Went to go view guns at the Succassunna location, as I'm in the market for one. Was immediately "greeted" with hostility, just a weird vibe. Asked to see one of the guns, he handed it to me and as I was just starting to look at all the parts he immediately yelled "watch it you're gonna catch your fingers! No hold it like this" and took it from me "showing me" how to do it. I told him don't worry my fingers were no where near the action (had someone with me to vouche that I wasn't holding it improperly) or any part of the gun my fingers shouldn't be as I'm a range officer and firearms instructor, I know how to handle guns. And he (and a coworker) immediately quipped "well some guy shot him self at 'such and such' gun range that doesn't hold any weight here". I advised him I don't work there, I work elsewhere to which they just kept talking about what happened at the other range embarrassing me in front of other customers and how my occupational knowledge "holds no weight" at this store. It was very awkward to say the least. Minimal selection of guns and the gun I wanted was easily two hundred more there than I found online. Left the store immediately afterwards and won't be back. As a female, I deal with having to prove myself enough in a male dominated field, I refuse to do it where I'm spending a large amount of money. read more

Location caters more towards hunting, fishing, and shooting crowd more than the Paramus spot which is more camping and outdoor sports oriented. Good deals on ammo expecially if you spend more than $100 - they give you a $25 buck off coupon to bring to the register. Pretty decent selection and Ron can order you pretty much whatever you want as well as transfers if you order something online. Trasfers are high if they have an account with the manufacturer at $100 but if they do no work the company it is a bit cheaper. I typically use D&S in Bernardsville for transfers because it is close to my office and $45 regardless of the situation. Prices on...hardware...are fair and not inflated. Staff is always helpful and makes sure you are happy with your purchase which is a rareity in NJ gun shops. read more

Terrible customer service. My senior citzen mother made a purchase as a gift. After the recipient tried the items and decided that theut didn't want them my mother returned tme the following day. She misplace the receipt and even though she paid by credit card they refused to look at the transactions to provide the credit. The store associate even remembered her making the purchase the prior day. In the end they gave her a store credit that she will never have the ability to use. You would think that they would try to be more accommodating towards a senior. Next time I would suggest purchasing online rather than try to stimulate the local economy for a business that doesn't value common sense or elders. read more

I recently purchased a firearm from the hinting dept in the Ramsey, NJ store. It was a trouble free transaction. Ron is a super guy as well as the rest of the staff. I highly recommend these guys for all firearms purchasers new and experienced alike. This was my first firearm and they gave me great tips and didn't talk above my head with terminology. This is a fantastic store for outdoors. They have a wide variety of products; they carry kayaks and canoes, hunting equipment, hiking boots, and clothing. They often have coupons in the value paks and on their website. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The prices are very good and competitive. This is definitely one of a handful of stores that really specialize in outdoor gear and equipment. Also, great place to find shirts and gear for larger size men. Great store for gifts for the avid outdoorsman. read more

Went to the store to have a fishing reel spooled with suffix braid. Have been to the store easily hundred times over the years and have never had an issue. Today I ask the sales clerk to spool my reel with suffix 30 pound braid. First he told me that he only uses power pro. I didn't pay any attention. Then I told him to not back the spool with mono straight braid to the reel. He started to put mono backing on which I stopped him and explained that's not how I want it. At this point he started giving me attitude and said I should come behind the counter and spool the reel myself. He then proceeded to tell me that I could learn a thing about fishing from his 70 plus years of experience. Then told another clerk that he refused to spool my reel and he should do it. I am not a young kid and am in my late 40's. I will tell you this I have been fishing with my father since I could walk. I have also spent lots of money in that store over the years. I am also in a customer driven hospitality industry. I will not spend a penny more in this location and high advise any and all to beware. If they are that careless with how they hire employees and care that little about the service of there customers. They do not deserve anyone's hard earned money. read more
