What I experienced Saturday (June 15, 2019) evening watching the Colombian soccer game at this place was completely rude and AWFUL customer service. Never in my life had i felt so harassed by waiters and waitresses at a restaurant. We had previously called to make sure they would be showing the game and were told we needed to arrive early because the restaurant gets very crowded. We arrived 2 hours before. From the moment, we arrived we were told to continuously order food to watch the game which was completely understandable. We ordered our first round of food and beer and from that moment on we were harassed every 5 minutes to continue ordering food. We were asked to be given time to consume our food (because it doesn't take 5 minutes to eat your food...?). So, then the waiter said his shift was ending implying we had to leave the establishment. We asked our bill to be transferred to another waiter, we shouldn't have to leave the establishment just because his shift is over. WHICH BY THE WAY, the waiter never ended up leaving and lied to us. We saw him serving other tables. We realized this was used to deceive us into leaving the establishment. This same waiter came back later forcing us to spend at least $100 to watch the game which we thought was reasonable. Then a few minutes later, a very rude waitress came by telling us the manager wanted us to either leave (because other people were waiting outside) or consume at least one full bottle of expensive alcohol or order another bucket of 12 beers. We had just been told to spend $100 and now we're being told we need to drink/consume SPECIFIC things? Firstly, it is not our fault that other people chose to come late to the restaurant and have nowhere to sit. And secondly, they were clearly harassing us for the sole reason of maximizing their profit because we were a small party. NO OTHER table was being harassed the way we were because their parties were larger (at least 10 people). We told the waitress we felt we were being singled out and being discriminated at which point she told us there's no such thing as discrimination that does not involve race or sex (she clearly doesn't know the definition). Needless to say I will never give them my business again and neither should you. They do not care about their customer satisfaction and go to great lengths for their sole benefit. read more

The energy of this restaurant is electric. I came here on a Sunday evening where there was live music and all tables were full. I ordered the "Arroz con Camarones" which was huge and filling. Great for dinner and to share. The shrimp could have been grilled a bit more. Great selection of cocktails, wine, and beer. (They also have happy hour during the week until 6) Highly recommend for some great vibes, food, and entertainment. read more

Amazing on a Friday! Food was soooo much we had to take some home from every plate. Music was omg like I was reliving my childhood. It was just old school Colombian Cumbias and Salsa .. some old school merengue here and there, basically re-living the 90s. I will definitely be back to bring my family there, I had such a good time. I went there last night for dinner and I was impressed by the amount of tables they have setup (too many in my opinion) but the decor is off the roof!!! The service is amazing but the food is not all the way up there yet! I'd def give it another try on a weekend. One tiny advise to the owner or the person in charge; I noticed that there is a large leak in the corner where they have the cups, glasses and plates which is not very sanitary. What a disappointment. I was excited by the decor and figured most Colombian restaurants have similar menus. However, the live music was so loud I couldn't hear the people I was with. They serve water in PLASTIC CUPS with PLASTIC straws. The ratio of guacamole to tostones is waaaay of. The waiter seemed annoyed to be there. Nothing is served as the pictured menus are either. Went last night and had a picada for 2 ppl $25 on the bottom everything was potatoes and on the top some meat. Very disappointed I expected good freshly cooked meat from the grill. Meat didn't have any favor and it seems the meat was already cook because it was dried. I had asked for medium on the steak and probably had about 4 thin slices of steak and everything else was potatoes, plantain and one arepa cut it in half. I'll rather stick with Noches. I ordered the stuffed shrimp for appetizer (shrimp was frozen) you definitely. By the way drinks are okay I believe a little overpriced. read more

At 9pm on a Friday night, a singer and then a DJ worked in the background, singing Colombian and Mexican favorites and spinning Latin dance hits. Service was generally quick and efficient, although it did take longer than desired to place our order. While there are lots of drink options, there was only one Colombian beer option, Aguila. Why not Club Colombia, too? We ate well and the portions are almost as large as the building. The BBQ ribs were a hit, the bandeja Paisa a massive plate and crowd pleaser, and my cazuela de mariscos (seafood stew) was tasty and full of mussels, clams, calamari, pulpo, and shrimp. Not a fan of valet parking or places that have this as their ONLY option to park. To come to this restaurant you need to either take an Uber, walk, or plan way ahead and time it right because the lot is small and lots of people drive there. The restaurant, looks OK, nothing fancy at all, I would NOT call this place a "steak house" since they do not specialize in steaks as their description states. However, if you must have Colombian food and you are tired of the other local 20+ Colombian restaurants in the area, this may be the place for you. The server was very attentive my only complain is that I ordered skirt and it was very small and mostly fat as the for the dessert it wasn't my favorite I've definitely had better desserts here. This place, when u enter ,is supposedly a "family restaurant", but is like a club in disguise. The music is so loud, that u can hardly talk and order ur food. The waitress r very good at their task, but the food.....it leaves a lot to be desired, starting with the price, everything is well above the average price of other Colombian restaurants. We ordered a "picada" which was mostly potatoes and yuca, and in the menu, drinks such beer and cocktails r priceless, u only see the price when the check out arrives....i have already tried to give this place, several times the opportunity, but no more. Friendly service and great drinks. Food is good and plentiful. Lively atmosphere, great for family dinner celebrations. Pricing is surprisingly fair. TVs usually have sports on, and Latin dance music piped in between live musicians. The big open space makes it feel less intimate for a "date" type dinner, but the bar area provides a coziness you may want with your +1. I've seen multiple couples opt for the bar over the tables for that reason. One unique thing is they have a bakery onsite which is open early - great coffee and "Pan de bonos" for those racing to get to work. Parking is a chore - especially on weekends. read more

As far as Colombian cuisine Rancho Mateo food is decent. That said, the place is like a big echoey hall and they have a DJ/ entertainment playing loud music. This is okay, but gets on your nerves as the evening wears on because of the high volume. When I received the check there were two totals on the bill... "Cash" and "credit!" Appears the owner(s) are not happy paying Visa card their commission nor were they able to negotiate a reasonable rate, so they passed it on to the customer! I was very annoyed because I don't know of any other restaurant that does this. Sorry to say the extra 4 bucks came off the waiter's tip! I usually leave 20% but in this case I left 15% and never to return! The waiter was apologetic and told me it was the policy of the owner and not his decision. I totally understand, but it's not an incentive for me to come back. There are plenty of other Colombian restaurants in the area from which to choose and I choose not to return to Rancho Mateo. read more

This place is my go to when I'm in Jersey. This spot is a small escape from the real world. I been here twice and loved it. There is a live band that performs and the staff is friendly. The best part is the food. I had Lomo de Res salteado and it was amazing along with the portion size and the price was responsible. The foood wait time is about 20 minutes which is super fast.
