The workers here are so rude, wow. Especially Sue! She is one of the worst! My partner had asked her for help by saying, "Excuse me". Sue turned around, looked at her, and kept walking away. Furthermore, when Sue was there at checkout I say, "Hiya! How's it going!"... She doesn't bat an eye and ignores me. Not to mention how I bought a single bottle of wine with my groceries and she had to triple check my face, LOL. Okay . I asked another worker for assistance and said, "Excuse me" maybe 3 times? She just kept looking down and ignored me. I'm often left to bag for my own as well. And when I do bag, they get irritated at me because I don't bag quickly enough??? And I'm like uhh ok sorry for bagging my groceries while nobody was helping. There are some nice workers. No Xxtra Flamin Hot Cheetos, no hot Fritos, no hot Cheetos puffs, no cheddar cheetos puffs, no jalapeño cheddar cheetos. They stopped carrying the yummy authentic Mikawaya brand of mochi ice cream, and now only carry the nasty pedestrian American brand of mochi ice cream. Like wtf Ralph's. I would highly recommend Ralphs on Alton and Jeffrey. The meat department's worker (Noah) was extremely helpful. He went way out of the way to help me. He saved the day! I walked in and immediately appreciate this store. Clearly this guy Ralph knows how to run an Asian grocery store, it is well stocked and priced appropriately. I was confused at first thinking this was a basic supermarket but once I saw the overwhelming percentage of Asian American patrons visiting this shop in Irvine California, I immediately realized this is actually an ethnic supermarket, it explains the random Asian snacks available for purchase. I asked my cashier to speak with their leader Ralph to shake this hand but they seem confused as if I am asking to meet some mythical character. OLIVE BAR! Really that's the only reason I'm writing this review for Ralph's. They have an olive bar next to the deli and bakery area which is wonderful for an olive-lover like me. Like many other reviewers have mentioned there is a serious issue of blatant racism against Asians at this location. The manager and other staff of Hispanic decent have been repeatedly been found to harass Asian Americans, disregard requests, purposely give wrong products and information, and handle situations, not only unprofessionally, but outright insultingly - with staff and manager using slurs and laughing at customers. Why is there a consistent issue of racism with this particular location? The branch manager or corporate should look into the complaints made. read more

Ever since Covid started things have really started to go downhill in the past year at Ralph's. The young guy with the dark hair it works in the deli service is incredibly rude. Every time I purchase something from the produce section that ends up being mold on it it's not cleaned very well. My first experience here was great. We just moved to the area and the people working their were so nice and greeted you and the cashier helped us sign up for a club card to save money. The second time that same week, I had a rude experience with another cashier. Seems he's pretty infamous based on the other reviews. Good old ray of sunshine ________ I won't publish his name but if you read other reviews, pretty easy to guess. He seems like a miserable man who doesn't like most people and hates his job. Maybe it's time for him to retire. He was unpleasant and made me want to not come back to that location again. I'll just send my happy self to Grocery Outlet across the way. I and my boyfriend were at this store, at self checkout around 11:30pm on 8/15/23. We had 2 separate payments one was his and one was mine. He did his first which went smoothly and I went after him on the same terminal. My order was a bit more than I could afford so I was trying to signal for help but due to short staffing no one was monitoring self checkout so I decided instead of waiting I would go to another terminal. As I was transferring over I had taken a few items out of my original order so that it would be the cost I could afford but I ended up being a few dollars short so I signaled for help once again. While waiting, my boyfriend with the items he PURCHASED decided to go to the car and drop them off. As he was doing so a cashier (of middle eastern descent) finally came to help and I was trying to explain the situation, but she seemed frantic and then took off running out the door. When she came back I asked her "why did you go running?" And she says "Your husband took the items" I look at her bewildered and tell her he PAID for them and went to put it away and she wouldn't even listen to what I had to say. I asked her "do you want to see his reciept?" She says yes and without me contacting him he came back in the store anyway because he knew I would need help to carry my items. He shows both women the receipt and apparently that wasn't enough. The "manager" or "supervisor" (Hispanic decent) I'm not sure her title, tells us that he needs to bring back the items or else she needs to take a picture of his license plate, which was uncalled for but what was more uncalled for was the fact she even had the audacity to follow him to his car and made sure he was bringing back the items. Once they got back inside and they saw everything added up fine they didn't even apologize for the accusation they had made towards my boyfriend. It's unacceptable the fact they wrongfully accuse him of STEALING even after proving his innocence and it was clearly racially motivated since I wasn't accused at all. It was God awful that those 2 female workers had to embarrass me and ESPECIALLY HIM when all I needed was help and the matter could have been resolved in a more appropriate and calmly way. Instead it escalated unbelievably. The hispanic woman was even trying to make excuses for her and the other woman's behavior to me which still doesnt right the wrong of accusing someone of stealing. I even am personally a Front End Supervisor at another grocery store and I am beyond appalled. I can tell you that how those women handled the situation is NOT how you do so unless you would like a write up. I don't expect anything out of my complaint but please do any action that would make mine and my boyfriends future visits more comfortable since this is our local Ralphs location. Walked into the store morning of a Charcuterie party I was helping host, went over to the cheese section and was greeted by an employee named Daisy. This was my first time delving into the world of cheese and she was FANTASTIC! Daisy was very patient, she walked around the entire cheese aisle going over the different cheeses, what paired well with each one, which would combo well, etc. Felt like I had hired a professional charcuterie maker! Very friendly and extremely knowledgeable on the subject. Also helped with cracker selection. People loved the spread at the event. Very disappointed that this store does not enforce masks during this time of rising Covid-19 cases. A woman without a mask was crowding me in the checkout line and I told her "6 feet please", she responded with "your're wearing a mask"...I told her "you're not, 6 feet please". Seriously, if you can't, or won't wear a mask, please don't crowd me in line, please stay 6 feet away. I'm going to shop at Albertsons on Alton and Culver because they have a much better handle on social distancing measures. 2 stars instead of 1 because the checkers are nice, shame on the general manager. read more

The store is clean and are pretty much standard Ralph's. On a Friday evening they weren't particularly busy. Several self-checkout cash registers were open and there were 3 cashiers w little to no line. If you come here because you're driving up to see your boyfriend and want to get some lube not from a gas station, be forewarned that all of the name brand stuff is in locked plastic boxes that you need to bring to the cash register for the cashier to undo. The Ralphs on Alton in Irvine deserves 5 stars. The people are friendly and very helpful. Once, the checkout person inadvertently charged me for an extra gallon of spring water. I left without checking the ticket. When I returned to the store and requested the extra gallon, they believed me. No problem. I think it was the assistant manager who trusted me without question. I came into this location because I was opening an account at the US Bank location inside of this Ralphs. I was actually surprised to see how much good stuff there is inside Ralphs, coming from Albertsons which is closer to me. I've been to Ralphs before, but not in awhile. This location is very clean and it is in a nice area. The parking is not too bad and the general quality of clientele is pretty good. I really like how this store is laid out, it seems to have more things than the Albertsons even though it is about the same size. I also noticed there were better prices, although it was on a sale day so I can't be sure. The fruit and produce section is right up front when you walk in, and I noticed the fruit looked very fresh and there was a wide selection. The design of the section seemed elegant as well with dark hardwood. Also, I noticed that the prices for many things including cashews and even barbecue sauce (the same brand and kind) were significantly cheaper than at the Sprouts I usually go to. I wish the Ralphs was closer to where I live or I would go here more frequently. I do recommend this location and I enjoyed the diversity of items here as well as the seemingly high quality of the items. Additionally, I really like how it is very well laid out to minimize the amount of walking needed to get what you need. read more

You know what I think is the coolest thing about shopping at Ralph's? When you bring your cloth grocery bags, you get 5 cents off you bill for each bag used. So today when we had our groceries loaded into our environmentally-friendly bags (from Yelp, which I got at an Elite party, woo hoo!) we got 10 cents off the bill! Sure, that may not seem like a lot of money, but if you shop at Ralph's frequently (any location, not just this one), it will start to add up. And more importantly, you won't be using those terrible plastic grocery bags that tend to end up in the trash. But if you ever forget your cloth bags and do need to use their plastic ones, make sure you bring them back to the store to recycle. See Kermit, it's easy being green! read more

Went in there to look for some oat milk but had previously bought some fruit snacks from CVS and tried to exit when an employee yelled from the across the store if i would like to pay for the gummies I had in my hand. I informed him that I had for them from CVS and he didn't believe me and made me show him proof of purchase. I get that they are trying to prevent thieves but why do they have to embarrass me in front of the other employees and customers. Very rude. UPDATED 10-02-07: Haven't been to Ralph's in a long time and today, went in to grab something. They've completely upgraded the place. I also noticed that the prices have gone up somewhat also. Nicer than before, but I still wouldn't make it one of my regular places to shop at. -------------------------------------- There is just such a lack of good places to shop for groceries here in Irvine. Since we shop at Gelson's a lot, we thought we'd try Ralph's this time for some deli products. I do shop at Ralph's sometimes for ordinary staples such as yogurt, milk, eggs etc, but it's always been a hit and miss in the service department so I tend not to shop here a lot. Anyway, today, we bought a bunch of stuff (and might I add was not any cheaper than Gelson's but without the excellent customer service) and after I got home, I realized they had charged me for a pound of cheese when in fact, we only wanted 1/4 lb of it. The cheese was actually $2.14 and they charged us $8.49. Unbelievable. So hubby drove back and got the refund with just a sorry. *sigh* what does one do? I went there to get a turkey and the computer gave me a $10 discount. The cashier surprisingly said to me "did you do a lot of shopping here because you're supposed to spend $25 to get the $10 off". WHATEVER!! If not for the proximity, I'd drive over to Trader Joe's more often than shop here. Even Albertson's is slightly better in customer service if not in prices. Just don't understand the coarse behavior I've encountered here with some of the staff members. read more

This is the worst Ralph's in all of Irvine in my opinion, and I think I've been to all of them. After shopping here maybe half a dozen times, you should not really go to this Ralph's unless your life absolutely depends on it. The only high point of this store is the Deli, but really it's no different than any other Ralph's, except the employees are slower here. One time I bought a $1 self-serve coffee from the deli at lunchtime, and the employee spent 2 minutes trying to ring it up and admitted he didn't know any way to scan it so I could pay. He told me I had to go to the checkout, and since all checkouts were busy, I was forced to go to the self checkout as soon as one opened up. It took me all of 30 seconds to figure out how to ring it up but still ended up spilling a little because let's face it, having to ring a hot cup of coffee for yourself at the self checkout sucks. Another time I went there on a hot sunny day trying to get a 16oz sports drink called BodyArmor. It's like Gatorade, but with coconut water in it, and not as bad for you. Every Ralphs sells this drink, and the good ones even have some cold. I had already walked half the store, went to the drink aisles and nada. So I asked an employee don't you guys have any cold sports drinks?? She said oh we have a brand new cooler way in the back let me show you if it's what you need. I said I'm looking for this kind called BodyArmor I always get it at Ralphs. She pointed and next to the OJ they had some 32oz Gatorades. Not even what I wanted and a pain to carry around a quart of that gross stuff, so I just left. It's terribly confusing to figure out what aisle anything is on because the store is tiny, the fruit here is so-so, and even the donuts I got here once (again, in a pinch for work) were terrible. Won't really ever go back. For reference, the other closest Ralph's are on Main and Harvard, and Culver and Walnut. If you can't get to the Fresh Fare on Irvine blvd, which is pretty much the best one, then go to either one of those. Avoid Alton! I'd rather shop for groceries at the worst Target on Culver, then go to this place. Parking is ehhhh and they also don't sell firewood so don't bother. I asked once on my way to the beach and they just looked at me like I was threatening to stab their children. The giant Albertsons further down Alton has this in the middle aisles... read more

This is a nice, clean store with a great variety of products. I especially appreciate the vegan section in the delivery foods and in the frozen section. The produce is very fresh and the organic produce is competitively priced. I am unable to find another market with better prices, if you use Ralph's Club and I regularly get 20 cents per gallon discounts on gas at Shell by entering my Ralph's Club number when I fill up. The one place this location could use improvement is the customer service desk which is essentially unstaffed at all times. If you need something here, expect to wait until someone eventually notices you or go to a checkout line and request assistance. I have stood at this desk over 5 minutes with staff coming and going (clocking in/out?) with no one acknowledging me, so I've learned that you've got to summon someone. The pharmacy in this Ralph's is phenomenal. There is also a U.S. Bank branch and ATM inside of this Ralph's. read more

I've been coming to this Ralph's for 10+ years. Today was such a let down. I go to the deli to get a sandwhich and asked for tomatoes...the young man behind the counter said they were out of tomatoes. This is when my critical thinking kicked in. "There's a ton of Tomatoes right over there". I proceeded to point in the direction of the fruits and vegetables in a grocery store. The young man behind the counter seemed flustered at the thought of being able to grab tomatoes from a giant pile in the very grocery store that he worked at. "Yes, I can go get a tomato from over there but it's gonna take a really long time to go over there then come back and put it through the slicer". My critical thinking kicked in again. If you ever have a problem there then go and see her and she will fix whatever the issue is. She's kind, professional, and quick. To be honest with you, I actually enjoyed coming to this Ralphs. The store is easy to navigate, the employees are friendly, and the prices are great. They're also open on most holidays and are open late. I suppose all good things must come to an end. On Monday, 4/2/18, I went to Ralphs, excited to purchase several items that were on sale. (I mean, FOUR 12 packs of Diet Coke for $2.79 each? That's a steal. They're normally almost $7 each!) So, I purchased a week's worth of groceries and ended up at $99. Right on budget, tremendous value, and excellent price for the amount of groceries I purchased. Two days later, to my horror, I check my bank account only to find that I had been charged a whopping $164 that day. ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FOUR DOLLARS on a week's worth groceries for a 5'1 woman. Immediately, I began sorting through my receipts in search for the faulty charge (I keep ALL receipts). Of course, this is the ONLY receipt I cannot find in my possession. (If you don't believe that I keep all my receipts, check out the photo below). I enjoy Ralphs so much that I even have their APP. I log on to my account, and sure enough, there is no record of my savings from my visit on April 2nd. Just the $164 on my bank statement. The. One. Time. I. Don't. Have. The. Receipt. 100% sure that the lady at checkout didn't give it to me. I have been going to Ralphs for over twenty years.
