I love getting lost in a good Korean market browsing, but it is a tad disappointing when you can't find several items on your grocery list. But if you have never been to a Korean market, give it a try! SO many interesting things you will find. Their produce, meat and seafood items are amazing here. There was a row dedicated just to fresh sashimi and sushi. I was grateful to find their weekly special of pork belly, which looked so thick and juicy. And it is always so much fun to look through their snack, refreshments and frozen aisles. What I could not find was smaller sized rice, which is a bit disappointing, as I did not want to be stuck with a huge size. Also, they are a bit more limited on their ramen and porridge items. Perhaps it is a smaller store? Nonetheless, I had a great time shopping at H Mart Northpark. I was happy with all the purchases I did end up grabbing. Buyer Beware - DO NOT BUY THEIR MARINATED GALBI. Deceptive business practices where they will showcase the larger strips where it's visible and fill the non visible inside with scrap and bone. I've bought their pre marinated galbi 3 times now and each and every time have been regrettably disappointed and utterly disgusted with their deceptive practices. Galbi is already really expensive and you get two maybe 3 adequate strips of galbi. The remaining is dog food scrap. No meat, all bone and fat. The quality of produce and packaging is nicer here. It can be pricier than the other Asian market farther down (you know which one), but it's worth coming to. They always seem to have the "viral" everything to boot! If you like ready made food, the hot bar has improved A LOT! I went in today and they had breakfast sandos, quesadillas, burritos, and Korean dishes (japchae, tteokbokki, bibimbap, kimbap, fried fish, jeon, mandu...). I recently bought a large box of mangoes from this location and when I went to cut it open two days later ...all of the mangoes were spoiled rotten. I tried calling the number to ask about a refund, but no one ever picks of the phone. I'm very disappointed because HMart usually has good quality products but not this time. Shockingly Rude Treatment -- Never Shopping Here Again.... I had one of the worst shopping experiences at Hmart at Northpark and honestly don't plan on returning. My husband and I accidentally got in the "10 items or less" lane, we genuinely didn't notice the sign. I never do this, but I was dragged by him into the line cause he said it was short. It was an honest mistake, otherwise, I never would have gone there. Instead of handling it politely, the cashier immediately told us off, and then another employee (who seemed like a floor manager) came over and yelled at us in front of everyone, saying, "Look at the people behind you, they're waiting because of you!" The tone was loud, condescending, and completely unnecessary. The whole thing felt humiliating, as if we were being treated like uneducated people who couldn't even read English. It was incredibly disrespectful. For a moment, I almost turned around and apologized to everyone in line, even though it was an honest mistake. To make things worse, the cashier kept making mistakes and had to redo transactions multiple times, which only made the wait longer and more awkward. I could feel everyone staring at us, and the atmosphere was so awkward. I just wanted to leave as soon as possible. Accidents happen, especially when store signage isn't clearly visible, but there's no excuse for yelling at customers. A simple, polite explanation would have been enough. If this had happened at Ralphs or another well-trained store, I doubt anyone would have yelled at us like that and put the customer on the spot like this. Hmart seriously needs to retrain its employees on how to treat customers with basic respect. Accidents happen, yelling and shaming people in public is never the right response. The HMart in Irvine Northpark has become my favorite among the Irvine locations I've visited, including Westpark Plaza and Diamond Jamboree. It's also bigger than the HMart in Arcadia. This store is located in the Northpark Plaza, which has ample parking, making it easy to find a spot even on a busy night. The plaza also has a mix of convenient spots like Chipotle, MooMoo Hotpot, Chase Bank, Chevron, Supercuts, and several boba shops. When you enter, you're greeted by the bakery Tous Les Jours Café on the left, which has a good selection of fresh pastries and bread. Further in, you'll find the food hall, featuring popular eateries like Cho Dang, Paik Noodles, CHD, and KTown, with another restaurant, Moobongri, opening soon. For quick bites, the grab-and-go section within the market is a good option, though it was a bit low on stock when I visited, with mostly corn, kimbap, and a few proteins left. A fun new addition to this HMart is the Art Box store on the right side of the entrance. It's a "Korean Creativity Store" with a lot of unique items like stationery, cards, plushies, bags, lunch boxes, and more. The store is filled with adorable things, though the prices are a bit steep--many items are priced in Korean won, and you'll have to check the conversion to USD listed in the store. I picked up two cute pens for $2.59 each! The cashier service was also great - very quick and efficient with many check-out aisles opened. Overall, this HMart has everything you'd expect--well-organized aisles, a great selection of Asian groceries, fresh produce, and meats--all in a clean, inviting space. H-Mart will always do well because of its name , the products sell themselves regardless of other factors. However, the customer service in the grocery section of this location is consistently poor. Not once have I been greeted by a cashier. They're usually busy chatting with each other, and there's never a "hello,"or "thank you," . Every weekend when I shop here, it's the same experience , no eye contact, no courtesy, just a receipt quickly shoved across the counter. Outside, it's also unprofessional. Employees are often sitting or even lying down on the concrete very close to customers, using their phones or playing radios really loudly. It's hard to believe there's any employee training or supervision in place. To be clear, this is not a reflection of the food court or the bakery. The food court and bakery employees are attentive, courteous, and provide overall quality service every time. The issue lies solely with the grocery section staff, whose lack of professionalism brings down the overall experience. H-Mart, please do better -- your customers and your brand deserve higher standards of customer care. read more

Generally, we are happy to shop at HMart. Unfortunately for this location, I can't say the same. Today, we walked up to a Korean manager named Joo Min Lee on duty to ask a simple question about which aisle an item was in and was met with a dismissive, rude response. No eye contact, no effort to help, just "Go to aisle 8, and if you can't find it, we don't have it." Poor attitude from a manager is unacceptable and reflects badly on the store. I called the store to share my unpleasant experience with the store manager not realizing it was the very same person who was a manager on duty. When she realized I called to share my experience and intended to file a complaint to their corporate office, she refused to give me her name and had audacity to hang up the phone! I don't know how she became a manager at the store, but having a manager with such poor attitude doesn't help the store or customers. Do better! read more

The new H Mart in Irvine opened in January 2023 at Northpark Plaza. When it first opened, the food court was crowded with many people. It has been more than a year since we last dined in here. When seeing not so many customers in the food court, I was quite surprised. However, after just five minutes, I completely understood why. Advice to the Upper Management: Please consider following the example set by Mitsuwa Marketplace. Despite having a small food court, they employ two people to clean the dining tables for customers. This food court at Northpark Plaza is significantly larger, but there are no staff members cleaning the tables or the floor. That's why they are so dirty. Customers should not have to clean up after themselves. Please have more napkins on each table. Cutting back on labor costs in this area is not advisable. We don't want to dine in an environment which makes us feel uncomfortable. We won't return until they improve ! read more

Wow. From 5 stars straight down to zero (1). I came by this evening and had a very negative experience at the Customer Service desk. Here's what happened. When a customer comes over to the desk and it's super quiet (not busy) there, it's human common sense to expect some sort of greeting. She looked like a robot and just stared at me so I said hello and how are you? With a nice positive smile with my eyes and joyful inflection in my voice. She just continues to stare blankly at me. So I point to my ear and sincerely ask can you hear me? Perhaps she didn't hear me. She rudely says I can hear you. No other words. WHAT? So a customer does YOUR job with a friendly greeting and you behave like that? So then I thought she perhaps could not speak English. So I offer that she could speak to me in Korean if she prefers. She then ignores this and continues to speak to me in English though she clearly was struggling. I am bilingual and am very patient so this complaint is not about English as a second language. This is a complaint about plain rudeness and no attempt at basic customer service 101. Unbelievable. Management, please address this. Please do not copy and paste a templated response. While the H in H Mart (Han Ah Reum) may roughly translate to "one armful" of groceries, you better grab one of those red shopping carts because you're going to need it! This supermarket has every ingredient you need to cook any Korean dish at home. They also carry a wide selection of Western and pan-Asian products as well. Admittedly, many of their items are more expensive compared to other grocery stores. But I'll occasionally buy a few things when they go on sale: Produce: Boxes of pears for gift-giving, Sungold kiwis for personal consumption. Asparagus, bok choy, scallions, etc. if I'm feeling healthy and need to add a few greens to my diet. Protein: Salmon, yellow croaker, bream, fillets, and other fish. Extra soft tofu for soup, or the BCD starter kit if I'm lazy. Marinated short ribs for grilling at home! Prepared foods: Rice rolls (kimbap) and lunchboxes (dosirak) for a quick meal! Grains and Noodles: frozen rice cakes for soups, short grain rice, sweet pancakes (hotteok), frozen udon blocks, and confectionary rice cakes I used to get instant noodles, snacks, and ice cream, but it's better to buy those elsewhere. The $4 5.6 oz bag of Orion Choco Churros turtle chips were less than $3 at 99 Ranch. Costco had a 17 oz bag for $7. Food court here is lacking, but overall it's a typical H Mart and the experience is consistent with their other locations! read more

H-mart is one of my fav asian grocery stores and was very excited to now have one in my hometown of Irvine. This store is awesome with a food hall to the left with incredible food and a large market, I've loved coming to grab all my asian grocery needs. The only thing I was bummed about it the limited home supply section where they didn't appear to sell a musubi mold, only circular ones which was bizarre to me as I imagine it's a popular item people want. I love the variety of veggies, fruits, seafood/meat and everything else. read more

After work, I stopped in here to check out their snacks. The store was clean and well organized. It was very easy to find stuff. I also found that their prices were pretty competitive. They shared a large parking lot with other businesses in the Northpark Plaza with plenty of available parking. I would definitely do most of my food shopping here if I lived closer. read more

H-Mart is my favorite chain when it comes to Korean-forward selections for noodles, dumplings, beef, and produce. While the Alhambra/Arcadia store remains my personal preference, this new location in the Northpark section of Irvine seems like a good thing for the services sector. Modest food court, big parking lot, and a wide selection of just about everything inside make it a destination for groceries. It was the day before the Super Bowl, and was it crowded! Especially the seafood department. There were all kinds of sales for shrimp heads off, heads on, and two types of massive crab legs. I had to ogle those last items for a while (see pics). The layout in longish and it didn't seem like there were enough employees in that area, but overall, the fish selection and prices were decent. Produce: This is where it's at! Misters work, lots of healthy looking stuff, Chinese eggplant, choy sum, fruit, etc. We brought a cooler and ice, so it was easy peasy unloading the cart in the lot. Sales are a hallmark here. Bags of bok choy are always a premium product for midweek meals. We stocked up on select vinegars, oils, and sauces or marinades, and after cashing out, returned to check out the food court. Everything looked delicious at the various restaurants. The bakery, Tours de Jours, seemed like a clone of Paris Baguette down the street at Zion Market, albeit slightly diminished in output. While the selection was similar, visually, it paled by comparison with the rival. Nonetheless, if you only want to make one stop, this entire complex would likely satisfy all your needs! read more

I was craving for Korean BBQ, so my son took us to this H Mart to pick up some meats and sides. I've been to a couple of other H Marts before, but this one was especially really nice!! Very clean and organized! Their produce selection is extensive and everything is so reasonable. They had a HUGE seafood section, and everything was very fresh! And their meat selection just goes on for days - both fresh and frozen options. We got a great assortment of meats for our BBQ tonight - it's going to be delicious!! *And if you decide to have BBQ at home, don't forget to pick up some of their rice paper! I was hoping that the flow of shopping was improved since the Alton opening but sadly it wasn't. When you go to the store you immediately still get into the fresh fruit (found a few moldy ones) and produce section. Still feels like one way. People stop their cart to pick out fresh fruit and block the rest of the shoppers. I had provided my input at the last Irvine opening but looks like they didn't take any recommendations at all. The only different from the Alton location was that the fresh seafood is on the right side of the store instead of the left side. By doing this the checkout lanes weren't as hectic but you get a bottleneck on the fresh produce and seafood side. Ugg At least this time staff knew where items were located and there were more English signs on top of the store. There's even a good court area and Tous Le Jours bakery. Overall store is clean and better organized. Didn't see any rude employees directing and pulling my cart to the checkout. There were prices that don't match up at the registers. Not sure what's going on. I pointed to the cashier along with a photo is the item and price and she still said I was wrong. I asked her to check with management and she said they aren't available. I've been waiting FORVER for Hmart to finally open near my house. I find that their produce and meat selections are always better than most Asian markets. This new location is even bigger than the others I've been too. The premade ban Chan basically takes up the entire fridge section in the back. So much to choose from! I was pleased to see that they carry Chinese and Japanese products so I really don't need to make a trip to 99 ranch ourselves. My new favorite market (when the hype and crowd dies down). Food court recs: CHD had the absolute best pan fried dumplings. KPOP street food had the best ban chan. read more

Went to the Grand Opening today. It was insane. Cop cars supervising the area and employees directing traffic. I went at 7pm and it was still crazy crowded. However, the employees worked fast and our checkout went quick. Everything was fully stocked and there were a lot of random good deals like $7/lb live lobster and $0.99 frozen Korean corn dogs. Huge selection compared to a regular HMart. Food court was a little smaller than the one on Alton and parking is tighter here. They start marking the prepared cooked food as buy 1 get 1 at 8pm so that's pretty neat. Got a pretty cool metal HMart mug and calendar for being a member or if you sign up. They had a promotion where if you spend X amount, you get free chopsticks, a bucket for washing vegetables, rubber gloves, etc. Overall pretty exciting experience if not chaotic. Hopefully when it calms down, it'll be more easier to navigate. read more

Decided to come back and try out the food court today after a local AM hike. Hubby ordered the seafood jjambong noodle from Paik's while I ordered my favorite seafood tofu soup from ChoDang. The food court has plenty of seats. Since it's family style seating, there's no shortage. It's all just a matter of timing the seating windows. The food court staff are quick to wipe down open tables and clear any debris. On each table, you're reminded to return your tray & dishes to the restaurant order windows. After we finished, we went to grab some precut fruits (melons, papaya, pineapple) which are all reasonably priced (1.50-4.00 a box). I finally noticed the baby snacks nestled at the end cap of aisles 5 & 6. I can now save time in not having to go to D&J Plaza since they're here. I'll definitely be back to this location for grocery shopping and a quick meal again soon. read more

For someone coming from Northern California (specifically San Francisco) where there is only one H Mart, this place is huge in comparison. Everything from the item selections, fresh or frozen seafood options, food court offerings and space to roam are no doubt a better experience. The line is faster. It doesn't feel like a giant refrigerator in this store. There are plenty of parking outside. The staff seem happy and friendly. A young staff was urging us to take as much grape gummies as we can. Came here Grand Opening week around 8PM and the place was still packed with parking difficult to find. However, I found that once I was inside... the shopping experience was more pleasant and less jam packed than the other H-mart on Alton. It was easier to maneuver carts inside the store and there was more space between aisles. They have a ton of everything here, with aisles and aisles of meat, panchan, seafood, housewares, frozen foods, dried foods, snacks, produce, etc. Lots of great specials/sales are ongoing for their Grand Opening. You also get some freebies after check-out based on the dollar amount of your purchase. read more

I never usually write reviews but I am writing this so other people are aware. We usually buy meat here such as marinated galbi. My husband & I made this for our lunch the next day and got extremely bad food poisoning 2 hours later. I was throwing up all night and he had the runs for 24 hours or more. We figured they have used old meat and marinated it then they put a new label on it for when it will be expired. They never put when the meat was packaged which I find odd. Learned our lesson and NEVER shopping at this HMART. read more

This review is more for the Tous Les Jours inside of the HMart. I was a little disappointed in the bakery. The macarons were not crunchy little cookies on the outside like they normally are. They were super soft and kinda tasted a little undercooked. For $2.50 a piece it was not worth it. The other pastries were mehhh. It is a great place to pick up prepared or ready to cook items. If you are looking to stock up on items for college or for a vacation stay, this is a go to place for fruits and vegetables.
