First, I would like to say that the shop was great at communicating when it came time to obtain my business, but not so quick to communicate when it came to follow up on questions I had. On a positive note, the shop is very clean and gated, so it is a safe place to leave your car overnight Nevertheless, I will not return to the shop. My experience found them to be dishonest. I brought my 2022 Volkswagen Taos (approximately 35,000 miles) in for a routine oil change and was told that my rear brake rotors needed to be replaced immediately because "new brake pads would not apply to the rotors." At the time this did not make sense because I did not hear any screeching on my brakes and had no issues with my brakes prior to this appointment. However, I was in a time crunch and did not have time to visit an auto shop anytime soon for a second recommendation. I was about to start a full-time commute driving 60 miles each way five days a week. Because of this, I went ahead with the repairs. The way the need for replacement was presented made me feel like my vehicle was unsafe to drive if I didn't authorize the repair. Every time I mentioned driving to Orange County, Fred's response only furthered my fear. Once the repairs were underway, I began to question the pricing and necessity for replacement. It was at that point that I asked for pictures of the rotors, and then I asked the shop to give me my rotors and brake pads when the repairs were completed. Before I left the shop, I took a closer look at the rotors myself. While the shop owners did an excellent job of trying to convince me at the time that these rotors needed to be replaced, my first instinct was that they looked fine and did not need to be replaced. They had normal wear, and as I ran my fingers over them they had no deep grooves, no significant scoring, and no obvious damage. I took my rotors with me and had them reviewed by a friend who owns a repair shop in Orange County. There was nothing indicating the rotors were at the end of their useful life. It was at that point I knew I needed to write a review. To be clear, the shop failed to provide any measurements showing the rotors were below the manufacturer's minimum thickness or warped, replacing them did not appear to be an obvious necessity. The long-term effects of this experience will be felt every time I drive my car. When business owners look out for their bottom line over the needs of their customers, they often overlook the long-term consequences. Lost business, bad reputation, long-term loss. Being a woman, I assume they did not think I would do my research and dive this deep on the situation. But I do not like to call dishonesty out without having all the facts first. It was a poor miscalculation on their part. What disappointed me most was not that the shop recommended additional work, there are certainly situations where rotor replacement is appropriate. It was the fear-based approach used to sell the repair. As a customer, I rely on professionals to provide objective information, explain why a repair is needed, and present the evidence so I can make an informed decision. Instead, I left feeling pressured into believing my brakes were unsafe. It is experiences like this that have taught me to always double check what mechanics tell me. I value honest recommendations and transparent communication. If the rotors had been measured and shown to be below specification, or if there had been another objective reason they required replacement, I would have appreciated that explanation. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience. I encourage others to seek a second opinion before authorizing expensive repairs based solely on verbal recommendations. read more

Fair was recommended to me by my neighbor , to have them check my front passenger tire, it was making a squeaky noise after it went over a foot deep pot hole. I met Fred, I believe was the owner was very pleasant , took him 2.5hrs to figure out where the noise was coming from and fixed it. Took my truck out and test drive and all is well. Price was very reasonable. He only charged me for 2 .5 hours of labor. I was very pleased with the work that was done. It was not the first time for me to call Fred, this time to fix my broken AC on my 2016 Elantra. First call was yesterday, and he invited me to come this morning. This morning (at about 8:40 AM), in about 5 minutes he found the problem. Within next 5 minutes he provided me with the way to fix it, and cost of the repair to be finished in about 4 hours. In addition, he inspected my engine and found that the transmission fluid had to be changed, and he did it. At about noon Fred called me to come back to pick my fixed car. This place is NUTS. And I don't mean that in a bad way, I mean, IF YOU NEED AUTO REPAIR, GO TO THIS PLACE. PERIOD. GET YOUR ASS TO MARS AND THEN GET IT TO THIS CAR SHOP. I had multiple problems with my car that literally my dealership, and four other auto repair shops wanted INSANE prices to fix; we're talking $1,000 minimum, upwards of $2,000-$3,000 to fix. And that was just for ONE problem I had, which was the back of my car having this weird part jutting out of it. I needed a general checkup on my car, air filters fixed, oil change, wheel rotation, all that stuff. Turns out my brakes sucked too, which I also asked him to take care of. He did new brakes, new filters, wheel rotation, oil change, windshield wiper fluid fillup and fixed my windshield wipers and the water jets for them, but most of all, he fixed that part of my car that was jutting out. I had been told by other """professionals""" that it would require me replacing my ENTIRE CHASSIS to fix this, and he did it in under 2 hours along with all the other repairs on a busy weekend on a walk-in. He told me he used to do bodyshop work, and I can believe it. THIS DUDE IS AMAZING. GO HERE TO GET YOUR CAR WORKED ON. I came in to get my check-engine light inspected and my windshield wipers fixed. It was only a few hours from start to finish, including them having the new motor delivered for the windshield wipers! What a great experience! I needed my front brakes done on my 2017 Kia Forte which was metal on metal and was not looking forward to spending a ton of money. I went by my local mechanic to get an estimate which was $550 per wheel ($1100), so I left that place, went home to research and saw the great reviews about Fair Auto Repair and called and spoke to Fred. He gave me an "estimate" on the phone of $370 for both front wheels to include Brake Pads, Rotors and Labor. I thought No Way in hell and that since this was an Estimate, I'd be paying more or that something else would be found to bump up the cost. I thought for sure with a verbal estimate it would be higher upon paying. Fred also said if I dropped off by 1pm, it would be ready the same day. I called and Fred said the car was done and the price would be as estimated at $370. Over a thousand dollars from other places, so this was just amazing to have a business do a great job at a fair price, because it seems the norm is for Mechanics to charge so much money and gouge the customer. If you're in need of brakes, I would highly recommend Fred. He's a No BS guy, come in, he does the work with a warranty and you leave. More places should be like this! read more

The cruise control button on my 2007 Civic EX was broken so they repaired the button on my steering wheel after they couldn't replace the wheel. They've also did massive repairs to my AC system and repaired the starter of my ignition. I appreciate how he'll show you the parts he's replaced so you know he's being honest. Turnaround time is fast, it's typically same day if you drop off your vehicle in the morning, if they don't have the parts then it'll probably be next day pickup. Note that they don't really have a place to wait long term comfortably, so you'll likely have to have someone pick you up/drop off. My starter would not start, and my brakes would not stop. I really appreciate the Angel that helped me to get the starter fixed (even in the cold rain), so I could get back on the road quickly. I found out one of my brakes was completely broken, and all the others needed the drums etc. fixed, and pads replaced. No wonder it didn't wanna stop~ The emergency brake also did not work at all. When starting it still makes some noise every once in a while, but it starts every time :D When braking it still makes many noises, but it stops! Emergency brake works too. Would definitely return! Really appreciate There's a charger port for many different sorts of phone chargers in the office if you need to charge your phone. I don't believe there is a restroom, but the bar across the parking lot has one if they are open. read more

I was very impressed with my recent visit to Fair Auto Repair. My major issues were coolant leaking and no ac. Fred is an outstanding mechanic. He diagnosed my car issues and repaired them in a very short time with minimal cost. I had been told by other mechanics that it may cost 1k or more to fix the ac and they would charge $150 to diagnose it. I went several years without ac until I went to Fair. Fred checked for free in a very short time and it only cost a fraction of what the others had told me. Now, I am very happy and ride with comfort. I wish that I had found Fair before I wasted my time and money with unscrupulous mechanics that upsell and overcharge. Fred is very honest and trustworthy as well as a very skilled mechanic.
