A nice local supermarket, with a Starbucks, Florist, Pharmacy, Post Office Agency, Subway, Chinese and Japanese to boot! Friendly helpful staff who are never to busy to help you find something. I went there around 4 PM to go to the Chinatown Cafe today. There were four or five dishes in the display case that were almost empty along with 2/3rds of the spots having no dish in them at all. Many of the pieces of chicken appeared to have been sitting so long the breading had started to fall off. The chow mein (zero vegetables, just yellow noodles) had at least a half inch of standing water in the bottom of the serving tray. There was no fried rice. There was no one at the counter or cooking in the back. I guess they just start the after work dinner rush with nothing in the display case and hide in back hoping no one shows up. Why they continue to allow this business to waste space in their store is beyond me. It was the only reason I visited today and I left with nothing, so I will not be back for the foreseeable future. It changed owners quite a few years ago and has just tanked in quality since then. I won't mention any other businesses by name but you'd be better off at a popular fast food chain that unfortunately offers some of the best "Chinese" food in Olympia. Excellent produce selection, kombucha on tap, love all the housewares & unique cooking gadgets. My kids love the fresh donuts & toy section. I love that I can get my car tabs, buy stamps, visit Starbucks and get some great deals in their bulk section all in one stop. Their walk-in beer cooler and wine selection is great too. I usually try to avoid patronizing this establishment becuase of thier ludricrous pricing, however I had to pick up some essential goods, and other shops were closed Ralph's Thriftway was closed tonight. It's a 24/7 location, and I understand that doesn't neccesarily mean 24/7/365, I understand there are certain time they might need to close their doors. However both doors were locked and no sign or notice of the closure was posted. I knocked on the door, two employees noticed me there (looked right at me as i knocked and gestured to them and kept on walking out of sight. It looked like they were stocking shelves. WTF? Ralph's is already not a top spot for me considering they refuse to carry plan b. I also have heard many stories of queer employees being fired without explanation, so I guess I should have expected this to some extent. Anyway, I am a woman of color. I went to ralph's because i was really hungry, just got off the bus, and it's close to my house. Ralph's was fairly packed and I was the only visible person of color in the store. When you're the only one, you tend to notice these things. I had on my backpack because I'd just left school but I also had a basket and was putting items into it. There were many folks there with bags that were bigger than my backpack, but the employee walked right past them and told me I had to put my backpack in the locker at the front of the store or leave. Some of you may read this and think, "well that's not a big deal" but you're missing all of the context of this micro-aggression. It wasn't about my backpack. None of the three or four white people I saw with giant bags were asked to do the same...just the only person of color in the establishment. I returned all of the items in my basket to their spots and left. I will never shop at Ralph's. They're overpriced and generally shitty. If you're about advocating for reasonable prices, access to preventable health resources (plan b), and against profiling then I wouldn't go to ralph's. My family and I have been a customer to Ralphs Thriftway for as long as I could remember. Living not even a mile away, made my grocery trips convenient and consistently easy. The employee's have alway's been personable and friendly making it even more comfortable to make grocery trips frequently. Unfortunately I went there this evening and was rudely approached by a employee (Rochelle, short blond hair) who had the worst customer service skills, and truly made me feel horrible. She followed me up and down the isles and was extremely rude. I was not happy with this girl and how she treated me, but I will continue to go to Ralph's because I know everyone there is always friendly and treats all customers with respect. Every time I have to go to R.T. I cringe. I just buy the basic staples: milk, eggs, bread...etc. So, I ran up to R.T. to get eggs, milk, bread, noodles and juice. My total rang up to $34.00.... WTF?! The bread I picked up was sitting on their "Bargain Rack" with big stickers stuck all over the shelves, "2 for $5.00" (still expensive but I'm in a hurry)... I complained to the checker I was being charged full price for the bread; she went and checked and returned to inform me that the "Sale" price was for the Dark & Sweet bread, that my family wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole! So, she says, "Do you still want it?"..I replied, "5 bucks a loaf?!...LOL!... Get another sucker to fall for your shady product placement scheme". Literally, everything here costs about 1.5-2 times as much as it would cost at a major grocery store like Safeway or Fred Meyer. The last time I was in a Thriftway (which is the grocery chain Ralph's belongs to), it was a few years ago and they were all sort of run-down. My how things have changed! This store was clearly upscale, directly competing with Whole Foods and the fancier Safeway Marketplaces in terms of atmosphere and gourmet-level specialty items. Granted, they didn't have the pharmacy item I needed, but staff were friendly and helpful about referring me to other local pharmacies that would be likely to be open and have the item; they even provided directions and a hand-drawn map! read more

Very high prices, I mean ridiculous prices, huge selection of booze and wine, and just lost their eight year legal battle when the Supreme Court so they could deny contraception to their customers. Albertson's is just a short drive further, you'll save a lot of money. Most expensive store in town other than Bayview. I go there as a last resort if I don't want to drive a few miles further to Albertsons. In the deli and Subway you have to flag someone down to help you even if they see you standing there and they act like they are doing you a favor by serving you. Their chicken has no seasoning nor do the potatoes or coleslaw. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!! Once all the older people that frequent the store are no longer around the store will shut down unless they do something about their excessive prices! There are now many stores with better GMO FREE vegetables, meats and other foods. If you don't mind paying way more than any other store in town this is the place for you. WTF!!!!! $20 for a salad bar purchase that is 1.86 lbs, $1.98 for a bottle of Pepsi, and in the past I had to pay $12 for a rice bowl and two egg roles. The ice cream (90% of the time) is expired. It is unfortunate that Olympia will not bring more resturants into the HCA and DSHS areas. The Subway station inside requires that you pay there when you may have a cart full of groceries to purchase. The attendants behind the China Bar are rude and make it a big deal when you want half rice and half chow mein. Really people...is this place even worth your time to get lunch in Olympia? OMG! I could get twice the food for what I paid at a Panda Express compared to what I received at this place. As people should say more often, "BUYERS BEWARE"! I usually have pretty good experiences at Ralph's but tonight there were 2 dogs in the store that clearly were not service dogs, one of them was a big pitbull. The pitbull lunged at my toddler barking and growling. The dogs had been in the store the whole time I was there (at least 15 mins) and no one did anything. Had my daughter not been on her backpack leash she would have ran up to the dog, the owner could barely keep the dog from pulling the leash out of her hand. After this event I think the manager said something to them. This could have been a tragic event because the dogs were allowed to be in the store. I appreciate the convenience of Ralph's and hit the Starbucks inside now and then. There aren't many coffee shops in that area and it's on my way to visit family which is nice. I can't afford to do all my shopping there, but once in a while I'll swing by when I want a snack or just have a couple things to pick up. Their jo-jos are fantastic and they have items you won't find in a major chain. Checking out goes faster now with their self-check lanes, and I love that they are open 24 hours. read more

First I would like to say is I like to support local businesses. Now the problem here is like everyone else's reviews the prices are very high. It's crazy the amount of people that come in to stalk there shelves at home and don't give 2 sh**** about price. It seems like everyone that goes there buys maybe a little more then a dozen items and there already at $100 sum dollars. Now I'm a regular, I work at a business close by and go here for lunch almost everyday the prices are high and I walk out with almost $20 worth of lunch crap a day (maybe a lb of something from the hot bar, little bag of chips,and a soda) So a large sum of each Paycheck is spent in this store. :( sadly But other then all that stuff the the store looks great good selection of products, subway,Chinese,local products . (duh it's a local ran business) But more then anything the Staff are SO NICE they all know me by name and will go out of there way to say Hi to me when I ever I come in. I have come to this store occasionally when I don't have the time to make the 6 mile journey to a grocery store I would much rather shop at. The staff are appallingly rude and inconsiderate to their customers just unprofessional. And often times I actually have someone OBVIOUSLY from loss prevention following me around the store as if I was a thief. The prices here are not always economical and the selection is not great on some items. With that said, it is still an easy place to get in and out of and the staff are always friendly. I used to live two blocks from Ralph's and shopped there out of convenience. I knew they were expensive and thought that maybe it was typical of all Thriftway stores to be on the high end. I now live in Another city and the nearest grocery store is a Thriftway and guess what?? The prices are actually very affordable for many of the same items. Ralph's jacks there prices up so much!! I also never thought the service was that great. There were a couple of cashiers that were very friendly but everyone else I encountered from the deli to the Starbucks could've used a lesson in customer service. I like this grocery store. I like that they have so many local products that I don't get to see in equivalent grocery stores in Seattle. When I come here, I really like to get the Northwest Cioppino, and the raspberry apple cider that is sold here. They are one of the only stores I have found that carries some of my favorite little-known products, like snøfrisk, garlic kavli, couscous minestrone soup... it is expensive, but I always come across a lot of things here that I have looked for in other places and never found. read more

I'll admit upfront that I visit this store for the fresh oranges and gyros, too good to be true. The oranges remain but the deli doesn't order the gyros as required. The deli has plenty of hard boiled eggs or pickles, and burritos but they don't order the tasty gyros per desired....it's been over five weeks. The store costs a little more but is worth searching for cheaper items, like those gyros. The staff is friend and helpful. But come on...order more of those gyros. The salad bar is a little more expensive than others but is tasty. Worthy for any mid day meal under 3.00. Despite the 10.00 per pound anyone can eat under 5.00 at this establishment. The deli has a great burrito special that is worth attention. I'll be honest, my rating is low due to some of the high prices and lack of stocking high selling items, like those gyros. Prices are cheaper else where if you have a car. Update....I finally have gyros! Four weeks after complaining and about eight weeks after they ran out! I'm in heaven right now! Just a word of warning, read the heating directions correctly! I accidentally read the frozen directions, and still thinking it was wrong, warmed it to those directions. Total waste....a rat in the garbage dump will eat good tonight! Second one was done correctly and a mind note was taken. No longer than one minute 30 is needed. Only place in the area for these gyros....not as good as Gyro spot but for a microwave food it's the best. read more

As far as shopping local I will stick to the farmers market and other smaller local business. I used to love coming here as a child, but there is a stressful shopping environment to anyone who is different here. The increase in local theft hasn't helped, and in many downtown places it now feels like you are being watched and expected to steal. Every time I go in here I regret it, too bad it is soo close to my house. I love bargains, because I can increase the quality of the thing I am purchasing. Let's say I am buying shoes, and I find the perfect pair of shoes marked down from $120 to $45. That's awesome because I get all the benefits of style and comfort that comes with a $120 pair of shoes but I am only out $45. On top of that I feel great because I scored such a sweet deal, I beat the system, I made a great find. This is the opposite of how I feel every time I go to Ralph's. ASSUALTED BY EMPLOYEE Tonight, around 4 am, I woke up with bad allergies and headed to bayview to grab an allergy inhaler. This location is down the street from where I live, and I frequent it multiple times a week. I even bought a full load of groceries on 11/30/2018 around 8 pm. When I walked into the store early in the morning, it was completely empty. The employees who were there made no effort to welcome me, and even tried to hide from me even more. During my time shopping, a heavy set male worker (whom I am more than willing to identify) with balding buzzed black hair (about 30-40 years old) followed me through every aisle. Since it was a strange time in the morning, I assumed this must be protocol, and I understood the suspicion or need for extra security. As I was shopping around, my allergies continued to make it hard for me to breath, so I began to open my allergy inhaler in the store, since I would be buying it shortly. I have done this before with drinks in the store, and have seen no policy posted against this. All of the sudden, the employee who had been following me charged towards me and snatched all of my groceries out of my hands violenjtly. He then proceeded to tell me I need to leave, and that I am never welcome back, and have been caught on camera. I attempted to explain the misunderstanding to him, but he continued to yell over me. This employee physically and verbally assaulted me without any evidence I had intent to steal. I am disgusted by your treatment of loyal employees, and I will be repeating this story to all of my neighbors and facebook friends. I will also be posting it on Yelp, where your negative reviews are abundant. I really wish this wouldn't have happened, I loved this store and really appreciated it's local goods and exceptional prices. The way this employee acted towards a 20 year old girl who was half his size scared me quite a bit, and it makes me sad to think they get paid to profile innocent customers. read more
