic rotator cuff repairs within 3 months of each other. I had been warned of the terrible post-operative pain that a few friends and acquaintances had had when they had their rotator cuff repairs, so I was not looking forward to surgery. I don't know what magic, Dr. Kullar performs, but the post-operative periods were without much pain at all. I kept expecting the pain to come, but that post-operative period pain was minimal. I just completed my third shoulder surgery with Dr. Kullar, the last 2 being shoulder replacements. I have experienced nothing but the highest level of care by Dr.Kullar and his care team at PAMF. During office visits I felt Dr Kullar took the time to explain the options I had as a result of the X-rays taken before a procedure was done. I was given a thorough exam at the onset of the each visit, and elected to take on both shoulder replacements after carefully weighing my options. The fact that I've just completed my fourth joint-replacement surgery with Dr. Kullar (both hips and both knees) speaks volumes about my confidence in his surgical skills. Dr. Raj Kullar and team was the best rated surgeon I could find in S. Bay. So going into the initial consultation I felt confident even though I had never met him. He was very straight with me telling me that I had a torn tendon but that I could live with it if I didn't choose surgery- he suggested that my physical lifestyle should determine if I move forward with it. Best decision of my life was selecting Dr. Kullar to do my total hip replacement. I was in and out of the hospital within 12 hours. I had no nausea. I have not needed narcotics. I am post op day 5 today and have walked a mile twice in the past 3 days. I am not one to write reviews on Physicians, but I am so unbelievably happy about this outcome. This man is a cocky, conceited, arrogant man who doesn't listen. I was working with one of his cohorts in the same office that doesn't perform surgery anymore. He recommended to Dr Kullar that I have a bursectomy. I'd been in pain for a year and a half, and had no improvement despite physical therapy and injections (40 year old female). I was unable to even walk a mile because of hip pain. I couldn't sleep on that side or even lean on it. I go to see Dr. Kullar and he doesn't even look at the back X-rays I had, the MRI, and hip X-rays, he just proclaims "I think it's your back." It's not my back, my MRI shows the inflammation in my hip. He says, "You should go to the gym and do some sit-ups on one of those blow up balls." I begin to cry, because I now realize my pain shall continue and I'll have to start over with another surgeon. He says, "There was another girl in here crying like you, looking for a quick fix." Now let me tell you why all of this makes him a nightmare doctor. I went to another surgeon who got a second MRI. This new MRI showed multiple tears in the gluteus medium tendon and bursitis. I had surgery to repair the tears, three anchors put into my hip, and a bursectomy. After several months of physical therapy I'm finally pain free. I'm happy there are doctors that actually listen to their patients. Dr Kullar is not one of them. I wonder if he didn't take me seriously because I'm a woman? read more

Dr Kullar repaired a ruptured left arm tendon for me in Oct of 2019. It was the perfect result of a difficult procedure. By contrast, I had a similar injury on my right arm which was repaired by a different surgeon in 2017...and it did not go well. The 2017 procedure was burdened by infection and complications. I am a 55-year-old female. I went to see Dr. Kullar bc I knew I had a torn ACL. Had surgery 12/3/18. Dr. Kullar is an PREMIER surgeon. He is proactive, which is something that is lacking with most doctors in Santa Cruz county. With the exception of my primary care doctor, I travel to San Francisco to seek medical care. However, Dr. Kullar was highly recommended to me by my friend who is also a doctor. Side note: I've had torn ACL for 10 years. Been to other surgeons for consult. I was not impressed. Dr. Kullar not only fixed my torn ACL but also fixed my MCL and the meniscus - very proactive. After the surgery, I had some pain for two days. Took pain pills. After the first two days, I had hardly any pain. Incredible! No, I do not have high tolerance for pain. I believe my lack of pain is a result of having had a successful surgery by a premier doctor. Though the recovery process is long, I am confident that my knee is definitely more stable and I will be able to do the same things I did before without any pain or fear that my knee might give out. Throughout this process, I've had many questions which I've sent via email to him. He responds within minutes or an hour. He is very responsive. He is very professional. Dr. Kullar has no interest in his non surgical patients. He spends no time on how the patient is really progressing, he never even returned calls from the Physical Therapist! Dr. Kullar performed a full knee replacement surgery on me about 10weeks ago. The surgery was very successful. Dr. Kullar and his staff have been wonderful throughout the entire process. I appreciated Dr. Kullar's evaluation of my knee, which was matter of fact and thorough. He managed to straighten out my very crooked leg with what must have been some complex engineering when he "installed" my new knee. The follow-up support from his office has also been an important part of the recovery process. His PA, Dena Pruitt, has answered all my concerns since surgery. I drove a long way to reach the office where Raj Kumar works because of the difficulty of getting an appointment anywhere. When I arrived all they did was take an x-ray, and he didn't even examine me before declaring that I appeared to be just fine and if not, it's not his specialty. I tried to impress upon him the severity of my problem but he would not listen. He didn't seem to know what to do with my arm, despite being an orthopedist. In fact he gave a wolfish grin from ear to ear when he told me that he could not help me. How an irresponsible person like Raj Kullar could get "board certification" is beyond me. He is not a practicing doctor in any normal sense. He is the anti-doctor, declaring patients who are clearly in pain to be healthy. He comes off more as a rich little boy who is trying to get away with doing no work, rather then adult who must take time to do grown-up work, and take responsibility, and show sympathy. He did no work in my case, showed no sympathy, and tried to get me out the door as fast as possible. I subsequently went to a real orthopedist, who did a real examination with specific tests, who prescribed therapy and medication. Kumar did none of that. He is a fraud and he knows it. read more

I too had a very bad experience with Dr. Kullar. Some of the first words out of his mouth (after he introduced himself) were "well, based on your age, I wouldn't recommend surgery." This was in reference to my seeking treatment for a completely severed ACL in my left knee. I was stunned. He could have started with "tell me about yourself, what kinds of activities you like to do, and what you are unable to do. How active are you? What activities would you like to be able to do again?....." But no, he didn't bother to discover that I was going to yoga class 3 times a week, and doing Pilates at home a couple of times a week. He was such an arrogant man with terrible "bedside manner." Where was his genuine concern and compassion? I think he didn't want to bother with me because I wasn't a 20 year old male athlete. Now, 8 months after the ACL injury, I am very limited in what I can do. I can't do yoga, or stand for very long, or walk very far. I limp and my knee is very unstable. I am in constant fear of injuring it further. I was so angry that I felt motivated to "fire" him. I sent him a message via the PAMF app telling him he was a horrible doctor and why. It didn't solve my problem, but it felt good, and some doctors could stand to be encouraged to be more humble. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Kullar and his entire office! I came to him with what 2 other MD's thought was a sprained knee and he originally concurred but got me in to PT right away and recommended an MRI to be sure. Well, turns out I tore my ACL, MCL, meniscus and another ligament and had been walking around on it for a month. He really helped me understand what the process of pre-hab would be and was very supportive and encouraging even when I felt I wasn't making enough progress. He was very clear that this work before surgery would make for a better result afterwards. Dena, his PA, did the pre-op and between the two, they answered all of my questions and concerns. One time I sent a message thru the website to his MA, and he answered it directly! He spent time with my husband and I the morning of the surgery, spoke with both of us right after and really took the time to make sure we both understood what he had done and what the recovery would be like. I had very little pain and was off pain meds within 3-4 days. Most importantly, I was at PT within 4 days and riding the exercise bike! It's still a long haul, but Dr. Kullar and I are confident that this almost-50 year old will be back on the ski slopes next season! read more

This Doctor is fantastic! Our 5 year old son fractured his elbow severely and Dr.Kullar performed surgery and did an excellent job. He not only provided our son with wonderful care he did such a great job that our son had a fabulous outcome. He was kind to us, explained everything very well and spent time with us answering questions and concerns. He has a friendly disposition and most importantly is a great orthopedic surgeon. During all of our follow up care we never waited in the waiting room for more than 2-3 minutes. On two occasions he came out himself and took us to a room.
