Umami Ramen
Rafael D.

Happen to find this spot by chance, I wish I would've known about this three years ago. I got the umami Ramen spicy. It took me back to when I was stationed in Iwakuni Japan. The authenticity in the broth, the tenderness of the sliced pork what a phenomenal bowl of Ramen. The Gyoza were out of bounds! I could've ate at least five plates! Staff were very nice and courteous. Great environment.

Great ramen place next to Uwajimaya Beaverton. The broths were rich & delicious and their chashu is so tasty. The only small downside was the ramen texture. It was not bad but I had better "al dente" bouncing texture. Service is very quick & friendly. Definitely give them a try if you are in the area.

Vegetarian ramen with mayu

My fiancé loves this place but every time I come here and order the vegetarian ramen, I get minor food poisoning. The most recent time in April, it was more intense food poisoning with nausea, fever etc. My friend also had an upset stomach in April, it's possible that the black garlic oil (mayu) is not fresh.

Loved the basic simple to the point menu and the variety. I ordered the pork gyoza and spicy ramen with shoyu broth which was great. It was not spicy but had flavor. Service was super fast and ambience was fun! All in all I can go try other broths but wish they had pork broth!

So yummy!! I am a big ramen fan and this hit the spot. I will say that I had some trouble reading the menu. Everything looks pretty similar and you have to know the difference between a shoyu, shio, etc. I asked the server what I should get if I like tonkotsu and she recommended me a bowl. It was simple and inexpensive but so yummy!! Usually there is a wait here but we didn't wait long. Will come back! Okay so funny story, like 8 years ago I thought I hated ramen and my whole family went without me while I pouted and waited. I regret that. I was dumb.

Food here is so good! Not a big menu or a big place, the gyoza are delicious and the staff are fast and friendly . Line can get long during peak hours, but it's worth it. Definitely recommend this place.

Today we didn't wait to get in and it has been a while since I've been in but all the food was so delish and the employees were so nice to us on this trip. They expanded their menu (maybe?) and now they have a small curry dish you can get and it's sooooo good.

Tasty ramen. Quick service and the food was on the table in under 6 minutes. (Note: after the half hour wait list.) Ambiance is bustling, this location is next to the Uwajimaya and lots of people are excited to eat! Maybe try to catch them at an off hour to avoid the wait.

Cant believe I've never knew or visited this spot!!! Small ramen shop next to Uwajimaya market and smaller space with limited tables or bar seating but huge on delicious umami!!! Noodles were great and imported from Hawaii!! Miso basic ramen broth was sooo soothing and tasty!! Only $11.50 but not basic in flavor or taste....Absolute steal for that price!!! Los tried the curry added the spicy meat and so glad I did!!! The beef in curry was unfortunately tough and not tender but ok overall? Highly recommended and definitely recommend going online to place make on waitlist before you arrive...Very popular spot and so always a line of people waiting!

First time here since I went to Uwajimaya. Friendly staff. Everyone was really nice and answered all my questions with the different spicy ramen. I got the one level spicy ramen. It has good broth and I love the wavy noodles. The setting is restaurant is dark but it feels close knit. There was no wait and I sat by the bar since I like sitting away from people. The slice of pork was ok. But I enjoyed the spicy ground pork ! May come back if around town and craving a nice noodle soup!

Spicy umami miso ramen with gluten free noodles.

I love their spicy umami miso ramen with gluten free noodles. The GF noodles taste like gluten ones! Their ramen is very reasonably-priced, and an added bonus is that you can shop right next door afterwards. I'm from a suburb of LA where it's 20% Japanese and this place might be the best ramen I've ever had!

Hey, ramen in Beaverton is a thing. Here is a quaint little ramen place attached to a Japanese grocery store called Uwijimaya. They have a decent selection of ramen. I chose to try the miso with butter - ala Sapporo ramen. This is comforting ramen in the winter. The service was good and overall a nice place to get ramen.

I shop at Uwajimaya but never ate here because of the wait. Finally happened to get done shopping when they opened at 11AM and was seated right away. Got the deluxe with shoyu for $16.20 and here is how it scored: Presentation: 5/5 pretty much the classic Ramen noodles: 5/5 really nice chew and slurp Shoyu Broth: 3/5 good but not as complex as the best Ajitama: perfectly executed 5/5 Pork: cold, dry and tough, probably because they just opened but sad 2/5 Service: pretty good 4/5 Value: 4/5 unfortunately inflation has hit ramen and a bowl is over $20 at some venues. It was a mixed bag for me but will definitely eat here again. For PDX, it's in the top 3.

Kind of random but is there soy oil in the broth? Just wondering if it's soy or the natural oil from the pork It is delicious broth but a bit thinner than traditional ramen…

Great question!! No we do not use soy oil in the broth. It will be the natural fat coming from both the pork belly as well as the pork bones. Glad you enjoyed it!

Is there an option for gluten free noodles?

Yes, they have a Shirataki, also known as Konjac noodle option. It is very delicious.

When did you open this restaurant?

July 3, 2016

Are the ramen noodles gluten free or is there a substitute option?

We use wheat based noodles and unfortunately do not have a gluten substitute option.

Is that possible order ramen noodle without pork broth?

Our Shoyu and Shio ramen are available with a konbu (seaweed) broth. They are listed as the Vegan/Pescetarian Ramen on our menu.

The inside decor was popping with red and cool light designs on the walls. There were only 2 people working there when we went doing their best while still being very friendly and helpful. I used my birthday reward ($15) to get the Spicy Miso ramen with pork, and my hubby got the TanTan Ramen with chicken. Our kids enjoyed the Kids Shoyu ramen with tofu that came with a Japanese strawberry milk candy as a treat. Both ramen were on the saltier side but the spice levels were legit. The soft boiled egg was actually perfect but the potstickers were greasy and were slightly bland. It didn't feel right to me to pay $5 for a taco but I was intrigued by their flavor profiles. I saw that they have Taco Tuesday deals ($3 tacos), lunch specials ($15 for ramen, taco and drink) and an amazing Wednesday family dinner deal ($30 for 2 adult ramens, 2 kid ramens, and 2 tacos) so we will be back to hit up one of those soon for sure!

The lady who took our order was attentive and quick. The kitchen people carefully brought the food, and attitude was polite. I wasn't sure whether hot tea would be an extra cost and got ice water. Portion was normal, tons of vegetables and FOUR slices of chashu meat, which I was already amazed. Soup was thick but not salty at all. Aji tama was perfect. The price is reasonable ($12 per bowl, no matter what favors of soup bases). The front line people always made sure to keep the bar table clean. It really reminds me of family own ramen shops in Japan. Thanks for the delicious food. We want to come back again for different spicy levels of ramen, as well as the appetizers.

A Ramen Masterclass in Beaverton! If you are looking for…read morethat perfect, soul-warming bowl of noodles, Koku Ramen & Bites in Beaverton is an absolute gem. It's located in the Timberland Town Center and manages to perfectly balance a modern, trendy vibe with authentic, traditional flavors. Here is why it's a 5-star standout for me: The Broth (The Soul of the Bowl): I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen, and the broth was incredible--creamy, rich, and clearly simmered for hours. It has that deep, milky consistency that only comes from true craft. If you like heat, the Spicy Miso has a perfect, layered kick that doesn't just overpower your taste buds. The Noodles: They get the texture exactly right. You can choose your firmness, and they have that perfect "chew" that holds onto the broth beautifully. The "Bites": True to their name, the appetizers (bites) are not to be skipped. The Pork Gyoza are perfectly seared, but the Karaage (Japanese Fried Chicken) is the real winner--juicy on the inside and impossibly crunchy on the outside. The Chashu: The braised pork belly is melt-in-your-mouth tender. They give it a quick torch sear before serving, which adds a beautiful smoky aroma to the whole bowl. The Vibe: The restaurant is clean, sleek, and has a great energy. The staff is welcoming and incredibly fast, making it a perfect spot for a quick lunch or a cozy dinner. Pro Tip: Don't forget to add a Marinated Soft-Boiled Egg (Ajitama). They cook them to perfection here with that jammy, custard-like yolk that takes the ramen to the next level. Beaverton has a lot of food options, but Koku is easily at the top of my list for comfort food. I'll be back again and again!
