Local seafood bar style located in a food market! Must do! You can taste all of Barcelona at this food market. Ramblero has seafood options out for you to select. We tried: oyster - sweet and fresh Lagostine- fresh and perfectly cooked and season. Delicious! I ended up ordering another one! Razor clams - my first time trying this and wow it was fantastic. Chewy and flavorful!! Everything was very fresh and absolutely amazing!! It's a lot going on in term of people and the scene can be intimidating at glance with the amount of people. However, it's a must do and must try. Anything you pick will be the right option!
I loved this place so much we went back again! Now granted, my friends that ate the raw oysters regretted it the next day, but everything else, I highly recommend. Especially the giant prawns! The Great - The Giant Prawns and the food in general (less the raw oysters) The Good - The servers and friendly and on it! The Bad - It's a tight spot and the bar stools are not comfortable. The Ugly - I guess we have to call out the oysters (ha ha) I cannot wait to travel back to BCN for this place. Oh, also, their Sangria was really good and their beer comes in a huge glass!
This place was amazing! We ordered their special which contains calamari, shrimp, lobster, mussels, and tons of other seafood goodies. This was, along with drinks, just roughly above 100 euros. Fresh seafood is hard to come across, specially for the amount of seafood we got for the price. When we come back and visit España, we are definitely coming back to Ramblero.
Honestly you can get much fresher and cheaper seafood by the beach in Barcelona (and it's not that far, and way less touristy), but in a pinch this place still gets the job done if you want a quick snack. Combo seafood platter comes with grilled langoustines, red prawns, white prawns, scallop, razor clams, and a bunch of mussels, with some leafy greens and pickled red cabbage thrown in. It's at the front of the market so has high turnover which I assume means the food is probably as fresh as it gets in this (touristy) market.
The freshest seafood you'll find in Barcelona! Why? Because it is located next to a fish market. As a warning, this place isn't cheap! You'll pay as much to eat here as you would in a nice sit down restaurant in Port Olympic or the Barceloneta neighborhood. But dining here is a unique experience due to the high energy of this amazing market. It's a great experience to get under your belt to eat a hearty lunch here and then roam the market afterward. You can opt for a platter to sample a wide range of seafood fare but in Barcelona speak "seafood platter" means a selection of shellfish not including fish whereas the "fish platter" means no shellfish! Although all the seafood is good here I opted for the razor clams and the "bid red prawns" (which are not included in the "seafood platter". These 2 selections are among the best seafood selections you can opt for in Barcelona.
We love the hustle & bustle of La Boqueria market, so hoped this popular stand would deliver, and they did indeed! Fresh seafood served cold, 'ceviche'd' or fried, none disappointed. We're still salivating remembering the langostas. If sitting at a boisterous counter is your idea of a fun way to discover the bounty of Mediterranean goodies, go!
I really wanted to try the freshly grilled seafood at the Boqueria so we stopped here as they seemed to have the most seafood choices. Our server offered us the seafood platter for 2, which a lot of people seemed to be ordering, but there were lots of shellfish on the platter I didn't eat, so we passed on it. The seafood is quite fresh and all are pretty tasty. However, the prices for the portion sizes are disproportionate. It's also a terrible mess to get a table - ours was wobbly, as were our stools. Our server was nice, but kept hinting over and over about tipping, which is really unprofessional. We ended up tipping a few euros, but definitely didn't think it was earned nor warranted.
Server was very attentive and service was fairly quick. We shared a tapas plate which was delicious. There was a really nice variety. First time having sardines in vinegar and they were delicious. Everything was yummy! Will be back! read more
Total tourist trap. But please, please trap me. I came here with my family on our third day in Barcelona, and the food was delicious. I truly think this is probably a tourist trap, but the menu has English on it, the servers are friendly and all speak English, and the seafood is very fresh and cooked right in front of you. Everything was delicious: the wide array of different grilled, fried, and prepared fish and shellfish make this place really special. Also, I don't think there are that many restaurants in the market where you can just sit down and have a meal, so this place differentiates itself. We totally come back and get trapped again! One of many food stall you'll find in Mercat de la Boqueria. Since we came after 4pm, there weren't as many options opened so we came by here. We just had some drinks to hang for a bit while nibbling on Fried Baby Squid (€12.50). It's pretty pricey and nothing too special, but it's not bad. read more

Two words: Seafood Haven! Walk no further this is the place you should stop & feed yourself full. Photos don't even do it justice. Of all the tantalizing food counters & stalls en Boqueria de Mercat, the Ramblero is top quality seafood & prompt full service. read more

I disagree with the ratings, I got the seafood 1 pack and it was a lot of food for 35 dollars; the seafood quality is really high and the shrimp and mussels are very fresh read more

This establishment deliberately will deceive and fool unwary tourists coming to their store at the Boqueria San Josef in Barcelona. Our bad experience began when we entered the market to meet some tourist friends and this market was our agreed meeting place. As soon as we came near their restaurant, they did some hard selling to us to buy their mixed seafood platter. They said that one platter is good for two persons. We were not hungry then having had a heavy snack shortly before coming to this place to meet our other tourist companions. We eventually gave in to their hard sell but stressed to the waitress that we will order just one mixed seafood platter at 40 Euros per platter. They delivered the platter which had actually very little seafood lying under a huge bed of potatoes and vegetables. It was expensive but anyway we thought we ordered just one platter. The person who took our order identified herself as Gigi. But when we finished our meal and ask for the bill, another waiter came out with a bill charging us for two platters. We then asked for Gigi, our waitress who took our order to clarify that we only ordered one platter. The waiter said, it is her break time and she left the place. So we were stuck paying 80 Euros. This is their sleazy way of gouging tourists. I have a picture of Gigi included here for tourists to be wary of her and this establishment. read more

Price is average and not expensive for the quality of the food. A great seafood mixed plate for 2 at 60 €. Very fresh oysters (total of 6) is 9€ . White wine is good 7€ for 2. You are welcome by friendly staff. However, if you like to select squids or oysters by plate, you can do. I actually prefer it because I don't like muscles (each plate is about 8-16 €). read more
We were walking around the Gothic quarter and stumbled upon a very unique fish market. Surrounding me were various booths selling different kinds of seafood. It was very refreshing to sense the freshness all around me. Little did I know, we stumbled upon The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, often simply referred to as La Boqueria, which is a large public market in the Ciudad Vieja district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Anyway, Ramblero caught our eye and we head towards it. It was like a mini restaurant situated within the fish market. They had display glasses to highlight dishes they make, but it was very small and there were no seats available. We inquired about a sit down restaurant to the lady hostess, and to our surprise, the lady said there was one and promptly took us there. We walked for about 10 minutes and finally reached our destination. The restaurant was located in a labyrinthine street plan, with many small streets opening out into squares. It was an amazing experience. Now this review is for the food in the restaurant. As many Yelpers have written, this place is pricey but worth the money. For appetizers, we ordered fresh olives, bread and chorizo sausage slowly cooked in red wine. Olives were marinated well and had a very tangy taste to it. The bread had tomato sauce on it which I found interesting. Being half Italian, we love to dunk our bread into tomato sauce. The chorizo sausage was a bit too salty for me, but overall it was pretty satisfactory. For our main course, we shared the Seafood Paella. This was definitely the highlight of the experience. The prawns were huge and fresh. The sauce was spectacular and the paella was cooked very well. We also learned how to eat paella as before you dig in to eat, you have to make sure you mixed it all very well. Put the prawns and bigger seafood aside and just keep mixing it for a minute. The ambiance was beautiful and romantic. Although the restaurant was small, it gave it that intimate feeling. read more
There's limited seating but they seat you FAST. It's quick service but they don't skimp out on being friendly! :) I discovered what razor clams were today and my eyes have been opened. Hence: razor clams are a must (the long skinny clams). We got the patatas bravas (skip this since it's overpriced and it's nothing special), gambas (shrimp... also good but if I came back, I'd skip), and anchovies (the onions on it were yummy). read more

Woooor...... this place was good. Tapas and fresh seafood, displayed in the counter... the wife and I ordered the seafood plate for 1, and added 2 large shrimps (dude, 8 euro per shrimp €€€) ThaT one plate of seafood, and 2 large shrimps was enough food for 2 people (maybe 3)... It is a outdoor market place with only counter seating but definitely should try... don't know what to order??? The friendly staff will help you out ... Go for it !!! read more

La Ramblero is a bar & restaurant inside the La Mercat Boquerio in Barcelona, Spain. It presents fresh seafood including lobsters and some giant prawns. Alcohol is plentiful. Staff is friendly and inviting. It is inside the market so the ambiance is unique and nearly impossible to duplicate. It is all casual seating with stools lined up around like a bar. When one has walked through the market which presents the best fishes of the sea and fruits of the land, then this restaurant/bar is a good place to relax and soak up the atmosphere. The Garlic Prawns are king size and out of this world. Red prawns were so sweet and the dash of garlic just puts them atop of everything else. We will eat here again next year. read more

In the middle of la boqueria, busy at lunch time try 2.30/3pm for a little quieter, recommend the peppers and aubergine with mountain cheese, bigger portions then usual. Get a seat next to the kitchen which is very fun to watch. 2 people, 4 tapas (inc bread), 2 beers, €41. read more

The seafood plate I ordered is very big, a lot food, me and my friend could not finish the whole order. Everything in the plate taste very fresh, like from the dock to the kitchen. Service is good too. The only thing is the food is a little bit oily. read more
We were walking around the market and saw other people order the seafood platter. We love seafood! So we had to try. The seafood is fresh and the portions are good (but the cost is 33€ for their 1 person platter which we shared). They make you order a second dish because if you want 2 seats then 2 dishes, 1 dish = 1 seat. We ordered the baby squid as well which was delicious with their dip (10€). We also ordered 2 beers which are 3€ each. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and were so full and satisfied at the end! read more

21 & 22 May 2018 - 2 nights in Barcelona. The second evening we attempted LaBoqueria but were too hungry to wait. The server took us a few blocks away to their restaurant which served the same tapas so we decided to venture out of LaBoqueria. It was much quieter and cozy sitting comfortably in their restaurant instead of standing at a stall begging to be served. We had grilled padron peppers very tasty not a single HOT one and were similar taste to grilled shishitos. We could eat a bucket full. Estrella is their local brand of beer and luckily was on tap not canned. Olives were very fresh and tasty. The razor clams were delightful as well. The garlic shrimp with wild mushrooms were very tasty and again we can eat a bucket full of those. The service was very quick and pleasant with no language barriers. We still had a difficult time not tipping but still left a few euro. read more

Good food, rude service. This place is near the entrance of La Boqueria which is filled with tourists. They have a great selection of seafood that is mostly grilled. The giant gambo shrimp were delicious juicy and full of flavor. However the service was rude, every server tried to sell their lobsters since it was the most expensive item at 60 euros. They are really pushy even when you say you don't want it which is annoying. The grilled peppers are good too. The raw oysters aren't good here, not cold be very oceany. I'd only come back for the shrimp and then go to Pinxoto read more

Great place to try in Boqueria. The seafood is fresh and you can pick t out yourself. I have the seafood platter for 1 (which 2 can definitely share because it's huge) also the squid with potatoes is to die for. Just the right amount of flavor and spice. read more

Usually we eat at Quim de la Boqueria, but to our dismay it was closed. So we tried Ramblero out of sheer hunger and proximity...holy guacamole. Pretty sure I found a new fave! The eggs with jamon were perfect. The potatoes were soft but crispy, the eggs nice and runny, the addition of a few blistered patron peppers was the best surprise. I am not even a huge jamon fan and I fell in love with this dish. Tried it in 2 other spots over the next couple days and neither of them even came close to this quality. The grilled squids were also delicious and served with really fresh salad. So glad it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. read more
