Solid ramen spot! Today's rainy day craving was ramen - obviously. So we decided to try out a new spot, Ramen Ryoma. Upon arrival there was a bit of a wait but we just had to put our name on the tablet and the front and wait for our table. We only had to wait around 5 minutes so pretty fast considering how busy it was. After ordering we waited less than 10 minutes to get everything we had ordered. I went with my go-to, a spicy miso ramen. The broth was flavorful and warm with just the right amount of spice. The pork was super tender and had great flavor. I often visit the Portland location of Ramen Ryoma, but this was my first time at the Beaverton location next to Uwajimaya. This restaurant is connected to the Japanese grocery store, Uwajimaya. I love their relatively thicker noodles with a slightly different texture. I ordered the mayu miso ramen. While I generally enjoy Ramen Ryoma's rich broth, the addition of mayu (burnt garlic oil) made the soup too heavy and oily for my taste. Additionally, their mayu lacked the distinct burnt garlic aroma. Without the mayu, their ramen soup is excellent, and the spicy option is also great. The chashu and tamago are tender and good by Portland standards, but not exceptionally outstanding. The servers are generally nice, and our server was particularly knowledgeable, offering great recommendations on soup bases and additional topping options. There was a wait, but the line moved quickly thanks to the fast turnover and efficient servers. The store is pretty spacious, so overall it was very comfortable lunch. read more

For every bad experience I have at a portland restaurant five other places more than makes up for it and I absolutely love this ramen restaurant for being one of those places. Starting with the greeting at the door each visit and how the waiter always seems to know exactly when to ask for my drink or food order, this place is perfect. Day two of our itinerary placed us at Ramen Ryoma for dinner. My family (including myself) are huge fans of ramen, especially during the cold weather seasons. Therefore, we were excited about seeing how ramen is done in Beaverton. With our appetite's in tow, we stepped out on a chilly evening en route to Ramen Ryoma. Upon entering the establishment, we placed ourselves on the waiting list via the tablet that greeted us at the entrance (sadly I feel like this will slowly become the trend as we move away from interacting with a human being). As we waited, we took in the cozy environment and patrons enjoying joy-filled conversations (I'm nosey) over their warm bowls of ramen. Less than five minutes later we were being greeted and seated by an employee. As I mentioned earlier, this was a highly anticipated trip; therefore, we had already made our menu selections during our ride to the restaurant. My wife and I ordered two of the "killer spicy" and my son ordered the "tamago mayu ramen." Roughly eight minutes later our piping hot orders were being delivered to our tables. As expected, our orders were delicious. So delicious that we decided to take it for the road so that we could enjoy it in the comfort (not to say that the restaurant was uncomfortable) of our Airbnb while we watched Upload (I highly recommend this show). We put our name down on the Yelp Waitlist ans waited for about 20 mins for a table of three. The inside is cozy with lots of wooden furniture. Our staff was nice and friendly. Our ramens came out super fast. I got the Tamago Mayu with Shoyu Broth. It's decent. Maybe shoyu broth is not my jam but I can't help but feel that the downtown location does a better job with the ramen there. My bowl was rather lukewarm. The noodles tasted like they've been cooked beforehand. Egg was overcooked as well. Chashu was nice but much smaller than what they give you downtown.
