This last time I went I got the Oregon Deluxe, one of my go-to's. This basil pesto ramen is very unique and I love the unique flavor it has. The most darling ramen shop decked out in so many cute toys and nods to Japan. A total vibe! We got their Pork Gyoza to start and I opted for their Ka-re Deluxe (Curry Ramen). Super solid gyoza! The perfect way to warm up my tummy. As for the Curry Ramen, I was sooo pleasantly surprised. I've had a lot of curry udon, but never curry ramen, so this was a first! It features their signature Japanese pork curry broth with house-made umami oil and is topped with meat, green onion, kikurage mushroom, crunch onion, corn, bamboo shoot,and half of an egg. It seems like this place's food quality has been declining rapidly as it has become more popular and busier. The consistency just isn't there anymore. During my last three visits, the karaage came out burnt and dry, they forgot to add the egg to my ramen, and the fried rice was extremely oily and salty--nothing like what they used to serve. While the service has never been particularly friendly, the food was always good enough to keep me coming back. However, if they can no longer maintain the quality they once offered, I'm not sure it's worth taking the risk of visiting again. read more

Came here for lunch and got seated quickly. The interior is decorated cute, but the corner we got put in was very cramped. We were right against the backs of other customers and had no room to move. We got started with chicken karaage, which was fine, I enjoyed the sauce that it came with. We had decided on ordering the fuddo yama deluxe and the red miso deluxe. Both claim to come with additional toppings, however I found the distribution to be uneven. The fuddo yamma deluxe had lots of bamboo shoots and other toppings, but the pork that it came with was essentially all fat. The broth was very milky and we found it to be overly salty. Tonight, I came to Fuddo yama Ramen & Izakaya, which is located 4 minutes from my hotel. There are plenty of free parking lots around the store. As soon as I entered the store, the staff talked to me and I sat down. It's my first time here, but the store is decorated with many nostalgic Japanese items. The music is also a familiar hit song, and I can't help but hum it. Loll I asked the staff about the popular ramen and ordered cha-shu fried rice. Fuddo yama delax ramen has a lot of ingredients and the taste is just right, so it was good that the noodles were firm. After eating ramen, I was full and took home the fried rice. The decor here is pretty but I'm finding some of the care going into the food is very questionable from the kitchen. I've been here 3 times to test this theory with different groups of friends. I have had curry so many times in my life and even in Japan countless times. This is disappointing to write. All 3 times food was served extremely lukewarm, barely tepid. Almost cold one time. The curry sauce here is made with pureed almost minced chicken meat into the sauce, hence the grainy texture. The sauce isn't anything amazing? It feels like it's lacking flavor. The rice came out mushy everytime, why is a Japanese place making mushy short grain rice? The food has been served barely room temp. I'm not sure if they freeze their sauce and reheat it but it needs to change. DO BETTER. Especially at almost $20 for curry with chicken katsu. Serve hot temperate curry! The chicken katsu is okay and kinda bland but it's best to pair it with the curry sauce. The fried squid legs are clumped together and were semi undercooked inside. My suggestion would be to split the squid legs one more time before frying. This time I got the shrimp tempura and was disappointed to find that it was made with chopped shrimp instead of a giant shrimp. It was okay but the texture was not what I was expecting. Takoyaki - was basic and you can't mess this up. Tempura veggie cakes - not bad but needs a better dipping sauce than mayo. I think this place borders on American Japanese, a lot of the food isn't authentic at all. The decor and anime weeb culture is so on point for fans of Japanese anime culture but the food needs to do better if they will stay around long term. This place is inside a weird plaza next to a laundromat, location is kinda of sketch. Overall I do think this place is a cute concept and I wanted to love it (why do you think I came 3 times), but each time I was disappointed by the lacking quality in their food. Definitely stop for great food and ambiance! Absolutely loved this place. Inside is anime themed, all the wall are decorated with different images and figurines from shows and movies. I really like the flavors of their ramen. The ramen is 5 stars. We ordered the vegetarian pesto one and also the black garlic northwest blend. Both were amazingly fresh and full of flavor. Sometimes ramen can be bland, but this was absolutely delicious and full of sensational umami tastes. They even had a robot server. I would definitely come back here because both of the ramen bowls tasted super delicious. I also loved all the adorable decor and colorful atmosphere. Cons: the ramen is higher than a lot of other places. I was hoping that it would have been a little bit cheaper. The bowls start at $17 and you can't do any substitutions. For example, my mother didn't want corn in her ramen so she wanted to see if she could get extra mushrooms or an egg as a swap out for the corn, but they said that would cost extra - absolutely no substitution on anything unless you want an up charge. She felt bummed that she was losing an ingredient, but still being charged the same. By adding extras - it's over $20 for a bowl of soup - which seems expensive. I'm still wishing we could turn back the clock to 2019 when you could get a big bowl of ramen for $13. We also ordered the vegetable tempura. This came out as small pieces of sliced vegetable patty (birdnest) style cakes (tempura fried). It was ordered as an appetizer, but came out after we got our ramen. Only one piece was hot/warm and the other pieces were almost cold. They were smaller too than anticipated - I wouldn't order that again. Service was also subpar. We didn't get the robot service like the other tables which was disappointing. When we needed water refills we also had to ask for them. I also was intrigued by their Japanese curry, but they only made it in a meat version instead of vegetarian. It would be nice if they offered that too with a vegetarian option. All in all, I really loved the (vegetarian) ramen - which is their speciality - so I will come back. However, the appetizer really wasn't worth it, our service could have been better, and the prices are a tad higher than I expected. I will try it again though when I am in the area. It's better than a lot of other Asian restaurants that I have gone to. read more

Well, I left my hotel because after trying to figure out exactly what I wanted to eat inside the hotel it was very confusing exactly where the restaurant was so I decided to venture out and see what's surround and came across a place that's across the street from no hotel that I don't believe is something I should've eaten and I'm glad I didn't as I was crossing the street. I saw the Ramen place adjacent to the hotel and so I decided to give it a try. I walked in there and they yelled something and I believe it's in Japanese, but I can't be too sure. I believe it's some sort of greeting because when I left, they also did the same. The place is extremely packed and as well as lots and lots of decorations that he places got so much decor quite overwhelming. But very cool though. They asked me if I was one person dining and I said yes and they sat me at a table with other people which was sort of awkward, but at the same time I get it you know the place is pretty crowded and so they're trying to utilize all the space they can. I went to the menu and it's really kind of hard to understand exactly what you're getting in. I'm glad I look like I was lost because the server came out to me and asked me if I was ready to order and I said I really don't know what I'm ordering and he goes. What were you thinking and I said I was looking at the regular Ramen and he goes. Can I recommend something and I said sure he goes I think you should go with the black garlic Ramen with whatever protein you want. So I got chicken and I gotta tell you that was probably the most delicious meal I have ever eaten in a long time. The taste buds are is going crazy because it was so good. We found this gem on a whim. We were hungry and nearby and decided to try this place out. Thank goodness we did. Lots of ample free parking. We had to scan a QR code to be in the queue. We waited about 10-15 minutes, definitely feels longer when you're hungry lol. Loved the vibes of this anime themed restaurant and especially the food. 2.5 stars rounded up. Cool space, though the food was just ok. There was no wait at 6:30pm on a Friday. The food did come out really quick for our large group, which was nice cuz I was starving! I ordered the black garlic ramen, and for the table we had spicy chicken karaage, squid karaage, shrimp tempura, and french fries. Out of the appetizers, I liked the french fries best and the spicy chicken karaage second. The chicken had some decent heat to it, though the crunch was lacking (the chicken and the batter kind of blended together in a soggy piece). The squid tempura was quite bland even with the mayo dip, and again lacked crunch. Finally, the shrimp tempura--surprise!--lacked crunch, and the shrimp was quite mushy... almost an unpleasant texture and none of the bouncy chew you want in fresh shrimp. The black garlic ramen was initially tasty, though the broth started feeling too heavy with the garlic oil on top. I also wish it came out piping hot, but instead it was only lukewarm. I think the refrigerated toppings added on top were not reheated so they cooled down the broth. When I ate the soft-boiled egg in the bowl, part of the egg was a little cold--as were a few pieces of the woodear mushroom. The pork slice was quite fatty and too thick-cut for my taste, with not much seasoning; it tasted like regular boiled pork belly. The ramen noodles were my favorite part of the bowl as they were perfectly chewy and soaked up the broth nicely. Service was fine, though our ramen was kind of just handed out willy-nilly and when I asked which was which so we could pass it around to the right person, the guy only glanced at me but didn't answer and then kept handing out the dishes/bowls and then left. Maybe he didn't hear, but anyway, we figured it out ok. Again, things were just... eh. Was going to give 3 stars but my stomach is cramping badly tonight a few hours later. read more

The black garlic tonkatsu is a flavor bomb. It's going to be the best ramen you can get here and reminds me most of the ramen I've had in Japan. The place gets busy because its amazing! The inside is also super cute with all the fun decor. You'd never expect such an amazing place in the mini mall that it is in. This is a restaurant I often pass by on my way to Washington square, but never gotten the chance to try until recently! The inside of the place is super decorated and cute! I went on a Friday night and got myself onto their waitlist, I was able to get a spot within 10 minutes! The place itself isn't super big but it has a lot of seating. Got my order taken and was able to get my ramen pretty quickly! I got myself the black garlic ramen with the pork belly, it was super flavorful and tasty. It definitely is a heavier ramen and is oily, but is tasty! I would recommend this spot and would love to visit again. Have to say this is one of the best ramen shop in Portland metro area. I really love the interior decoration in the small ramen shop. It definitely gives me lots of nostalgic vibes. I can feel the love from the owner in this shop. I ordered the curry ramen which recommended by the lovely waitress, I believe her name is Jasmine, forgive me if I remember it wrong.
