My 2011 BMW 335i had a major coolant and oil leak, so we brought it to Rob for a diagnosis. The BMW dealership wanted to charge us $5,000 for new coolant lines, radiator, and other miscellaneous things regarding the cooling system. Unlike Rob, the dealership barely diagnosed my engine and simply wanted to replace a bunch of redundant things like the radiator and all of the coolant lines. Upon diagnosis, he noted that the only things needed replacing was ONE coolant line, the oil filter housing, and the serpentine belt where oil and coolant had fouled the part. I am familiar with most of the older shops in town but wanted to find a place that was not too small and not too large. A shop that, if you purchased a part or accessory yourself, could do the installation for you. Many shops have a policy of not installing parts provided by customers. They have a solid 5-star rating and glowing reviews. How does that happen? Working on cars can be very difficult, and COVID-19 supply chain issues don't make things any easier. Well, now I know. I took RAA a ton of parts to install, including a turbocharger, and it was no problem. The installation was super clean and perfectly executed. This shop needs to go on a list of the hidden gems of Escondido. I almost hate to write this review and keep this place all to myself, but it is very well deserved. Rob has serviced all of our cars, from Honda, Toyota, BMW and Mercedes. A few things set him apart from all of the other shops we have used over the years. 1. He is straightforward honest. What I mean by this is he does not try to make a situation better or worse with talk. When our battery drain issue was happening he kept our car overnight because he could not replicate it. By the next day he had figured out where the issue was. Other shops thought it was the radio. It was not. 2. He doesn't mind working harder to find the real issue. Had some stalling issues on my midlife crisis racy car. Another shop blamed the issue on my aftermarket alarm and yanked it out- which had me lose quite a few features, including security. Rob traced the issue to a leaking capacitor in my ECU. If you don't know what that means, just know it is a very, very deep dive and means that Rob really knows what the heck he is doing. That is some very serious sleuthing he did. Overall he is fantastic. I cannot fathom using anyone else even though there are a few good shops closer to home.
