My late parents always told me that some of the best food comes out of the casinos. Since they loved visiting Reno (primarily for gambling purposes), they always got an amazing prime rib or lobster dinner for a very affordable price. This takes me to the city of Fernley, NV (about 30 minutes east of Reno) where I had the opportunity in trying out "Ranch House Restaurant". This restaurant is adjacent to the "Silverado Casino" which is only a small handful of operating casinos in the Fernley area. We were both very hungry as we ventured through South Lake Tahoe, Carson City, and Virginia City, our appetite grew as the evening went on. After checking into our nearby hotel (which was luckily 1/3 mile from here) and getting washed up, we made it to the restaurant at around 7:15pm on Friday 6/19/2026. Upon entry, the interior layout looks straight out of the 1970's complete with posh booth seating, wood panels, and brick walls in a very spacious dining area. This is quite reminiscent of the old school casino restaurants in the more prominent Reno casino restaurants; mainly Silver Legacy and Nugget. Once seated, we were given two menus and requested an iced water (for myself) and a Diet Coke (for her). One minor drawback which could be a make it or break it for many is that the internal temperature of this restaurant was quite cold. My guess is that it was only around 66°F so if you plan to dine-in, come dressed accordingly! I will say that the menu is quite extensive with ton of options to choose from. This includes appetizers, all-day breakfast, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and a lot of excellent entrée choices. After making my way through the entire menu of options, I settled with the "Grilled Salmon" entrée (priced at $18.99). This consisted of a house salad, a 6 oz. filet drizzled with balsamic glaze, steamed veggies (mainly zucchini and squash), and I opted for a baked potato (that came with butter & sour cream). She chose their "Old Fashioned Cheeseburger" (priced at $12.99) which came with lettuce, tomato, pickle, & onion on a brioche bun. She opted for cheddar as her choice of cheese and the burger came with a side of seasoned steak fries. Total time took roughly 15 minutes from when we placed our orders to when we received our food. I will say this; the food here is quite delicious. My salmon was a very thick cut and at less than $20 for a salad and full entrée, you absolutely get your moneys worth. The veggies had excellent texture while my baked potato was piping hot. This isn't a 5-star dining experience with a very no-frills atmosphere but it is your above average casino food that is eerily similar to other restaurants that are adjacent to casinos that I've dined at over the decades. Our waitress, Cassandra was very polite and professional while the ambiance, price, and food was definitely above average. Last-minute decision to stop by Ranch House since it had been quite a while since our last visit. It took a few minutes before we were seated, and unfortunately they only had one Father's Day rib special left. The ribs were pretty good--tender and moist--but could have used a little more BBQ sauce. The coleslaw was tasty, and the baked beans were okay, though both were seasoned on the lighter side. Our server, Parker, was pleasant, attentive, and accommodated all of our requests. She did her best despite the restaurant appearing to be short-staffed. Overall, the experience was okay, but the restaurant could benefit from stronger management support and better staffing levels. Service quality is likely to be impacted if these challenges continue, and it already seemed like employee morale may be suffering. Hopefully the team receives the support they need, as there is still good potential here. read more

Slooooowwwwww service is the only reason for the 3 Our server Lehela was great. Very friendly and attentive enough to know that hubby was missing pickles on his burger. He ordered the Mother Lode with pickles and cheese only. He chose the potato salad as his side, it was tasty, smooth, and a hint of bacon. My taco salad which she recommended with the ground beef was good! It came with salsa, sour cream, and guacamole in a tostada shell, which was the reason for the delay in our food arrival. We also ordered lemon meringue pie and carrot cake. Both were good too. It is attached to a casino but thankfully has its own entrance so no need to walk through the smoky casino, unless you need to use the restroom We've been here before when we felt like a lil road trip. Even though this is part of a casino, don't let that stop you from giving this place a try. It's a very nice home-like feel with very good comfort food and more. It's a casual atmosphere with plenty of seating, and the staff here appear to do a great job of keeping the place clean. I've eaten here for dinner twice now in the last three nights. Both times the service was excellent and never missed a beat to keep tabs to make sure all was well. Saturday I was craving something with pasta and garlic bread and the Chicken Alfredo truly hit the spot. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce had a great taste. The garlic bread was made well which made my craving happy. The portion was a perfect size for me leaving me satisfied and not overstuffed. Tonight I had my favorite sandwich, the Clubhouse. Chose to get this with wheat bread along with a side of potato salad. I'll admit I was quite full after eating this meal. Again, this meal was made very well but I assume the potato salad is the typical premade variety. The Ranch House offers several menu items, including breakfast all day, which should satisfy most anyone. I'll be working in the area for a bit more, and I'll definitely come back now that I have this to add to my local rotation. read more

Well, the pendulum swings. Called to ask what their soup was for the evening. Once finding out, it took us 10 minutes to arrive. We walked in, around 6:15pm, and a server walked by and said it would be a few minutes. Okay. After a minute, an extremely grumpy lady walked up and said that they weren't seating anybody because they had a large group of people they were helping. We asked how long was the wait... she said "you don't get it, we're not going to serve anyone else tonight!". Disappointed, we left and went elsewhere. The last 3 times we've gone here it has been very poor. The most recent experience, I ordered a ribeye w/ loaded baked and veg. side and a dinner salad. Steak was ordered medium rare and arrived medium well and looked white like pork. Very little pink if any. Flavor was decent and temp. was warm at best. Baked potato was undercooked and semi warm. My wife ordered eggs over easy, hash browns and bacon. Eggs were over medium, hashbrowns undercooked and bacon was like jerkey. She did not eat her meal and sent it back. Service staff was polite and nice and did credit a meal back. This was the 3rd similar experience, we will not be going back. read more

I checked and was informed by fellow yelpers that they do a pretty mean chicken fried steak at this old established restaurant inside the Silverado casino. Well, the chicken fried steak was pretty darn good and the pepper gravy wasn't too bad. The best part was it came with potatoes of your choice, hash browns it was, that was a simple choice since I love hash browns! The chicken fried steak wasn't house made but gotten from a vendor but it was still pretty darn good, better than some I've tried. It was almost like telepathy because no sooner than the order was put in my snack came.I think the cook must be a wizard. The hostess, Catie, doubled as the hostess, the waitress and the server and also the cashier, wow, I wouldn't be surprised if she also cooked the snack I had. This used to be a good restaurant. My friend and I went yesterday 2/13/26 for lunch. We had the daily fish and shrimp special and an Ortega burger with potato salad. The fish was soaking in cold oil, the shrimp and hush puppies were burnt. My friend food looked good but I didn't taste it. The service was slow and unresponsive to requests for more coffee. Best breakfast in town! I had chicken fried steak and eggs. Chicken fried steak was good, had flavor and was large. Gravy was tasty, I get it on the side so I can dip my steak in it. Hash browns were delicious. My kind of hash browns. Eggs cooked properly. Coffee good. My husband had a skillet and he was happy with it. Service was excellent! Got coffee and water as soon as we sat down. Got breakfast in timely manner and water and coffee were refilled quickly. Server was friendly and happy. She was very welcoming. Basically she was awesome. I would definitely eat there again. Too bad this place is in Nevada and I live in Southern California the land of bad service. read more

I liked the Ranch House. We went with 11 people in our group on a Sunday night. There weren't many people in the restaurant, and we had to wait 10-15 minutes to be seated. I understand it can take time to put tables together and what not. So that was no big deal. Honestly a 10-15 minute wait was nothing. lol. It did take a while in between drink orders and food orders to be served but the server did a really good job with bringing everything out at once. So no one was eating their "meal ordered" appetizer or salad with the rest of the side salad orders. & then being done when the rest of the dinners came out. So that was pretty thoughtful. There is a gratuity added on to tables of 8 or more. But they tell you that before you start ordering so that was fine too. Overall, this was my first time dining at the Ranch House and I liked it. Should have got some sort of dessert. But I will next time! read more

They and other staff expertly avoided any eye and verbal contact for the following 15 minutes. We were finally able to get the attention of a waitress and asked how long it would be before being seated. After being told it would be a while and multiple excuses about the kitchen being backed up AND overhearing staff at the register tell takeout customers it would be 30-45 minutes for their meal to be ready, we decided to leave. Came here the other night with my dad, sister and 4 year old nephew for dinner. My nephew wanted a cheeseburger and chocolate milk. Well they didn't have that on the kids menu (cheeseburger) so they charged for him to get a regular menu cheeseburger. And when he drank his child cup of chocolate milk and wanted more, they charged us for a 2nd chocolate milk. I've never had a restaurant charge full Price for a kids food choice. Just threw me off. Good price for the amount of food you get! And one of the best steaks I've had! Vegetable were fresh shrimp were very good cooked perfect . I think I would skip the salad next time as I could not eat all the food I didn't even touch the dinner roll they brought and my steak was very thick and cooked perfectly. The Ranch House menu had the feeling of a diner. I had an open face Reuben, my husband had their beef macaroni cheesy soup and a hamburger mushroom plate with gravy which he liked. I wanted salmon from the entree menu. The waitress said because salmon is considered a "lighter" entree, it does not include salad or baked potato. All you get is salmon and vegetables. There was also no way to substitute the vegetables for a baked potato or even a salad. I would have had to purchase all this a la carte, which would have made the meal beyond ridiculously expensive. So I opted for the spaghetti and meatballs (I had them leave the meatballs off) so I could get a salad included. This was a mistake because the salad was wilted, bagged lettuce. The tomatoes were squishy. It was a terrible salad. I could only eat about half of it until I just felt grossed out. The spaghetti was also a huge disappointment. It was about $17 and it wasn't even good. My child remarked "this taste like it has pizza sauce on it." It didn't taste like spaghetti sauce...it did taste like pizza sauce. The spaghetti was also watery, which made it gross. Who can go wrong with chocolate cake, right? We shared a slice and it was the most underwhelming cake I've ever had. All I can say is, this is the most disappointed I have been in a dining experience in a long time. With a name like "The Ranch House," I was expecting some fresh, delicious food. It was also way overpriced. $16.99 is too much for a plate of watery noodles and sauce. The best part of the meal was the garlic bread that came with the spaghetti. The Ranch House Old Fashioned Burger was our favorite. The burger was thick and flavorful. Now the patty is small and thinner than a fast food burger. There is no medium rare or well done even when requested due to how thin the patty is. I felt sorry for our waitress when we complained, she admitted we weren't the only customers to complain. Not bad for my sleepy little hometown! I had the rib-eye medium-rare for dinner with chocolate crème pie for dessert. I could only eat half of everything they have such large portions and am taking the other half home. You do need to advocate for yourself but they are helpful when you have their attention and gave me good recommendations. The music selection was country. read more
