First of all the surgery center reminds me of an illegal abortion clinic in the Philippines, very scary place. Secondly my attempts to get copies of my medical records have been unsuccessful. I have been trying to get copies of them so that I can go to the RUSH Pain Center which was recommended to me as IPM is a literal nightmare. I have never experienced such a disorganized doctors office with no returned phones calls, no follow up on requests for refills etc etc. I went through a terrible withdrawal from going cold turkey on my meds TWICE due to the fact that no one responds to any phone calls. The pharmacy is In California and is mailed to you so the it takes weeks to get the medication. This year I bit the bullet and bought a much more expensive medical insurance plan so that I could go to a legitimate professional pain center such as at RUSH University. I weaned myself off of the medication I was on so as not to experience the horrible horrible withdrawal symptoms I experienced twice while going to IPM. Now I am living in pain each day at a time waiting for them to give my copies of my medical records so that I can go to another doctor. My next steps will be legal action if I do not receive the medical records by the end of this week. Stay away!

My pain was so bad I finally called my insurance company (Cigna) and asked for in network providers in my area. That's how I found Dr. McGowan. Now I would like to note that I NEVER visit a physician, restaurant, or any business other than what's normal for day to day activity (CVS or Target) without checking their Yelp reviews. My insurance gave me 3 providers, none of which had great reviews *rolls eyes at insurance company* I ended up giving this office a shot because they only had 7 reviews. I feel like less than 10 isn't an accurate assessment (good or bad). The other providers I was given had more bad reviews which tells me that that is the culture within their organizations. The reviews from here weren't coming from fellow Yelp Elite. If I see that someone setup a Yelp account just to write 1 good or bad review I pretty much ignore it. Glad I went with my gut. My appointments went great! I made my initial appointment over the phone. When I came in for both my consultation and follow up visit, I was greeted right away. I think the front desk receptionist's name is Veronica. She was nice. I didn't have to wait long at all to see Dr.McGowan so that is a major plus. She was friendly and very knowledgeable. I first visited the office in mid September. Dr. McGowan sent me to get an epidural at the surgical center on Fullerton 2 weeks after my consultation. Then I waited another 2 weeks for my follow up, which was today. I would definitely recommend Dr. McGowan. About 2 years ago, I was thrilled to have found Dr Principe who runs this practice. I was…read moredesperate to find an integrative physician not afraid to think outside the mainstream medical box. However, in my desperation to have a doctor that was both integrative and open-minded, I've time and time again overlooked the rudeness and disorganization of the people answering the phone - particularly Dina the office manager (who runs the front desk). This woman should be no where near customers or have any contact with the public. Adam at the front desk (an intern) seems to have taken after Dina. I guess rudeness is contagious there, in my opinion. I've overlooked Dina being rude to people calling in asking questions when I was in the waiting room, on multiple occasions. I actually heard her answer the phone, on one occasion with Dr Principe sitting next to her listening, answer the phone to a person with cancer looking to become a patient. She was SO rude to that person. Dr Principe said NOTHING. And talk about privacy concerns! Well just recently, I found myself on the other end of that rudeness. When I tried to escalate the issue past Dina, she told me that I can NEVER talk to the doctor via phone and he will NOT return my phone call. I am an existing patient and they cancelled my appointment the same day as my appointment. Dina left me only 1 message two hours prior to my appointment to cancel it for that day because they got 'too' busy. I got the message on my phone after I parked in their lot to walk into the appointment. I called the next morning to reschedule only to be told they had to call me back. I didn't hear back, so I called today, 2 days later, to ask if I was scheduled for next week. Again, I was told by Adam that they would have to call me back. About 5 hours later I got a voicemail from the nurse (Jacqui) saying that they couldn't refill my meds until they see me and I should call back to talk to the front desk to make an appointment (and around and around we go!). She obviously had no idea that they were the ones who cancelled my appointment on me earlier in the week. When I called back and spoke to Adam at the front desk to tell him there is major confusion, I could sense, yet again, by his tone that he could care less to be working there let alone care about medical run-around they are giving me. Talking to them is like talking to a brick wall. So he responds that he can 'squeeze' me in in about 2 weeks! I said that was unacceptable and did he understand that I am out of medication and they are the ones who have giving me the run-around after having cancelled the appointment on me! It didn't sound like he cared and mid sentence handed the phone to Dina at the front desk. She did not even let me finish my sentence before she hung up on me. I called back to speak to the Doctor and she hung up on me again. I called back to speak to the nurse, Jacquie, and Adam did put me through to her. She ended up being apologetic, and understanding....but too little too late. She also said that she confirmed with Dr Principe that he had not been given the message by his staff (no thanks to Dina and Adam!) that I had had an appointment that week that they had cancelled on me! So much for Adam being able to relay a message properly. And this guy is going to medical school soon? Scary! I just wanted to share my experiences in case anyone was considering this practice. Too disorganized and many unhappy workers there. This has been going on since I have been a patient there and it is totally unacceptable. I highly recommend you look at other practices for your health needs. No one deserves to be treated like this. The even more sad part is, that it is evident to me that Dr Principe knows how Dina treats patients, yet he allows it to continue. In my opinion, that woman needs to be fired. I am sure she is costing his practice money. Just sad.
