They also have an amazing deli counter with probably the best pricing around. With good pricing, their cold cuts turn over quickly so you know you are always getting something fresh. While they used to be the least expensive store for just about everything, we've also seen their prices climb over the years. But compared to the large grocers in the area like Jewel, they are much less expensive. Shopping at Valli can be fun - you'll see things you've never seen before. Lots of people shop there so also be prepared for lines at their checkout counters. But, it's all worth it.

Just plain miserable people work there. I started to walk back to the place where I knew those heavy duty bags were and they started to have a conniption. You think you can do what you want! yelled the black man. I said yes. I do. He followed me out of the store and then started harassing me calling me white privileged woman. I was unlocking my bike and he said something about you want to meet mah wife! (Threatening me?) and I said she can get some exercise on a bike (I just couldn't help it but I didn't see her so I didn't know it was obvious she was out of shape because he yelled "you callin mah wife fat bitch? !" Two hostile faces were eyeing me at that point. And this guy works there harassing me outside. Wow. This is the bad side of Evanston. I was told I should call the police because it's other incidents like that could happen and this guy is insane. And the other employees are extremely hostile as well. Let's see if BBB should be contacted. If there is surveillance you will see all of it this evening. Sunday May 31st when they closed at 9:00 p.m. Honestly, I have noticed the staff who run the store the ones behind the counter have evil eyes. Evil looks. Evil attitudes. Dark souls. You grab a basket and fill it with whatever veggies you want, then a separate one and fill it with proteins, then you pay by the weight. You can either get it hot pot style in a big bowl of hot broth, or dry pot where they cook it in the broth but serve your food already cooked. As far as the grocery selection, they have a big seafood selection and a decent butcher area. Also a lot of Asia snacks and frozen selection, and a small liquor section too. Produce is fine. But if you're making hot pot at home, they have the sliced meat, soup base, sauces, and a little frozen fish ball self-serve area. If you don't want to eat hot pot here, they serve other Asian hot dishes, and there's a bubble tea spot and bakery here, but I haven't tried anything else besides the hot pot. Sense a trend yet? It's not as big as Joong Boo, and it's bigger than the current H Mart for now but will be interesting to see how the new one compares. Having a separate entrance to the food court from the market was also interesting! I went in the market entrance, thinking that it might connect to the food court, but alas, it does not. The food court is laid out in what I believe is an efficient manner. (I'm trying to imagine what it would look like on an extremely busy day!). The space has a good number of seats (Hooray for eating dumplings inside in a Chicagoland winter!), and the staff at the dumpling stand were very friendly and efficient. Yet every time I place an order, that delivery window is what's advertised. As usual, the driver marked the package as delivered and uploaded a photo. The problem? The photo was of a random fence. Not my home. Not my porch. A fence. And that was accepted as "proof of delivery." I'm livid. This isn't just a careless driver--this reflects Amazon's broken delivery process and poor hiring standards. Who thinks snapping a picture of a random fence counts as evidence? It's pure incompetence. To make things worse, when you try to get help, you're forced into a scripted chat system routed overseas, where the agents clearly aren't trained to actually troubleshoot real issues. After explaining that my delivery never arrived, Amazon offered me $5 as compensation. Five dollars--for items that cost more in shipping and tax alone. I spend my hard-earned money faithfully with this billion-dollar company, yet there's no real accountability, no genuine apology, and no urgency to fix repeated delays that stretch into weeks. Instead, they add insult to injury with a $5 offer, as if that somehow makes things right. So I want people to understand exactly how companies like this see you and your money. They don't value loyalty. They don't care about inconvenience. And they certainly don't care about the customer once they've already been paid.

Where they do have them, they are not localized in one area like you would find in other stores. We went in for a specific gluten-free item and just couldn't find it. We asked someone who works there and they said they didn't know where it was - that it could be anywhere. Regardless, I am usually able to find most of what we need. The discounts they apply to Amazon Prime members really helps, too.
