Service was fine, but definitely felt rushed for a slow night. Food wasn't the greatest, but not terrible. Dumplings dough wasn't cooked all the way and there was very minimal filling. I'm not sure if they make their own then freeze them, or use pre-made, but I wasn't too impressed. They also didn't provide a spoon for the ramen, nor did they offer after food was dropped. I'm a ramen girly and I love trying new ramen restaurants! This was highly recommended to me by a coworker of mine. I went with two of my girlfriends and we were slightly disappointed. We ordered the broccolini and cucumbers as appetizers. The broccolini was such a disappointment. I pictured a lot of whipped tofu in this dish & chili crisp and it had neither. The broccolini was also in like 3 large chunks so we weren't even able to really share it or cut it. We did ask for a knife but they weren't able to bring us one. Would have been nice for this to be cut up a little more to be able to eat this. We did enjoy the shoyu cucumbers. They were a lot smaller than I was also picturing but they were pretty good! One of my friends ordered the Shio Ramen and she said she really liked the flavor of the ramen broth and texture of the house-made noodles. She wishes the egg was cut in half but really liked how the egg was cooked. Two of us ordered the vegetarian ramen with regular house noodles with an added egg. I loved the egg as well, but do wish it was cut in half. This made it a little awkward to eat because I only had chopsticks so cutting it was a little tricky. My dish came with very little chili crisp so it was very bland. I ended up asking for soy sauce just to add to my broth to give is some kind of flavor. It didn't help much. My friend had a little bit more chili crisp in her dish. I did like the noodles. Thought it was odd that all dishes didn't come with an egg, usually the vegetarian ones don't because they're more vegan friendly so that didn't seem uncommon for me to add an egg to my dish, but my friend that ordered the Shio Ramen thought hers would have automatically come with an egg. This ramen spot is located in 9th and is a great option for really good ramen! The Tonkotsu broth was rich, creamy and had lots of Umami flavor. We also got the TanTan which was a great option too. The ramen noodles were cooked perfectly and I loved the all around flavor of both broths. My only complaint was that towards the end both broths seemed too salty but it still tasted good! The ambiance was great and I loved the decorations inside. You order from your phone through a QR code which I've noticed a lot of other restaurants doing too. I do miss talking to a waiter and ordering the usual way but ordering through your phone is a good option too. read more

First time coming here. Came right before it got busy. But unfortunately they were out of most of the ramen items and some appetizers. I ended up getting the pork shoyu- and added an egg to it. The noodles were good and broth was light. Wish there were more topping options. Also got the shoyu elk bison. Meat was very tender and the wonton it had in it was delicious. Broth was the same as the other dish. Overall place had good service and food was good. Just wish they weren't out of most of the items I wanted to try. TLDR: This place was good, and we'll probably come back to try more dishes. My wife and I heard good things, so we wanted to check it out. We got the Truffle Chicken Paitan and the Triple Threat Shoyu ramen. Both were very good and umami. The house-made noodles were definitely one of the highlights as they had the perfect al dente texture. One thing we wished was better was the temperature. It was fairly warm to begin with, but quickly got colder as we ate. It's possible that that was due to the fact that we came right at opening. As far as service goes, our server did a good job at checking in on us. We asked for a table instead of a counter, and they were happy to seat us at the table instead. The restaurant and seating area are small, so be aware. It was well-kept and clean if not a little chilly (on an especially cold January day). Ramen Ichizu is my personal favorite ramen spot of all time -- any state in the US, anywhere. I've been eating Chef Mike's ramen since his only shop was Hana! One thing that I really like about his ramen, especially the style he serves up at Ramen Ichizu, is how often I can find myself wanting it. By that I mean, many ramen places I can only eat every once in awhile, because ramen in the US is typically very rich, strong, salty, etc, which are not bad things necessarily, but it's an every once in awhile affair. Every bowl I have from Ramen Ichizu is light, easy on my stomach, and so fulfilling. I have come for different popups with creators from Japan, and different specials, but my favorite has got to be their Shoyu. Right now my favorite is specifically the Elk Shoyu. Before I ate their shoyu, I actually hated shoyu ramen as a whole, and only stuck to tonkotsu (mostly that's the only good style you can get at the places I've been). Shoyu in many places tastes way too salty, and is way too dark/soy sauce heavy for my taste, but I can tell that Ramen Ichizu makes theirs specially and authentically by hand, to the point where it actually changed shoyu from being my least favorite to my most favorite type of ramen (as long as it's theirs!) I love the cute little shop. It's my favorite place to come in to grab a simple bite before going to the movies. I always love sitting at the bar so I can watch them cook up the ramen. Earlier, service could be a little slow, but ever since they switched to using Toast tab it's been a breeze. Even before that, I was always willing to wait for a bowl. To me, the price they charge compared to other ramen shops is reflective of the quality craftsmanship of the dish, with every part cooked from scratch. It's more than worth it to me! We've gone here twice now, and both times have been amazed that a place like this can exist in utah. The ramen is simple and focuses on ingredients and craftsmanship, true to japanese form, but they'll often take a unique spin on things like an elk broth with rare elk chashu topping (which i think has become a permanent menu item). I wish I'd taken a photo of the store menu, but they were out of the first 4 menu items due to a supposed lack of sufficient preparation of broth from the chef before they went on vacation (that's what was explained to us). Those 4 items are pretty standard ramen options (e.g. shoyu, shio) and the elk one! We were not informed till we had been seated for a while and ordered drinks. A sign at the door right as customers walked in would have made a huge difference. So basically we're forced to order the more specialty (aka more expensive) ramens. We ended up getting the duck ramen and gyoza. Note that the marinated eggs don't come with the ramen, you have to add on. Granted, those were good ramen eggs. I would not recommend the gyoza. Small, kinda burnt, not very tasty. The duck ramen was disappointing. 2 very tiny pieces of (tasty) duck. That's it. The portion was small. I did think the noodles and broth were good, but not enough to overcome the disappointment of the measly duck portions. Our server was good. Although she forgot to inform us about the menu outage earlier...but she tried to make up for it later, so overall we're grateful to her. The lack of ramen options speaks more to poor restaurant management. Overall, we left with compounding disappointment. read more

I was so excited to try this place out since hearing only great things from a fellow Yelp Elite. However, this didn't live up to expectations. What's good: the ramen is pretty tasty and is not overly salty at all (which I love). They also have more protein options to choose from. What's not so good: the service...honestly this was one of the few times where a bad service ruined the meal--we put in our order but couldn't get anyone to bring out our beer, even after asking for it twice...we were just ignored. And what's worse is that the shop was practically empty when we were there (only one other table with 2 guests). Food-wise, the potstickers were a bit doughy and the duck (in my ramen) were chewy and I had to spit it out at the end. Portion is smaller than most ramen out there and price is a bit higher (wouldn't be an issue at all on its own, but in combo with other things I mentioned, it's not great.) Anyways, glad we tried this for ourselves but not sure if we'd come back... side note, personal pet peeve (as a good tipper), why do business owner feels the need to stand/hover over our table and watch us like a hawk when we pay + select the tip on the card reader machine? The chicken and duck slices were so soft and tender, same kind of consistency as sous vide poultry. The marinated egg was well seasoned and had a perfect, jammy yolk. The wontons were ok, I would skip it next time only because I got more wonton skin than meat, and it really wasn't necessary to add. Oh, and we got the Shoyu Cucumbers too. We came today for the Monday special: Truffle Shoyu (Smoked Pork, Duck, Bison). A very delicious dish- the truffle was light but still flavorful. The pork, duck, bison were a bite or two in size- all had unique intricate flavors that really brought the ramen together. The meal was prepared quickly and all dishes were hot. Ichizu blew me away--hands down one of the best ramen spots I've had in the U.S. The Tokusei Shoyu Ramen was the star: super clean, balanced broth with depth and zero salt overload. You can tell it's made from scratch, not a premix. The trio of chashu (each different cut and prep) was beautifully done--tender, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The egg had that perfect soft center, not overly seasoned but just right. Even the menma (bamboo shoots) had that nice bite and flavor. We also got the pickled cucumber--super crisp with great flavor, and the gyoza, which tasted homemade in the best way. Light char on the crust, juicy filling. The karaage was decent--light seasoning and crunchy skin, but it didn't stand out as much as the ramen or gyoza. Only one server was working the floor, so respect to him for managing orders, tables, and cleaning with grace. It did get busy, but the vibe stayed calm and customers seemed understanding. If you're a ramen fan, Ichizu is a must-visit. You can tell there's passion behind the bowl. read more

I really wanted to like this spot, seen some good reviews on IG. I love ramen. But not this ramen. It was a slow lunch hour, there were only two tables seated, lunch for two and was seated at the bar. I asked to love to a table instead. Their signature ramen is an elk ramen, I was offended to see this on the menu but ended up trying it since it's their signature. The broth was oily/greasy. The strong gamy flavor does not work in ramen. I'd consider going back to try a more traditional bowl, but we'll see. Some things I liked is they make their own noods, they were fresh, thin, and chewy. You can also do add ons, I had to try the duck chashu, that was really good. Also ordered the kaarage and dumplings, they were both ok. They have an interesting menu that drew me to it, like the donburi. So much potential here read more

WOW. JUST INCREDIBLE RAMEN!!!!!!! We went last Friday for their pop up with one of the best ramen chefs in all of Japan, and we were so excited to go!!! I will say, the line was pretty crazy; we got in line at 5:20 pm, dinner opened at 6:30, and we were almost the last people they guaranteed dinner! We finally got inside around 9:20, and were done eating at 9:45 pm, so we had a great time spending my whole Friday night here!! Besides the line, the ramen was actually incredible: they put so much effort into every single bowl, I watched them spritz what I think was a key lime on each bowl, like wow they really cared about each bowl equally, and their were so many small flavor profiles, it was truly delicious! The space is small, but it's very nice at night! The lady running the whole thing was very good at her job, she was running back and forth talking to customers waiting in line, seating people, and even serving bowls to customers, great job! Overall, I would totally recommend this place, but maybe just on a non weekend day when they don't have an event happening! Please come here!! read more

We stayed in downtown Salt Lake City prior to heading out to Grand Teton and Yellowstone NP. We were craving for Japanese food and found this police on Yelp and decided to give it a try. It's a fairly new place....opened a few months ago. The place is small, so, be ready to wait outside if it's full. They don't allow folks to wait inside. They have an upstairs that is still under construction. It's ip kitchen so it's pretty cool to see them prep the dishes. We ordered the everything ramen- which comes with an egg, 3 slices of meat, and few bamboo. I wish they had add more bamboo and more options to select. Ramen was delicious!! We also ordered the fried rice...it comes with an egg. OMG...it's a plain dish but soooo delicious! It's packed with flavors and the egg was just the cream of the crop. I hope as they evolve over time, they'll consider adding more options to their menu. I also hope that they'll add another staff or two...because the hostess multitasking (seating, prepping the dishes, checking out for payment, etc.) which can slow down the overall service delivery. But overall, two thumbs up. We'll be back again if we're every in town! read more

I really wanted to like this place, but it was disappointing. The service was poor and awkward, with the host/server making me feel like a bother. The menu was an inconvenience. They don't allow modifications, which is fine, but the menu doesn't list what's in the different ramen options. This forced the server to explain every different ramen to each table individually, which felt inefficient. For example, the Tokusei Ramen says "all toppings" in parentheses, but nowhere does it clarify what those toppings actually are. If you don't allow modifications, shouldn't the customer know what each ramen comes with? The food was underwhelming. The noodles had good thickness but were slightly overcooked. The gyoza looked crispy but was oddly soggy. The tantan ramen flavor was okay but nothing memorable. Also, instead of napkins, the tables have Kleenex, which felt strange and impractical. Finally, the payment process was frustrating. The server brought the machine to the table, but I wasn't shown an itemized receipt--just the total amount. After I paid, I expected to be asked if I wanted a receipt copy, but instead, the server pressed "no" for me and whisked the machine away. read more

Totally spectacular ramen in central 9th from the chef behind Hana Ramen in Park City! We got to talk with him briefly and he is super cool...and REALLY knows how to cook ramen. The menu is limited because every single option is high quality. Handmade noodles and perfectly balanced broth. Don't forget to add an egg; these are PERFECT with a deliciously gooey inside. Also highly recommend trying one of the mini donburi bowls as you wait for your ramen. They also have a special menu focusing on ramen from specific areas of Japan on Monday nights if you are feeling adventurous! A few things to be aware of: - there is limited seating, so quite a line can form outside at peak times (including in the cold); it does move faster than you would think because most parties eat their ramen then go! -the waitstaff is generally very young; while kind, the service has sometimes been a bit awkward and/or they have forgotten to bring us items we have ordered; not a big deal generally (but probably better for a casual time with friends than someone you are trying to impress) -not a place for drinks, dessert, etc. Ambiance is okay but nothing to write home about. My boyfriend and I came during one of their soft opening nights. I really wanted to give them 5 stars but there were just a couple of things that left a little more to be desired. The space is intimate and the service was nice. The water is self-serve at a water dispenser. When I used the bathroom it was a little bit dirty and it was out of hand soap, which was a little concerning. When it comes to the food, the shio ramen and shoyu ramen both had great flavor. The noodles also had good texture and are made in-house. However, I found my shio ramen to be a little bit too salty which made it harder to eat. I had to keep stopping to drink more water between bites. My boyfriend's shoyu ramen wasn't quite as salty, and we both like that one more than the shio. The pork was yummy but a little stingy. Of the three slices of pork in my shio ramen, one of them was so thin that it was definitely 1/2 the size of what it should have been. I also really wished they had included soft boiled eggs. My boyfriend and I also agreed that the prices were steep. The ramen was great, but for what you are getting, $18 per bowl with small amounts of meat and no egg felt expensive. We both felt that $13-14 a bowl was more appropriate. However, I know the chef cooked these with a lot of care and attention to detail and since this is a soft opening, perhaps the prices are higher for now before they scale. Nonetheless, I would be happy to come back in the future because their food is good and I want them to be successful. I look forward to their grand opening and more menu items to be released. Came here for lunch on a Friday because we got sucked into the hype. We came right at opening to ensure we got a table but realized it wasn't necessary as there was just one other person there. Already the second I walked in it was a weird vibe, not because of the small location but with at least 5 people in the open kitchen not one person looked up and acknowledged me. My friend mentioned we had to self serve our water, this was never relayed to me by the staff. The place felt cold with no music and a small dining area and bar seating. We all ordered the everything ramen to make it easy. Our server, the girl in a lot of the restaurant's reels on IG, was very cold this is in stark contrast to her persona in the videos so it was a bit surprising. My friend asked her for a bowl so she could feed her son some fried rice but after two times of reminding her she had to go to the counter herself and get it. Although we were the second table to be seated it still took a while before our orders arrived so I can't imagine how slow it would be with a rush. The ramen broth was nice and light and I loved the texture of the fresh ramen noodles however, there was a slice of meat in there that was absolutely inedible. It was not only impossible to chew but it had such a strong liver smell and taste. We all had to discard it. What bothered me the most was when my friend requested a to go container bc her toddler son couldn't finish his friend rice she pretty rudely stated they don't do to go bc they don't want people to complain about the food bc the quality is not the same when their food is taken to go. I understand not taking to-go orders but that shouldn't apply to those not wanting to waste their food. She kept interrupting us saying it was posted on the menu and wall but again we understood it as not filling to go orders. Asking for a box to take leftovers does not negate the fact that the food was already enjoyed and such the quality was already appreciated at the restaurant. Having people pay a significant amount of money for food for their toddler when there's no kids menu then expect the remaining portion to be wasted. I understand if this was clearly stated but the attitude and rudeness was uncalled for. In general service was extremely cold, the owner I Believe did come by to help drop off the food and he seemed friendly enough but reserved. I went here for dinner just the other week and was sad to see that it was just another hipsterish ramen joint. The food was overpriced the gyoza was decent but the worst part of it was how little amount of ramen they give you. They also got my order wrong and brought out someone else's food to me and I don't like ordering system that makes you keep a card on file while waiting for your food. Best authentic, traditional, handmade ramen in town! If you're looking for quality ramen, then this is the spot for you! The attention to detail is impressive. The noodles are made from scratch using organic flours from Hokkaido, Korea, and Utah. They use all local pasture chicken. They remove the minerals from the water to provide the purest product. Even the sesame seed oil is made from scratch for the tantanmen. All non-GMO, no preservatives, and no MSG. The owner trained in Japan, this is the real deal. My favorites are the tantanmen (I love spicy) and the triple threat shoyu. Absolutely love the handmade noodles here and the broth is SO flavorful! Shio, tsukemen (dipping ramen), mazesoba, even a vegan ramen are also available. Excellent ramen spot and it's so awesome to see SLC upping the food scene.
