Dr. Baroudi, I appreciate your response and would like to clarify a few essential facts for the benefit of anyone reading this review: I lost my Small Claims case, and I fully accept the legal outcome. However, I left the hearing with a strong feeling that the judge did not fully consider or even address the central issue: during two appointments in your office, you never performed a Periodic Oral Evaluation (POE). In fact, you never even asked me to open my mouth before the extraction began -- after anesthesia had already taken effect. You billed me $144 for a POE, but no examination ever took place. Had you performed a proper evaluation, the misidentification of the tooth would have been immediately obvious to both of us. Neither you nor the judge addressed this fact at the hearing. The court never asked whether a POE was done, and you did not mention it in your presentation. You state that my dentist referred me for the extraction of tooth #18. In reality, my dentist referred me for evaluation of tooth #18 precisely because she could not make a diagnosis without a physical examination. You, however, did not perform any exam and relied solely on an X‑ray -- exactly what my dentist refused to do. For these reasons, I hold you accountable for what I consider unprofessional conduct: extracting a healthy tooth without confirming it with me and without physical examination. While I understand that the legal system ruled in your favor, I believe patients deserve to know exactly what happened so they can make informed decisions. It's been 24 hours since I got my wisdom tooth and molar removed because of infection my wisdom caused and I honestly feel great!!!! But, my visit started last month by being referred over to Cambrian specialty group and was seen by both dentists and by far they have been the best from the front staff (especially Maria) she answered all my questions regarding cost, some procedures, post care, and scheduling. My wife went to Dr. Baroudi for a consultation regarding the removal of her wisdom teeth. X-Rays were taken and the doctor pretty much said that it was too risky to proceed. However Dr. Baroudi promise to follow-up with our dentist to define her situation. We didn't receive any further info after 1 month, not even a mail or a call, just the bill. We had to go back to our dentist to find out that the follow-up has never been made! After being accused of drug seeking my tooth was finally extracted $400btw. Then... omg... wow it was infected all the way into my jaw. A few months go by and my bridge is KILLING ME, naturally I was drug seeking. Her assistance told me nothing could be wrong because no tooth was there. So after begging her all she did was look at it and have me meds. After several weeks of going back and forth between my regular dentist AND UCSF specialist it was determined that I needed to have the bridge removed. Well low and behold ALL THE TEETH were DESTROYED, I had a massive infection and now I've had two surgeries to remove the infection and now I need a bone graft. I've been seeing the same dentist for over 30 years and around 5 yrs ago, I began having gum problems and consequently losing teeth. I began getting implants, and would see whatever specialist was working at the office. Yelp should have zero stars as an option. I have absolutely nothing positive to say about this company. - Front-desk staff: EXTREMELY rude, rushed, uncaring. I felt as if I was at a retail store instead of a health professional's office. - The older woman who walks the clients to the exam room and takes the x-rays: Hard to understand due to a heavy accent; however, she was pleasant. - Rana Baroudi: This woman is stone cold. My perception of her behavior is that of someone who sells expensive cars or some other high-priced commodity instead of someone whose profession is to take care of people's health - even if it is only your mouth instead of a major organ. She comes across as very calculating, with the focus being making the most money out of the client (which is what they make you feel like, instead of a patient) as possible. I did not see any sense of humor or compassion. From what I observed and experienced with her, I also felt that she interacted with people as if she feels that she is superior to them and they should feel lucky to be in her presence. After having had to put up with this unwelcoming atmosphere during the period of time that I was there, they proceeded to give me an estimate for her recommended work: the whopping sum, rounded up, of close to $10,000, including the work that she had done that day. Yes, you read correctly, close to ten thousand dollars, for what I understand to be a couple of hours of work; even if for some reason it would end up being 4 hours,, it is still an exorbitant rate. You can do the arithmetic and see what it equals per hour. Now, based on the fact that the total benefit amount of my dental insurance is very low, I would have to pay almost all of the amount out of my own pocket - and there is no way that I can afford it. So, unless we demand our elected officials to appropriately BUDGET part of the huge amount of tax dollars that we are forced to pay, and therefrom provide dental (as well as health) care as a benefit to ourselves, I will not be able to get the gum work done - and neither would you, unless you have loads of money sitting around somewhere. Since, at this time, such a likelihood is pie in the sky, I will be searching for another periodontist who has a reasonable rate and who, hopefully, cares more about human beings than about squeezing every last penny out of them. I'm not saying that dentists or any other professional should not make a profit, but it has to be reasonable and within the bounds of human morality and human ethics - exorbitant prices do not qualify as such - especially in the health field! read more

I had a problem with receding and thin gums. Dr. Baroudi performed my gum surgery. I was nervous at first about the procedure and about the result (there was a chance my new gum tissue wouldn't "stick"). I was incredibly impressed with both her ability as a surgeon (she was very precise and efficient) and also her interaction with me as a patient (she was very helpful with my questions and great at setting expectations -- i.e. explaining the steps in the surgery, how much time would be left with each process). Her office was also very friendly about answering questions about treatment/care post-surgery. While I don't think dental surgery could ever be considered a fun or super enjoyable experience, Dr. Baroudi and her team were excellent and made the surgery as seamless and pain-free as possible. I've needed to see Dr. Baroudi twice; both times for an implant to replace a ailing tooth. Both times I've seen Dr. Baroudi I walked in nervous and both times I walked out wondering what I was so nervous about. She is really amazing! Obviously having a tooth pulled is no fun but I can't imagine how a Dr. could do it any better than her. Pulling the tooth was quick, painless, and she was great about checking in with me to make sure I was comfortable and in no pain. After accidentally touching my upper palette near my gum line, I felt an extremely painful sensation underneath the gums. I went in to see my general dentist who was concerned that I may have some tooth resorption based on some quick x-rays. Now I had heard of gum recession but this was totally novel to me. I was not pleased to see that I might have an uncommon and troublesome dental condition in which the body's own cells eat away and dissolve the tooth structure. I thought to myself, great, nice way to start the day! My dentist recommended that I go in to see a periodontist and because the treatment could possibly also require a root canal, she recommended that I go see Dr. Baroudi, who she thought was an excellent periodontist who shared an office with a really good endodontist. I did not want the matter to fester so I called her office immediately and they were able to give me an appointment later that day, which was great. I was so pleased that I might be able to get this matter taken care of the same day. I came in and really liked the clean and modern feel and decor of the office; the receptionist was really pleasant. She asked me to fill out some paperwork and before I knew it I was escorted into this room in which a 3-D digital x-ray was done of my full mouth. After a few minutes, I was escorted into a room in which Dr. Baroudi came in and introduced herself and her colleague, Dr. Swanson - an endodontist. The two of them looked at the imaging and almost simultaneously came to the same conclusion, I did indeed have tooth resorption in the spot in which I was feeling pain. They showed me why they came to that diagnosis - I could see the little lunar spot/dent on the surface of the tooth. I wished I was looking at a picture of the moon, not one of my teeth. Any way, the two of them quickly came up with a plan of action that might save the tooth and prevent me from having to possibly have the tooth pulled and a subsequent implant put in; recommending a crown lengthening and a root canal. They discussed the timing of the procedures they would each be able to do. I really appreciated their conservative and collaborative approach to the subject. And because of that I knew they were not trying to make money off of me. I spoke to my dentist and she looked at the imagining and agreed with the proposed treatment plan. The office was great about squeezing me in toward the end of the day so that both doctors could do the two procedures. Dr. Baroudi's crown lengthening was quick, easy and painless. Not that one wants to have such procedures done but it was done really well and her chair-side manner was great, constantly asking how I was doing, whether I felt pain and before I knew it, she was done.
