It is an older motel, but it's in a great location, close to anywhere in town, and very close to old town Eureka. For what I got for the price, I was very happy. You check in via a remote screen in the lobby, it's still very efficient, and the people on the other end of the screen are very friendly and helpful. As I mentioned, it was an older room, and there were a few chips and Nicks here and there, but that was just cosmetic. There is a desk to eat or work on, plugs to charge my gear, a TV with a good picture, the bathroom was spotless, it had a shower instead of a tub. The shower did not have a grab bar or a shower mat, so you do need to be careful. The bed was very comfortable, and I had a very good nights sleep. The Wi-Fi was fast enough to stream video. The room also had a fridge, a microwave, and a coffee pot. What was especially nice was, I had to leave the hotel after only two nights, because I needed to stay with a sick family member at home. I called Chase who called the hotel, and the hotel agreed to let me cancel after two nights, and they refunded the remaining two nights back to my account. They were very understanding. The room was updated, clean and perfectly provisioned with soap, lotions, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, as well as a Keurig, supplied with coffee, tea and sweetener options. Eggs, turkey & pork sausage pancakes, cinnamon rolls, bagels, toast, fruit, yogurt, cereal, juice and more that I don't remember. The offer onsite laundry room, a pool and jacuzzi and a workout gym. We didn't have a chance to use these but they were available. The parking lot has a brick half wall with a metal fence around the building. We felt safe where we parked, we checked often and never saw anyone snooping around. You will need a room key to get into the side entrance of building. For that reason, you should interpret any criticism I have as not being an issue at other properties. Ok...that said, my new favorite Hilton brand is Home2. Why? Because it has everything I like in a hotel when I travel. First though...a criticism for this property AND Hilton as a whole for not policing it better. During my last five stays, the remote check-in feature on the app did not let me check in and when I tried to check in that way for this property, I received a pop-up telling me it wasn't allowed and that I needed to check in at the front desk. The two people working the front desk denied that the hotel had it set that way, but I'm seeing a trend where the properties are requiring a hard credit card for check in again and not allowing Apple Pay or other variations where a physical card isn't used. They even went so far as to tell me that it was probably like that because my card on file wasn't good...then they promptly asked if I wanted to use my card on file for the stay...which worked perfectly. The bottom line is that Hilton franchises aren't being policed very well by Hilton for this feature, so don't expect to be allowed to remote check-in. Ok...back to what I liked about the property. The rooms were nice and clean...albeit smaller than Hampton rooms of the same type. Each of the rooms we had (we usually have two rooms when we travel) were equipped with a full refrigerator, a microwave, fully functioning sink and a dishwasher. The cabinets had all the dishes we needed too. The pantry was the best I've seen in a hotel of this type. Period. The pool and hot tub were well taken care of and there was also a barbecue section that looked like it was well used by the guests. The only other criticism I have is around parking. They didn't have enough spaces set aside for Diamond members, so parking can be challenging. There were lots of trade people staying there while we stayed and there could not have been less than 20 work vans and trucks - taking up multiple spaces in some cases. That's why I was bummed they didn't have more reserved parking spaces. All in all, it's a nice property and it will be our go-to place when we visit Eureka in the future. Before my husband arrived, I checked Hilton's own website and saw a Hilton Honors rate of approximately $170 before tax with rooms available. He arrived after midnight due to a travel delay and was charged $240 before tax. When we questioned the discrepancy, the manager, Dalila Morales, was extremely rude and dismissive and refused to make any adjustment, insisting that the $170 rate did not exist. To make matters worse, the bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. After many stays at this hotel, this experience was enough to change our opinion completely. I would not recommend this hotel and will not be staying here again.

My wife, her mom, and I spent two nights here as we explored the various parks (national and state) in the area, and found it to be good place to stay. I made the reservation for two nights via Chase Travel, total of $536.06. Holiday Inn is part of the IHG rewards program (which having a CSR credit card will automatically give Platinum Elite status, though it didn't really provide anything additional worth mentioning). One good thing though is that one will earn nights and points through the IHG rewards program, even if booked through an on-line third party travel agency (which usually doesn't happen). Just need to make sure that your rewards number is listed in the reservation (mine wasn't). Another big benefit is that you get a $250 annual credit if using your CSR for a 2+ night stay at an IHG hotel. It has shuttle service to the airport, and we noticed airline employees taking advantage of it. Surface parking is free, with plenty of spots. We noticed a section where rental bikes were available, for those who wanted to ride at the Hammond Costal Trail. Our two queen room was fine, and it was an accessible, meaning the bathroom and front area were very large. It was a shower/tub combo unit and the water pressure was very strong, best we had on the trip. Shampoo and soap were Dove products, which my MiL really liked. Beds were comfortable, the large flat screen TV had a variety of basic cable channels, and a large work desk with a comfortable office chair. A microwave, coffee maker, and small fridge completed the set-up. The room had a modern thermostat, connected to a Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner, which worked well. The hotel does have an indoor pool, guest laundry room, and 24-hour fitness center. The lobby has two Costa Coffee espresso machines, with freshly ground coffee beans. The breakfast/lobby area is decently sized with a nice complementary breakfast in the morning (opens at 6:30), and a section of to-go items for those that want to get an earlier start. Free freshly popped corn was available throughout the day, which my wife took advantage. We were able to take advantage of the full breakfast on the 2nd morning, and I liked the premade Green Chile Egg Chorizo & Cheddar breakfast burritos available. There was no make your own waffle machine; instead, a 'Go Ahead Pan-cake my day' machine that made pretty decent pancakes ("in a minute flat"...l love puns :-).

They had free cookies and popcorn, plus a little complimentary coffee and hot chocolate bar, which after a long day of driving was genuinely appreciated. The woman who checked me in was wonderful--super kind, long gray hair, just a really pleasant person. She even gave me a room with a small balcony view, which was such a nice bonus after being on the road all day. The room itself was clean, modern, and I had zero issues with it. They also offer a complimentary breakfast buffet, which matters more than people admit--there are hotels that cost more than this and don't even offer that. Holiday Inn Express isn't luxurious, and that's not an insult. It's not trying to be. It's clean, comfortable, reliable, and consistently better than you expect. If you must you can have take-out from the decent (but really just townie pub fare) restaurant downstairs but you're in walking distance from some truly great restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, and fabulous bagels. Then again, the downstairs restaurant has one of the better bloody mary's on the planet, although one of the spicy ones. The red velvet Victorian settee in the bay window overlooks the bay and you can watch everything below your floor disappear into the dense fog as you ignore the outside world for the cozy interior and dreamily disappearing exterior.
