It's a big corporate grocery store, I mean the barrage of bad reviews for here basically tell the story. Now, I do come here probably the most out of our local groceries since it's closest and generally has what we need for our weekly haul. Salads, kale, milk, eggs, bananas, meats, fish, all the usual stuff. If you come on the wrong day the produce area might be bare but otherwise you might find some decent deals on stuff. The big issue nowadays is their stupid app you have to use to get these deals. Reception is bad in the store and their wifi is spotty, but you have to use the app otherwise you're just overpaying for things. And of course it's ageist...I'm used to using my phone for everything, but not everyone has a smartphone or knows how to get these deals. You already have our phone number and the data of what we're buying, why make us jump through more hoops? It's annoying, and makes what could be a quick grocery run into a frustrating experience. read more

I am totally disgusted by Jewel Osco's customer service and food safety. My daughter had just given birth. She placed a pickup order with the Palatine Jewel. 2 hours after it was supposed to be ready it was still in a cart. She called the store and spoke with a man who was very rude. He said they would put everything back(including refrigerated and frozen) after sitting out for hours. Corporate never called her back. Today she went to the Jewel in Schaumburg on Roselle rd. She served her family dinner, (including her 1 yr old)Grammas potato salad. And she bit into glass! God forbid her son swallowed it. Jewel you can do a lot better! read more

This Jewel never has the hot $1 Nathan's hotdogs offered by all the other Jewels! When I ask, they tell me they never got the buns in! What....you have shelves of buns but these are special buns I'm told! I wasn't born yesterday. Huge disservice to seniors living on a budget forcing us to shop at Tony's! I was doing an Uber Eats delivery at this Jewel-Osco location with another person. One of the employees was being rude and difficult to work with. we noticed a bag of eggs that had completely fallen apart several were cracked and broken. It was obvious they hadn't been handled with care. We called the store to let them know, thinking we'd be treated with basic respect. Instead, the manager said and I quote "I'm hearing you, I just don't care," and then hung up on us, the lack of accountability from grown adults is insane. That level of rudeness and lack of professionalism is completely unacceptable, especially when dealing with food and customers. I would give it a Zero Star if I could. Went in on a Thursday 2/12 at 7:00. All registers were closed. No one in sight. Found a manager and asked why there was no registers open she said she had only one cashier and he was at lunch. I said that not too smart at a grocery store. HER response was you have the choice to shop somewhere else. Which I guarantee I will and I will tell everyone not to go to that Jewel. My first review but enough is enough with this particular Jewel grocery store. It might be the same at all of them. This is going to be a long one. The turnovers in the bakery were buy one get one free this week. I bought one apple and one cherry. It would be nice if the turnovers had filling in them. Was there some? Barely. Mostly all dough. I'm glad I didn't pay full price which was 6.99 for 4. I should have known when I picked up the package and it was so light. I was there at night because it is the only time I can shop after work. One cashier. Maybe they want everyone to use the self-checkout. There was a line at that one register and no one to bag so the cashier was doing it all. I was surprised how nice she was. I was tired after working and the wait made me crabby which is probably why I'm writing this review. The turnovers were the tip of the ice berg. I've never been more insulted in my life by this place. I was attempting to buy alcohol in the self check out. This young man wearing a black face mask accused me of already being drunk and refused to sell it to me. was I sober? Yes. I walking funny? Yes, and that is due to a rib injury that a currently have. Did I have bloodshot eyes? Yes, that is due to having metal extracted from my left eye YEARS ago due to my profession and that eye is permanently bloodshot. Did he think he smelled somthing on me? IDK, but with asking any questions at all he literally told me "I can you're already drunk and I can't sell this to you." Instead of starting an argument I just walked away and made my purchase at another establishment. I reported this incident to management after I left and I'm currently waiting for their response. read more

Today is the day that really pissed me off. I asked for a rain check, she looked through the sales paper and went back in the office. Worst grocery store. Terrible customer service. Very short staffed. Almost no cashiers and the cashiers on staff are very rude. Even the people tending the self check out and stocking the shelves are pretty rude. I had to stop there on my way home from work on evening and unfortunately needed to use the restroom. Someone had basically exploded in the restroom and it was just left for the next unfortunate victim to experience. The produce always looks like it's ready for the trash. The butcher shop has low quality meat that is very overpriced. They constantly reorganize the store so you're always looking for products and they often discontinue items out of the blue. They recently refurbished their liquor area and changed all the aisles again making the store even more empty in some areas and over crowded in others. I only shop there in a pinch because it is just around the corner from my house. During the pandemic I refused to shop there at all after seeing the butcher blow his nose and then go back to work without washing his hands. Honestly I've been having Target deliver my groceries for over 2 years and the service is better and it's oddly enough cheaper even with a tip for the driver. Now that Tony's is open I really don't see why anyone would want to shop there anymore. The store has been a shambles for over a decade. read more

This is my fourth review of this store. I shop here frequently as I do other grocery stores. My last review, I commented that I saw an improvement in service. Noted new and more staff and store resets. Also checkout staff seemed more engaging and friendly. Good thing. Improvements. Why? Competition. Tony's has opened down the street north on Roselle forcing Jewel to modernize the store and improve service to fend off competition and retain shoppers. It's interesting what competition can do. This competition example can be applied in many areas like education, business, sports, and government. Capitalism at work. Try hard, succeed, improve your life. This is the Jewel store on my way home from work. For the most part, I find myself stopping here for last minute needs but I'm not a fan of the layout. I'm more likely to drive to our Jewel on Schaumburg and Barrington roads. They have more friendly faces and I can find what I need there. I didn't like the layout before and now that they are redoing the stores, I'm even more confused. Please be done with changes soon! They have all the basics at this store but since the Dominick's down the street is closed down, this place is a madhouse they cannot seem to keep up with. More registers are needed and additional staff to make up for all the new shoppers. We waited about 20 minutes in line for a few groceries yesterday. I was not a happy camper, to say the least. Mariano's is not too far away, Jewel, you may want to consider making some improvements. read more

I usually stop in for a few things during the week and I have to say lately their flower and plant selection has been really nice. Some of their prices are a bit much but for the most part they are reasonable and I enjoy being able to pick up small little things to brighten up my day. I do not agree with the negative reviews of Jewel/Osco on Wise and Roselle. I have nothing but positive things to say. I have lived in Hoffman Estates for over 20 years and this has been my go-to store for both groceries and prescriptions. The night pharmacists, Ted and Kathy, are absolutely wonderful! Several others have helped me and also do a terrific job, but I don't recall everyone's names at the moment. The pharmacy technicians, Karen and Pat, are simply terrific too! They do their best to make sure that everyone is waited on and are always personable. Even if it's busy they still care enough to make sure that all questions have been answered. Each Osco Pharmacy staff member treats the customers as if they are members of their own family. The kind staff is why I continue to come back time after time. This is my second review of this store. I honestly wish it was a better store. It is not a pleasant shopping experience like many of the updated and modernized stores. Poor deli never with enough employees, poor meat dept, poor produce but Antonio is helpful while seeming unfriendly...he's not. Today, Cherry tomatoes are marked with a highly visible tag; SALE. Since I have Covid at the moment, I have been ordering my food for pickup at Jewel. The first time it went alright but today they substituted for about a third of my list and some of the substitutions were bizarre. For example, I need 1 lb. of mushrooms for tonight's dinner but they substituted 8 oz. Not 2 8 oz packages just 1. Also, delicata squash for Cayotte. It makes no sense. Stay away from the worker who stacks grocery carts at the entrance. He doesn't care who's in his way and I swear he'll knock me over if I don't stay clear of him. Also, yesterday 2 young boys played with basketballs up and down the aisles and in the middle aisle of the store for over 10 minutes, almost bumping into people who were coming around the corner and didn't see them! There are seniors with canes trying to shop! Where are the Jewel personnel or do they just don't care? They only stopped after I finally said something to them. Seriously?! Every time I go into jewel I feel tricked and gaslit. The price that is in big print front and center seems to never be what you pay at the register! They literally market by trying to trick their customers! Look at these pictures and 3 were ringing up over $20! I guess there is some fine print they told me when I brought it to their attention. Who would pay that? How many old people have they scammed or people that are in a hurry? They don't have the customer in mind ...they want to trick customers out of their money! This is just another story of yet another store gone bad. In the last 5-10 years I've watched and experienced this particular store go down in quality, cleanliness, customer service and cost. The quality of their produce is by far the worst part of the store. At first you just think it's your fault for selecting bad fruit or vegetables but then your experience becomes much more frequent. I have noticed in the past 2-3 years that their fruits and vegetables are stored in VERY COLD coolers at night , at almost FROZEN the items are then brought out on the floors for sale. The young cashier was extremely pleasant but could only do so much. No social distancing and not all were wearing masks. The produce gentleman has always been rude! It's just a Jewel. And yet... there's something about this Jewel that makes me forget it's a big faceless corporate chain grocery store. We totally take advantage of their 24-hour schedule. Late at night, it's weirdly peaceful, the same cashiers and pharmacists are always there, and they're competent and friendly. I didn't even realize how competent they were until I started experiencing incompetence while checking out at the Schaumburg Whole Foods, ha. Once in a while we get a glimpse of something *more*. One day there was a stand by the entrance offering free salsa samples from the deli workers, one of whom proudly explained he was hoping to get it approved so they could start selling it. They were also doing pineapple cutting demos. Another day there was a charmingly hand-drawn sign explaining how to cut pineapple. "ENJOY!!!" was the last step. It's inspiring to see people putting personality and effort into a potentially very blah establishment like this. However, I haven't seen much of this stuff lately, so maybe it didn't catch on with the bosses. Going to have to ask the cashiers some time. read more

Absolutely furious. Needed yeast for bread tomorrow so I placed an order totalling about $50. Not only was the order late (after 8 pm on a Sunday night) it was missing 3 of the 15 items I ordered - 1 being the yeast. Not even a substitution on any of the missing things. I'm almost 60 and I know for a fact that there are 3 different brands of yeast - packaged yeast. I put best available substitution. Nope. Out of ice cream and out of Oscar Meyer Deli chicken lunchmeant. Wow. Here is the kicker.....I was waiting to have a late dinner of a salad because we had a late lunch. I took the head out of the bag and it's ORGANIC GREEN CABBAGE! Now don't you have to scan the items your putting into the order? Well Jewel I am done. I had 2 horrible experiences with pick up and now tried the delivery and I will stick with Wal-Mart whose customer service and prices are much better. PS even your customer service representative on the phone didn't know if they scanned items. read more
