Ralph's is an old fashioned side of the road Italian ice/ice cream stand. I visited while in NJ on vacation. They have an enormous selection of flavors for Italian ice a.k.a. water ice, and cream ice (a weird mixture of water, sugar, and ice cream mix which I assume is a powder) as well as ice cream. I tasted several flavors of the cream ice, but I think I'm an old-school Italian ice kinda gal. There were many options for shakes, sundaes, cones and mixings. Even egg creams! The young lady that helped us was so accommodating, letting me taste about 1 million flavors before settling on the classic water ice. We had a banana crunch shake and took some Italian ices in Coconut, cherry and chocolate flavors to go. For a nice refreshing treat, I highly recommend stopping in. read more

Ralph's is my absolute favorite. Hot tip - this location is cash only! The ATM is currently broken. If you want your Ralph's you'll need cash on hand. The selection at Ralph's is above and beyond, but I will only ever order peanut butter cookie dough cream ice. This flavor is pure perfection and is a hit every time. I wish it had more cookie dough, but who can really ever have enough cookie dough? The menu is huge and you can try so many other things like gelato, shakes, cakes and of course so many flavors of cream and water ice. They also sell flavors by the quart / pint. So i would have given it 5 stars But after yesterday (wednesday) interaction with the Owners son, Nick. I wanted to give it 1 star! It's only bc of the other well mannered sweet kids that have helped me in the past that i'll give it 4 stars. Here's what happened. i discovered Ralph's about two months ago, i noticed they had the large tubs and i'll order that and it'll last me a week. I decided to stop by yesterday and this sweet girl took my order. I mentioned 5 flavors (hey i'm a kid in a candy shop) and when she mentioned it to nick he snapped and said three flavors only! She came back to the window and apologized and said sorry the most we can do is three flavors. I said really? okay... (I was thinking it's such a huge container what should it matter. ) I said watermelon, peach and lemon lime. she repeats it to Nick and he angrily comes to the window and said you can only have 3 flavors!!! i was taken back that i was being yelled at by this disrespectful young kid. I said excuse me i gave you 3 flavors!! watermelon, peach and lemon lime. He shouts back, lemon lime is 2!!! I said really!?? why's it say lemon, lemon lime, and lime!!? He went to the back made my stuff and gave it to the young lady. The girls looked like they were on edge and nervous. From the looks on their faces i'm sure they're used to im his outbursts. Nice little spot here. Its on the same road headed to Big Ed's BBQ RIBS. Love this place. It used to be Family Scoops, a family owned Ice cream parlor shop which closed down. I think the one in Hoboken is still open though. Anyways, They have your typical italian ice flavors here. I usually get the bubble gum and or strawberry flavor. Ice cream wise, I recommend the cookie dough. Soooo goood!! I've only been to Ralph's twice. Once was maybe about 7 years ago at this same location. I can remember exactly what I ordered I had a brownie sundae, and I thought the brownie was bad and in general displeased so I never came back. Last night I decided to give it another chance. I ordered a brownie sundae with cake batter and cookie dough ice cream. The brownie was so tiny it was ridiculous and kinda hard. The cake batter ice cream wasn't that great, but the cookie dough flavor was delicious. The only problem within 30 seconds the ice cream melted and turned into liquid. So it was so disappointing. I'm not sure if all Ralph's hard ice cream melts extremely fast or if it's just this location. On the positives of this location I did sample peanut butter cookie dough cream ice and it was SO good! So I'd skip the hard ice cream as it turns to liquid fast and just get cream Ice next time. The place is nice and clean and there is an inside so you don't have to stand outside and order Incase it is raining or cold which is great. Native Staten Islander here - this may carry the Ralph's name but the quality is not there. Lately, the only positive thing I can say about the ice is that it's cold and wet. Can't say I'm a fan of the used car lot that doubles as the parking lot ( seriously guys - the parking lot is small enough without the 1980 El Dorado for sale). But we were still willing to give it another try tonight - a stellar first night of summer - and it was closed at 8:30pm!!!!! Worst experience ever! Ordered an ice cream cone..simple vanilla and chocolate twist. Kid working behind the counter tells me to grab it quick as it's dripping already!!
