I actually reached out to him after getting a quote from my regular mechanic for $1,500+ for labor and replacing the air conditioner compressor due to the seals. Michael provided a much more reasonable quote, but what amazed me was after I arrived, he opened the hood to show me what was happening. It turns out the expensive removal and replacement wasn't needed. Michael is an honest mechanic. Sometimes as a woman, you're never 100% sure the auto shop is being fair when it comes to pricey repairs, especially when you're driving a reliable car. I would give them 10-stars if possible! So after meeting Micheal, nice guy I explained to him that I needed some front brake pads on my 2019 Mazda 3. $185 was a great price compared to a lot of the big shops. I have to admit I was a little nervous about the service when I explained to him that Midas had told me that I did need to replace my front brake pads and he told me he didn't even know who Midas was. This review is coming a little late - I moved out of San Diego, but I recommend Michael to ANYONE in SD who needs any type of auto repair. Michael gave a quick and reasonable quote for brake service using the Yelp app to get multiple quotes. He responded by text with an option to come check out my car since he's a mobile mechanic--very convenient and can save driving to a dealer or shop and no waiting in line, which is great! He and his associate arrived on time and were friendly, they assessed my brakes and he replaced my front brake pads efficiently and also checked my back brakes (noted they were still looking good). I appreciated his honesty and convenient service at home. Would recommend him for future similar kinds of jobs. He mentioned he can do all makes and models and specializes in German cars. -----TL;DR---- Pros: convenient and no wait once they arrive--so much easier than going to a place and waiting. They were on time Cons: mainly that it's not in a shop, so not sure if it would impact their work or not. I didn't ask about warranty but depending on what's getting fixed, might in the future just in case there is any issue. The best part though, was he took a look at my side mirror (dad had duct tape on it cause he thought he broke it...2 years ago). Got a prompt quote for repairs that was a very fair price. Brought my car in and the shop is clean and neat with a large waiting area. My job was pretty complex and he found a few other issues, that I expected give the age of the car. He added the work for a good price and didn't try to upsell on other items. So I had an ignition problem with my MB GLK350 over the weekend! I drove it to work and when I clocked out ready to go home, the car would not start! No turn over nothing. Had to get it towed to my house. I put out a request on yelp on Friday night and by 1130pm got a reply back from "The Legend Auto Repair". Michael sent a message through email and gave me a quote for diagnostic assessment. Best yet, he's mobile. I replied and he gave me a time to come to my house. Michael was nice and friendly. Went right to work asking questions and starting the diagnostic. He found the problem and tried to find a way to fix it, and fix it an affordable price. Although he said he wasn't able to fix the problem, he told us step by step how to find a way to get the problem fixed. He also got my car started at least so I was able to get it to another mechanic I think Michael is great. I would recommenmechanic. Michael seemed like a nice person, but I do not recommend his services at all. I requested a pre-purchase inspection with a quote for the needed repairs, and I made that abundantly clear numerous times before he showed up. He quoted me $150 for the service, which sounded reasonable, so I went ahead with it. He showed up and started randomly spot-checking the car and pointing things out to me that might need repairs, although many things didn't make sense. He first told me that the brake pads had about 60% life left, and then afterwards he recommended they needed to be replaced. I kept telling him to document it all in the quote so that I could relay this information to the seller, but he just kept continuing about his business, ignoring what I was saying. Thirty minutes later, he asked me "what else?" as if I knew what he's supposed to be looking for. I reiterated to him that I wanted him to give me a full report with a quote once he finished the inspection. Then he proceeded to tell me that if I want an official quote, it's going to be an additional $200 because he has to "use his business" (whatever that means). So instead he offered to send me a text with the information. At this point, I was starting to feel like I was getting swindled, so I just asked him to send me the text and be done with it. His text included about 10 routine items for a rough estimate of $4650. I didn't know if I could trust this "quote" so I reached out to my friend who specializes in car restoration. He told me that most of the quoted items were unnecessary (e.g., changing the differential fluid) because that would have been done at the 60k service and the car has 72k miles. I really wanted to like Michael and try to give him the business of working on this car for me if I were to purchase it, but this was a really unpleasant experience. I hope that this was just a fluke experience since so many Yelp reviews praise his work so highly! read more

TL;DR I found Michael through Yelp's competitive quoting process. Experience was delightful and I will absolutely be a repeat customer. -- I do anything I can to avoid car payments. I'm in my late 40s and have owned only two cars in the past 25 years, one of which was a luxury German convertible I bought in my early-20s and just sold a few months ago, the other is my daily driver (a Toyota Avalon) that I've owned for the past 12 years. The Avalon has been a joy, but I have nearly 150,000 miles on it and it is becoming needier with age. Fortunately, Toyotas are easy and inexpensive to fix, much to the chagrin of my wife who desperately wants to hand-me-down her late-model hybrid so she can get a new boring-ass car. All of this to say that, since I drive cars until they fall apart, I've known a good many mechanics. In my single experience (so far) with Michael, he was exceptional! A truly sharp dude who operates efficiently and got the job done. He arrived at my house at the specified time, replaced the radiator and upper/lower hoses on the Avalon in a little bit more than an hour, and then stuck around patiently as I tested the car and drove it around the neighborhood. He showed me the parts going in before he began, and the parts he took out after he was finished. When I had questions, he gave thorough explanations. Because Michael is an independent mobile mechanic, he can provide better pricing than shops that need to cover administrative overhead and rent/real-estate. He accepts cash, VenMo, and Zeille (you initiate the transfer electronically upon completion of the job). Also, for someone like me who works from home there was great convenience to having the mechanic come to me. While working on the vehicle, he pointed out that the rear tires were dangerously worn (even showed me the issue) and strongly recommended replacing them. He went above and beyond by making a few calls to find the best deal on new tires and even scheduled the replacement appointment for me. Michael has been a total god send! The brake pads on my Jeep SRT had to be replaced big time. He came by the very same day to check them out. A few days later he had ordered brand new Brembo pads for me and installed them in less than 2 hours. There were a couple tweaks that the car needed. Tightening a few things after they settled in. Michael was able to fit me in the same day. All in my garage and super convenient! I hired him again to install an AWE Touring Exhaust. Again, came on time.. let me know when he was on his way and no issues with installation. He even stored my stock exhaust for me so I didn't have to. Mice had done some damage to my husbands Raptor. I called this guy for another repair and this greedy jokester had the audacity to quote me for a replacement part at $1200 dollars and the part was only $113 to fix the car. First impressions aren't always the best impression. Be careful dealing with this crook. I loved that he's mobile and comes to you. My car had been using excessive oil and spewing exhaust, and I had a sinking feeling I was looking at an engine replacement. (The Volvo dealer said I probably had a piston problem and would need a $8,000 repair job!) But Michael quickly diagnosed that I had bad spark plugs and patiently explained why I needed a new PCV valve. He's trustworthy, transparent and reasonably priced.
