Rancho Fresco brings Mexican flavors to life with its delicious homemade tortillas and fresh ingredients. Their tacos are a standout, with warm, soft tortillas that are made in-house daily.  Beyond the amazing food, their staff  is always very friendly. They also have a center bar in the middle of the restaurant, if that is your scene. You would think a center bar might be a distraction, but it really isn't.  One thing that always cracks me up, is you first start with the person rolling out your homemade tortilla. You tell them what you want, they grab the appropriate size ball of dough and ask you what kind of meat. The funny thing is, the person pulling your tortilla off the cast iron comal is not the same person rolling out the dough. So you always get asked twice what kind of meat. I have no clue why the first person asks what kind of meat since they don't let the person 6' away know what kind of meat I would like.  That being said, go there for the tortillas if nothing else. I ordered through DoorDash on 4th of July where they didn't report they were closed.. On July 5th I ordered two burritos which thank goodness they were actually open. I'm coming out of town and generally used to love these burritos so my boyfriend and I were looking forward to it. Before ordering I called in where the first time my call was declined when the phone rang once. I called some time later where a woman answers the phone very snappy and rude "BUENO" I stopped and was left without words for a couple seconds, I could figure out if I was on a personal phone call, or calling a restaurant. I politely ask "hello are you guys open today" she says "yes" then goes quiet. As I could tell she wasn't in the mood I thanked her and moved on with my day. After receiving our burritos one veggie, one chicken they were extremely small, very dry, and just sloppy all together. Used to be my favorite spot but obviously it's gone downhill. They need to teach their workers how to professionally answer a phone, and how to make a correct burrito on top of it. Worst experience ever. read more

I've been here a few times and also made sure I came at different hours, to get the full effect. Unfortunately, nothing was really different. Basic Mexican food and nothing had a "Wow" factor. I've had better food from taco trucks. Workers are always nice but you get a different person, than the one who starts your meal, so you're repeating your same order. One of the times I went in, was at 7pm, and the bar was closed and the food minimal. They had zero beer to offer, even a bottle or can. I wanted to like this restaurant but the food was sub par and no frozen margaritas. The restaurant does not offer table service as you order at the counter. I ordered a beef enchilada which was beef wrapped in a tortilla with red sauce poured over it. Not the usual one baked. My entree was cold by the time I got to the table and not tasty. read more

The staff was very nice and friendly, how ever my husband and I we ate carnitas quesadilla and I had nachos with quesadilla meat. Well last night we were up Saturday night until the wee hours of the morning with food poisoning. We were greeted when we walked in. They make your tortillas rite there as you order no pre packed. I had the carnitas they were pretty good. Their chips are made there also and you have a choice if you would like flour or corn tortilla chips that's awesome loved that option. The tortillas elevated the veggie quesadilla. which was good, but I probably would've put my beans and rice on the side of the plate (more garlic, onion in the beans. please). This restaurant serves typical Mexican fare, with the notable plus that the tortillas are made fresh. However, the overall experience was lacking. The cashier was not very hospitable, which set a poor tone right from the start. I visited while in Modesto and, frankly, there are many better dining options in the area. The rice was underwhelming, and although I noticed some tables had chips, none were offered to us. That inconsistency added to the disappointment. If you're in a pinch, this place might suffice--but if you have the time, I'd recommend exploring other restaurants first. Fast food at sit down prices. read more

First of all it's 92 degrees outside. Turn on the ac, I paid too much to be sweating inside the booth. First time coming I waited by the greeter stand while someone sat behind the counter not telling me that I needed to come up and tell them to build my order for like five mins. I order a taco salad. The inside portion of it is great, the shells tastes days old. They didn't offer chips but we asked and one out of three bags were not stale. The salsa looked like it's been sitting for days unattended and tasted like it was fermented from high temperatures. The water tastes like cleaning products. I'm surprised this place stays open this was a terrible idea. Waste of 50 dollars will never return. read more

The other customers at the bar were a little loud but that's expected at a bar! $40 for the 3 drinks! The whole time we were ordering we struggled because they only spoke Spanish. Finally one of the ladies said something in English after I had no idea what they were asking me. If you know your customer clearly doesn't speak Spanish and you know how to speak English, then why not speak English? Super rude! Food is okay...can get better quality at a taco truck. Located in downtown Modesto, this place was slightly pricey for Mexican food, but the taste of the food and environment definitely made up for it. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla for $13 after tax. The restaurant staff hand kneaded and cooked the tortilla as well as prepared the quesadilla fillings in front of me. They asked what I wanted on the side and I chose lettuce, pico de Gallo, and shredded onions; they also offered me complementary chips and cups of salsa. Since this was my first time having freshly prepared tortilla, I felt that the quesadilla tasted really good - I like how the tortilla skin had a slight chew to it and complemented the cheese and shrimp well. The shrimp was also well seasoned and flavored to my likings. Apparently this restaurant has another side to it that is more like a sports bar. This is definitely a good place to eat and chill if you're ever visiting Modesto. read more

The food is just average and the service is not the best. I was in there behind a large group of soccer kids and soccer moms. They literally have been standing there for about 5-8 minutes looking at the menu. Nobody is as ordering and so I called in my order and even though none of the soccer folks had placed an order yet, the cashier / cooking staff said they can't start my order until that big group has ordered! I want to emphasize that no one had put in an order from the big group yet. The homemade tortillas are always delicious. The burrito was good too. If I had to complain, the burrito never makes it to the end because the amount of liquid from the meat soaks the tortilla which causes the tortilla to rip. Visited here before heading to Gallo center for the Nutcracker. I ordered three tacos with chicken, carnitas, and barbacoa. I think I enjoyed the barbacoa the best - was slightly dissatisfied with the carnitas. It's neat to see them press and make the tortillas fresh for your order. As I am gluten free - I asked about corn tortillas and they informed me they are only for tacos. I didn't ask if they made exceptions for those with allergies, but I will have to next time as I would have loved a burrito. The tacos were decently priced and you are able to load up on salsas at the salsa bar. Where I was sitting was in direct view of one of the tvs playing a gruesome zombie movie. Okay. I always say "the kitchen is only as clean as the bathroom". Although the food was good, so I thought. I was seriously disgusted of the things I seen after eating. I was horrified of what I found when I went to the men's restroom. It seriously looked like a crime seen! The light was burnt out. One urinal ripped off the wall. Another covered in a garbage bag. And the last remaining had what looked to me to blood splatter on it! Then the toilets all looked like war zones. The floors were absolutely disgusting! You're absolutely lucky you can't smell the smell!!!How could anyone ever use these facilities is beyond me! I have added pictures. Even got a picture of the front door after leaving. Came here before our show at the Gallo. Very friendly service. Fresh made tortillas were delicious! Had something for everyone. We had the chili verde and grilled chicken. I've only had the burrito bowl but I know that was excellent. They make their own tortillas right there in front of you. Fresh and on the grill. I love that. The food is amazing. Honestly, it's my favourite Mexican place by a mile. Every time I'm in downtown Modesto, more than half the time I find myself here. The staff is friendly, the vibes are impeccable, so why the low rating? I've worked in food service long enough to know that there are NUMEROUS health code violations here. The last two visits, I've had pieces of hair in my food, and a fly in my quesadilla literally the next day. On top of that, the "up next" wooden board which sits directly on top of the grill and the dough in which they make the tortillas from, that sign is FULL of dust, which could easily fall into the tortilla mix and into YOUR food, or into the rotating grill itself. My recommendation? As for the restaurant, please wear hair ties/nets, more than half of your staff does not wear it or even take precautions to prevent hair from falling into food. Please dust your sign, and anything else that's in proximity of the food prep. As for the customers? This place is still really good. But I'd be cautious when it comes to your food. Inspect it, and point out anything wrong with it to management. As for me, as much I don't know how to, I'm going to find a way to file a complaint with the local authority. The burritos are okay. The meat was precooked for my burrito but it was still good. I like the novelty of the spinning tortilla flat grill. The tortillas have quite a bit of raw seeming/sandy flour on the outside but it does give it a somewhat unique texture. On a recent weekend morning, a small taco place across the street that had to turn away around 40+ guys and they all headed to Rancho Fresco. The eggs in my omelette weren't mixed There were egg white parts and dry yolk parts then part of it was over easy? The potatoes were dry. Definitely won't come back for breakfast/brunch. My friend's ham was insanely dry. The cutlery our party was given was pretty random and didn't go with the meals we had ordered. The drinks were good. I only came here for the club. A bunch of friends and I came here on 2ND SATURDAZE and we had a bomb a** time! The DJ (DJ Awal) played allllll the good hits, the drinks were priced hella good, and THEY HAVE A RIDING BULL IN THE BACK BAR AREA! They had different djs in rotation that night but the music was good! They had 2 bar areas, one in the front and one in the back, which is bomb becuase if the front one is too crowded, you can always go to the back lol. i did not get on the bull. I did watch other drunk ppl ride tho lol. this place is VERY SPACIOUS. I wish I took pics but I was having too much fun. As for attire, just dress up. Please ppl. It doesn't take that much effort to put on some dress clothes to come out. I will come back but only for 2ND SATURDAZE. My friends were super happy that I made them come out and check out this place.
