I'd long been curious about 5th Ave Grill and Bar, but for some reason I'd never stopped in. Today, I did. 5th Ave Grill and Bar is located right on the Main Street strip in Beech Grove. It's, you guessed it, a grill and bar. It's also, you guessed it, on 5th and Main Street. Beech Grove is pretty hit-and-miss when it comes to accessible businesses on Main Street. Fortunately, 5th Ave is pretty solid with a slightly slanted entryway and even a few tables for outdoor dining. Most nights of the week, they host either events or live music. On this day, they had a solid but not necessarily large crowd. As it's race day here in Indy, the Indy 500 was on most (but not all) channels. I was served fairly quickly. It always feels weird to order an iced tea in a bar, but I'm always grateful when they have it. I took some time to browse the menu. It's mostly your standard bar fare with several burgers, pizza, some handhelds, and a few other items. It's worth noting that handhelds don't come with a side - that's extra (chips or fries for $3 with the ability to upgrade the fries to a specialty for another $3). I opted for the breaded tenderloin sandwich. I added fries to it - I was pleased to see that they were steak fries. The tenderloin is definitely hand-breaded. It's a healthy size. It's what I'd call a good but not quite great sandwich. I didn't quite finish it, though that's partly because my always desired iced tea refill took a bit to actually get. The atmosphere? It's a bar. It's loud, though not unbearably so. People were being social (as is true for most bars). Accessibility was solid. I moved a chair away from a table, and it looked like most aisles were passable. I did not check out restrooms. Overall, I'd call this a very solid 4-star experience all the way. The service was solid. The food was good. The atmosphere was friendly. I enjoyed my time here and would easily return.

I ordered a charred jumbo Belushi (1/4lb beef Vienna hotdog, beef chili, shredded cheddar cheese - I held the onions) and a side of cheese fries. This is probably the best hot dog in town, and the chili on the fries was amazing. The chili by itself would be a good meal, but that's not an option on the menu. They might have the best fries in town as well; they're hand-cut. I enjoyed the cheese sauce on the fries too. For the future though, I will order a regular Belushi instead of a jumbo. It tastes amazing, but the jumbo just has a regular sized bun so the bun isn't big enough to hold the hot dog and all of the toppings. I was messy eating the jumbo Belushi because the bun couldn't hold everything. Having said that, the jumbo Belushi was darn good!! The staff was great too. They're kind, they brought the food out quickly, and they keep the restaurant clean. The person behind the counter recommended the Jordan (Vienna beef hotdog, beef bacon, grilled onions, sport peppers, mayo, mustard) and onion rings. So much flavor and perfectly balanced. The staff were friendly, helpful, and polite. It's a no-frills spot, but that's part of the charm. You can get the dogs boiled or grilled. We proceeded to the counter marked for take-out orders. We were, almost immediately, approached by a woman who directed us to the "new" take-out counter. She explained to us that the location of the area previously used for take-out orders caused congestion in the entryway. We sat near the correct take-out counter, quietly, and waited for the app to let us know when our order was ready for pick-up. Another woman, working that counter, diligently assisted multiple customers with their orders and then she addressed us after seeing that we'd been sitting there for a while. The app didn't say that the order was ready, but she checked and it was. I asked about the extra Frisco Sauce that we'd requested, and she assured us that it was there and gave us a strip of paper with a QR code for the drink fountain. The fountain area was somewhat of a mess, being that it is self-serve and people are messy. Someone approached us wanting to use our codes. Having already used them, we told her that we didn't know if they would still work. She proceeded to help herself, immediately after us, and was able to pour herself soda in drink cups that she'd already acquired. I don't know if that is theft of beverages, but we were not involved!
