Above and beyond is an understatement. I called out of the blue for a rear wiper blade. Knowing the weather was lousy, and not having one in stock, they went out and found one. Randall offers a $200 special for a transmission flush. This service costs $300 or more at other shops, but I realized the hard way that the service is not the same. Changing transmission fluid is not like changing your oil, however that is how Randall does it. They just drain and refill, although that leaves a significant amount of dirty fluid and crud in there. I learned this the hard way and then had to go to another shop to have a full flush done that included detergents and a complete fluid drain and replacement. I was ready to chalk it up to experience and never return to this shop, however I experienced an issue with the work they had done on the bearing. I was driving and had to pull over due to a sudden grinding noise. Upon inspection I saw that a bolt from the wheel bearing had come loose and was lodged against the axle. It seemed pretty obvious to me that they had not torqued the bolt down properly and it had backed itself out and into the axle. I had it towed to Randall. The next day the service consultant called to tell me it would be $125. I explained that this was their work that wasn't done properly. They claimed they had no record of the wheel bearing being replaced. I was shocked. I had expected an apology for not doing the job right the first time, but instead they denied ever having done it - despite the fact that I had a receipt! But it gets worse. I told the woman the receipt was in my glove compartment. Randall then looked in my glove compartment and in addition to the receipt for the wheel bearing, found the receipt for the transmission flush I had had done at the other shop. He called me back and angrily accused me of betraying him and telling me that "there was transmission fluid all over the engine" due to the shoddy work of the other shop (there wasn't). It was insane. I picked up my car (was not charged) and will never return. If own a Volvo and value professionalism, honesty, and quality work DO NOT bring your vehicle to Randall Automotive. read more

To sum up, Randy sold me a broken, jimmy-rigged car, that wouldn't pass inspection, gave it a sticker, then ignored me when I asked him to make good on his promises. I got ripped off of about $2000 - $3200 (If you count driving the car for a little over a year or not). Here's the whole story: I bought a used car from Randy, he promised to fix anything that went wrong within the first few months. I immediately had a Check Engine light on (meaning that he had reset it, then given the inspection sticker), so I brought it to him. He said it was an air pump of some kind (I don't know much about cars) and I left it with him to fix, I got the car back days later and the Check Engine light came right back on, I took it to a trusted guy I know to pull the code, and it was indeed that air pump thing. I took it back to Randall Automotive on appointment and they said they had to replace something else that had to do with it. They said they did it, Check Engine light came back on on the drive home. I figured I would just take it to him when the next inspection time came and he'd just do what he did last time. I also had discovered, when it got not out, that my A/C didn't work at all, I brought it to him, left it there a week, and he said he was doing this $600 repair to the A/C for free for me as a big favor... And it worked again, for a couple weeks, and then no cold again. I took it to a friend and he said that Randy just charged the unit and didn't replace anything. Inspection time came, I brought it there, and Randy told me it was going to be $700 to repair for the inspection, I turned him down and went somewhere else after the light had went off again (it would come on and off periodically). Shortly after, I hit a pot hole that dislodged something in my exhaust. I took it somewhere and they told me that someone had out a U bend on it to hold it together temporarily, to avoid replacing the whole exhaust system. They also told me that it was most likely the guy who I bought it off of, or they definitely saw that it was like that before selling it to me. That repair would have been more than the value of the car, and I lost her... It was a little emotional actually. I loved my '98 S70. I called Randy a couple times, and no return call. I stopped there and the little coward refused to come out from the back to see me. He's a spineless worm, and a lying cheat. Don't do business with him. I had given a prior great review for him just after the A/C "repair" he said he did. I felt good that he had done such an expensive repair for me for free... But no, he lied. read more

I purchase a pre-owned Volvo S40 from Randy two and a half years ago. My sister had done business and continoues to do with him and recommended him to me. My sister lives in the Albany, New York area; I live in Ohio. I purchased the car and drove back to Ohio. When I went back a month later, he told me to bring the car back in and he fine tuned it at no charge to me. When I visit my sister in the summer, Randy takes care of my car. I have found him to be fair, dependable, and honest. The one time I was having an issue with my car, I took it to a dealer here and sent the diagnostic to Randy. Not only did he figure out what was going on with my car within minutes of my arrival, he also let me know that some information another shop gave me was incorrect and that I didn't need the parts they said I needed. Randy and Cory took great care of me and my car and helped me get set up with a rental so that I was back on the road within an hour of stopping by. DO NOT GET YOUR VEHICLE HERE. I've been doing business with Randall since I was 16 gotten 3 different vehicles over the time, I'm 22 now. This most recent vehicle I purchased was a 99 Mazda pick up. I was told Friday May 20th the truck was ready for me. I went to the bank got my money went down and was told everything is all set for me we will see you this afternoon after work. They took my check had me sign the paper work, which was a mistake on my part, and went about my day. Once I was home I got in my other vehicle and drove to Randall's to be called and told the vehicle hasn't passed inspection so they would need it until Monday. I went down to speak in person and was told "the car isn't passing inspection and needs a little more work to be done to it to meet my standards" so knowing this I left and was going to wait until Monday but received a call not even an hour later saying my vehicle now passed inspection! How lucky right? Except that just sounds shady. So I went back down and Randall himself told me I could take the car now but it isn't up to his standards. See how I'd like my truck fixed properly I told him to just keep it till Monday. So Monday comes and I come down get my truck and start to drive home. Immediately when I hit the break the car started pulling to the left a whole lot, me in the right lane hitting the break would put me in the left. I contacted the mechanic and was told to bring it in Wednesday to have the vehicle fixed so today May 25th, my truck was dropped off at 7 am and I went about my day to work. At 2:40 I was called and told the car was on the lift and being worked on and I'd get a call soon to come get it. It needed 2 calipers and that's was it. At 5 pm I went down to see how it was going and to wait for my truck. I had no where else to go waiting for a vehicle you own isn't a very uncommon thing especially when you're waiting in your work vehicle minding your own business. Well, Randall didn't appreciate this apparently and came out to talk to me. Instead of waiting for the window to be rolled down he rips the door open and starts speaking to me in a childish condescending manner. Asking me what I was doing here and to go shopping or something while I wait. I calmly told him I was just gonna wait here I didn't see an issue with it to be told it was gonna be finished in "an hour maybe 45 minutes" I wasn't necessarily happy with the wait but didn't say anything but Randall noticed that I wasn't so happy so all I said was "well it's been here since 7" which set Randall off into a tirade. He went off raising his voice and pointing his hand in my face telling me how I didn't know how to be an adult and speaking over me when I tried to speak calmly to him and then slammed the door back and told me to leave. After an hour I went back to get my truck which was still on the lift and sat on the waiting room where I was met by Randall who started telling me how ungrateful I was and that I disrespected him and then was met by his son to be double teamed with 2 people screaming at me about something that was mine and was broken the day I got it. I was told to leave and wait outside so I did and Randall again came out and told me the truck was now not going to be finished until tomorrow, clearly just to be confrontational and childish. Hearing this I demanded my truck be lowered and given to me and was told no but to get off the property. Randall then got in my face poking me in the chest. After the first time I told him "do not put your hands on Me" just for the mature 50 year old Saint to spitefully poke me again. I'm currently waiting for my vehicle that was a 2 hour job that now turned into a 4 hour job. I've never been so disrespected by someone in my life especially since my family has been customers of his for years. My past 2 vehicle had the same issues a Pontiac Montana that had a head gasket blow a week into driving it and a Volvo that wouldn't shift out of first gear the very first day I got it. I guess I'm stupid for continuing to go back but I've had a decent relationship dispite all of the issues. I've been going to Randy's for 7+ years and I don't own a Volvo! He and his team have taken great care of my 04 VW GTi and now my 07 GTi. They go out of their way to make sure the service is done right the first time, but on the very rare occasion that I have to bring it back, it is no nonsense, just get it right. Because I am a woman with limited knowledge about cars, I'd say the thing that most impresses me is that he never, ever tries to sell me something I don't need or say that something is broken that isn't. This is the most unprofessional business I've ever been to. My boyfriend purchased a vehicle from Randall, the vehicle wasn't fully ready or had even passed inspection yet and Randall insisted on having the money for the vehicle. The truck failed its first inspection but magically an hour later passed. My boyfriend was still told the vehicle wasn't up to Randall's standards and would need to be kept over the weekend for additional work, when asked what work needed to be done Randall said he didn't know. Finally after days of waiting my boyfriend finally gets his truck, only to have to be brought back the next day because both of the front calipers were bad. How weird that that wasn't noticed when Randall wanted to keep it for a few extra days cause it wasn't up to his standards. Also how weird that the vehicle passed inspection when a break test is done, if this were truly done the truck would not have passed. Luckily the truck is under a 30 day warranty, so not a dime came out of my boyfriends pocket. Randall got in both mine and my boyfriends face, screaming and talking over us all because my boyfriend said he wasn't happy about the situation. Randall had my boyfriends truck up on the lift and kicked us off his property, refusing to lower his truck. In the midst of Randall going off on my boyfriend he also proceeded to put his hands on him. After telling him we were calling DMV because he was doing very illegal things, he finally dropped the truck. Not even a full week later the truck had to go back AGAIN because it was over heating and leaking transmission fluid. When we lifted up the hood and checked the coolant it was completely empty. We then checked the radiator where we discovered some type of "stop leak" which if any of you are familiar with it, it's a cheap and easy fix for a leak which will eventually damage the entire vehicle. So the radiator had stop leak and the transmission was also leaking. We brought it back to Randall and my boyfriend asked for his money back, Randall refused to void the sale and then refused to speak to anyone besides my boyfriends father. My boyfriend is the one who paid Randall, everything is in my boyfriends name, for Randall to refuse to speak to the actual customer who purchased the vehicle is absolutely childish, unprofessional and ridiculous. After 3 days of waiting for the truck to be finished, Randall tells my boyfriends father that he broke a brake line while working on the truck, a brake line doesn't just break, it had to have already been rotted, it then took Randall another 3 days before we could pick the truck up. My boyfriend was sold a junk truck and is being refused a refund. This is the most disrespectful, unprofessional, grimy business I have ever seen. I'm disgusted with the way Randall runs this business, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH RANDALL OR ANYONE ASSOCIATED. read more

My experience at Randall Automotive has been very positive over the past 10 years that I have been going there, including vehicle purchases and service. Most recently he put a transmission cooler on my 2003 Rialta RV (VW EuroVan engine). This installation requires technical skill and expertise. He upgraded many of the clamps and hoses to guarantee better lasting performance. The installation price was fair and his timely work allowed me to take a road trip over Memorial Day weekend. Unbelievable experience w/ these guys. I randomly got towed to them last month when my car broke down on the way to the Albany train station. They were so easy to deal with, definitely understood the stress created by my situation, and worked very hard to hurry up my job so that by the time I got back from my travels the car was ready. They even proactively worked to source parts in a lower cost way, saving me a bunch of money. And they took care of ALL the back and forth with my insurance company, leaving me to not need to play middleman at all and doing it in a way that meant it was all covered by insurance. All in all it was the sort of experience I would never expect from an auto shop, but a real pleasure.
