I like vegetables so I had the beef alambre at this location and the chicken alambre at the Malecon location. I lived outside of La Paz for almost two years and ate at this place dozens of times. Perhaps the best traditional Mexican I've ever had. Grilled marinated grass fed arrachera beef. Buy it by the kilo with a platter of fresh condiments and guacamole and make your own tacos. Top it off with a bottle of ice cold Modelo. Heaven on earth. Don't bother with having breakfast here. We were looking for a locals and regulars only place for quick and casual dinner after a sunset scuba dive. This place was recommended by the dive crew. Open late - totally authentic Mexican with lots of options - dive crew recommended the tacos . We had three plates of tacos - shrimp "naturales", fried shrimp and arachera (flank steak). The steak ones were best - shrimp were good but cooked in lots of margarine and salt so some of us liked them some did not, fried shrimp was good but very 'doughy' . Located just a block off of the south entry to the La Paz boardwalk (malacon), this place is absolutely amazing! They are famous for their Arrachera, steak strips that had been marinated for 24 hours then grilled on an open flame and come out juicy and tender. You can also order the Arrachera by the kilo or half kilo, to go. We also ordered shrimp with peppers onions and cheese - better than words can describe. The service is generally quick and very friendly and while they don't speak English very well they will make an effort to figure out what it is that you're looking for and assist in any way possible. So good! This is authentic mexican food on a budget! Gringas, if you're not familiar, are street tacos with cheese melted with the meat served on a flour tortilla. One grigo was TWO tortillas wide with FOUR tacos worth of meat. All the food was good, but the frijoles (refried beans) were great. The frijoles are made with pork fat, so not veggie friendly. My mom was born in Sorona, Mexico and the frijoles taste just like hers! If your a Californian like me, every item on the menu may not be the best thing you've ever tasted, but its still DANG TASTY. read more

During our first trip to La Paz we got to have lunch at Rancho Viejo and try their famous Arrachera. We loved it! The tacos we built out of the large spread you get were very different than what we were used to in the States, which made it fun to try the more traditional style of the area. Ate here today with my family of 6 adults 2 kids. We were informed it was only a taco stand (for the day) and nothing else could be ordered from the menu. They were out of Al Pastor and Chicken and it took over 45 minutes to get our food. Once we got it we gobbled it down because we were starving but were quite disappointed in the flavor. Would not recommend this spot. It might have been an off day because it's a holiday but for it being the first place I eat at on my first day in La Paz I was not happy. read more

If you are thinking of getting asada tacos then get the arrachera instead, it is way more tender. The pastor was good but I had better. Shrimp Diablo was great and the arrachera platter with cheese, onions & poblano rocked. I learned that mixto in the taco section is meat with cheese and vampiro is on a tostada. The food was outstanding and service was very welcoming. We each tried a different dish, I tried the temiqueno and it was a great assortment of food and vet generous portion. The reason for the 4 stars is that the margaritas were a bit too sweet. You can tell they used fresh lime which is excellent but if they put in about half the sugar, it would be a home run! Tried this place for breakfast on a morning walk after reading the raving reviews. Cute spot and maybe breakfast wasn't the meal to try but it was busy and looked "local." The arranchera was well below average-don't need to have this again. Chile relleno was great and the carne asada in the omelet was pretty good. Coffee was delicious. Overall, decent experience but if we go back, it will be to try tacos but not arranchera which was blanched and no flavor. read more

This place was SO disappointing! I dragged my boyfriend a few miles in the blistering heat to this place because I saw good reviews and it was one of the worst restaurants I think I've ever eaten at. Walked down the malecon to Rancho Viejo just before midnight to enjoy a half kilo of arrachera with all the terrific condiments including pickled cabbage and grilled peppers. The bean soup which we accidentally ordered was also excellent. Service was prompt and price was reasonable.
