I was on FaceTime with the client showing them the patches available in the store. While I was browsing, the fat head lady behind the counter told me to take pictures of the patches I was interested in and bring them to the counter for pricing. When I came up to ask about the price of one of the patches (a rice box patch), she asked if I had taken a picture. I told her I thought I had but realized it didn't take while I was on FaceTime. I then asked, " you have more than 1 patch thats a box of rice?" She stated "possibly!" She then asked what was wrong with me. I told her I was irritated and simply being honest that I'm human and having a moment. Instead of continuing the conversation or helping me, she told me my energy was bothering her and refused to serve me. She stated that again when I advised her she still diet answer my two simple questions. I left the store feeling disrespected and shocked that I was denied service for simply expressing that I was irritated. I was in the store trying to support a Black-owned business and help an artist prepare for a 314 Day performance. My u you would think with a name like Woke Brand one would know the power in being able to read energies if your chakras are alined. I came in that store happy and excited and with a pure heart so the only energy She should have read was the one that tells her to mind her business she pulled up a stool and sat diwn to ask me that. Like huh. I gave her an answer twi e calmy with no disrespect intended because she actually had nothing to do with why I was over stimulated. Shit my dog couldve just died‍. I regularly support and promote Black brands, so this experience was very disappointing. Businesses should treat customers with respect and professionalism even if someone seems to be having an off moment. I really couldn't adjust fast enough for her and actually did the best I could do at the moment. I will be filing complaints with the proper consumer and business agencies because no customer should be refused service for something like this. I'm sharing this so people know what kind of treatment I experienced today. You never know who you are talking to and who people know. It saddens me to have to go this route especially with a brand I myself was promoting free but you don't get to cause me pain and suffering and not have any consequences.

Well today, I took it to the tailor and she told me it was going to distort the suit because it needed so much taken in. So I called St. Louis Suit Co back to ask for some sort of discount or refund, Jay said "absolutely not" then hung up on me! Everything in the shop was 30% off for their sale at the time but she gave me even better prices for buying a few things! I am probably among his first customers, when he had the Euclid shop. This was in the hey days of the CWE, Flamingo Cafe, Europa, Balaban's, Culpepper's and others. I wanted a sandal with no back strap and with Steve's input, I got my first pair of custom sandals. The toe strap finally broke, and an identical new pair was purchased when the shop was on Delmar. The third pair was purchased while he was in Belleville. I wore and still wear these sandals virtually every day that the weather allows. Cheaper, accepted by the masses, but classless, flip-flops have never had a place in my closet. I don't need new sandals, but I need Steve's skill to see if he can salvage a Mary Francis purse in which the "leather" shoulder strap, cracked, peeled, chipped and is unusable, as it is. I believe anything that you buy from Steve will be as well made and your experience will make you believe that there are still people who don't accept mediocrity in their products. Fashionable footware + moderate prices + kind employees = winner…read more I love going shopping for clothes, but I tend not to care too much about shoes. I stick with flats, and Target and Payless have what I need for less than $40. My Chucks cover most other situations. Thus, I never really think about going to shoe stoes like Bakers. Luckily, my friend Lindsey (Bakers social media person and owner of Miss Ohio Vintage) recently threw an exclusive Bakers shoe party, and my friend Jenna and I got to go. Turns out that I've been missing out on a lot of great shoes by limiting myself to only two stores! The party was fabulous, and of course everyone was on their best behavior and dressed to the nines. Lindsey had arranged a local chocolatiere and makeup artist to show off their wares, and there were plenty of door prizes for Bakers merchandise. Employees were quite chatty and helpful, and the shoe models were a nice touch. But this is a review of the store and not the party itself, though the shoes that Bakers carries are the standouts for both. I found a ton of boots with a flat or slight heel in black, grey, camel and brown, and there were a million flats that shimmered, sparkled and showed off. There also were plenty of taller heels and uber-fancy shoes for ladies who really like to stand out (Hello, Jenna!). Prices were a bit more than what I normally pay at Target and Payless, but the shoes and boots felt a little sturdier, too, so the prices fit. Not low-end, not high-end, Bakers is firmly in the middle. I tried on a few boots and ended up walking away with a pair of killer over-the-knee black leather snakeskin boots for $99 (on sale from about $130). Bakers also has great accessories, including purses, tights, hats, jewelry and shoe jewelry (new to me). I won a burgundy clutch and matching headband as door prizes and purchased some violet tights and a set of black and pink bangles (each originally about $12, but later discounted with my boot purchase). Customer service is great too. After the party, I realized that I was accidentally charged for a bracelet that I thought I was going to purchase but didn't (I had a pile of stuff held at the front desk, and it had stayed mixed in, even though I didn't actually take the bracelet home). No problem! I called and explained the problem, brought my receipt and items, and they refunded my card with an apology and a smile. Bakers definitely will be in the mix when I'm ready for new flats this spring.

First thing's first…read more I'm not a fashionable man. Whatever success I have with fashion can be attributed to my lady helping me out. On the occasion I do shop for myself, I tend to enjoy t-shirts and hoodies. It just happens that the good people of SwedLife have plenty of those items. SwedLife hasn't been around very long but they make up for it with plenty of personality and style. The first thing you'll usually notice are the owners Lucas, Seth and Mark (the resident Style and Sneaker expert). They are very quick to offer assistance if you need anything or have questions. If you are not a person into sneakers, fitted hats or snapbacks then it can be a bit much. However, the gentlemen can put your fears at ease pretty quickly as they are very relaxed and patient. Also they have all sorts of choices size wise. The shop isn't a very large place but they make great use of the space and the walls are brimming with artwork done by local artists. As a fan of hip hop, I love that they are constantly playing the newest and greatest music from national and local artists. If you don't know about the local scene or the even the next show, they can fill you in pretty quickly. Also they Sneakerheads as well (aka Sneaker Collectors). They are all experts but Mark is your guy if you need to know about the latest and greatest. In regards to price, it's not a cheap place to shop sadly. You can easily drop some major cash here if you aren't careful. The brands they carry aren't cheap but they are usually the only ones that carry those brands. The alternative is that you can order online so it isn't a bad deal. All and all, SwedLife is in a prime location and has a lot going in regards to it's personality and fashion. Some people might not be into the music or even the style, but if you do graviate towards that style SwedLife is one of your best options in St. Louis.

And the prices are awesome. I will say, pass on SwedLife if you're the type of person who uses "hipster" as a four-letter-word. You'll know as soon as you walk in if this is the store for you.
