I brought my SUV to Mavis to have a tire repaired. During the service, the technician removed the wrong tire and failed to properly reinstall it. After I left the facility, the tire came off while I was driving and rolled away. I had my infant with me at the time, and the incident occurred less than a mile from the Mavis location. This was an extremely dangerous situation. The failure to properly reinstall the tire placed both my infant and me in serious danger and could have resulted in catastrophic injuries or loss of life. I should never have been placed in this situation as a result of a service that Mavis performed on my vehicle. The incident also caused damage to my SUV. My insurance company is now handling the repairs. Unfortunately, Mavis's proposed solution was not to have the vehicle repaired at the dealership to ensure that it was properly inspected and restored, but instead to have it repaired by "whoever is cheaper." Given that the damage resulted from Mavis's own service failure, I find that response extremely disappointing and concerning. Prior to this incident, my SUV had a clean accident history. As a result of Mavis's failure to properly perform and inspect its work, my vehicle has now sustained damage that will affect its history and potentially its resale or trade-in value. I am also being required to pay an insurance deductible for damage that I did I was particularly disturbed to learn about Mavis's reported connection to the tragic limousine crash in 2018 that resulted in multiple fatalities. I recognize that the circumstances of that incident are separate from my experience, but learning about it made the seriousness of what happened to my family feel even more alarming. In my case, a failure involving a tire could have had similarly devastating consequences. I had my infant in the vehicle, and we were extremely fortunate that the tire came off less than a mile from the shop. This experience has severely damaged my trust in Mavis. A customer should be able to reasonably expect that a vehicle returned after tire service is safe to operate. In this case, that basic expectation was not met. I am extremely dissatisfied and disappointed with how this matter has been handled. I expect Mavis to take responsibility for its workmanship and make a reasonable effort to compensate me for the costs and losses resulting from this incident. Kasey, I am not normally one to complain and has actually never did for a business before. I had an appointment at 4 pm to replace one tire on my son's car in East Greenbush today. I got there 15 minutes early not expecting them to start right away. It took an hour and forty five minutes to do the one tire. Now I don't mind waiting it's just while I was there in the beginning I received basic customer service. That fine also. However, when a man came in after for 4 tires they treated him like royalty. They promised to get it done quickly and even checked on him and gave updates. They reminded him what great customer service they gave while never acknowledging or looking in our direction. When the man was on the phone just saying where he was the manager chimed in I hope you are saying good things. Plus reminded the man of the great customer service he received. That he didn't want him leaving unhappy. Then another man came in and the same manager was so nice they never met before and they chatted about previous jobs and vehicles they have owned. Great customer service. So after an hour and a half after the man that received fast and friendly service had left. I got in line to ask about the status of my son's car. When I made it to the counter the same guy in charge giving great service just walked away like I was not standing there and never came back. Nobody looked at me at the counter while I waited there for another half an hour. Yes, I stood waiting to ask about the status of my son's car for a half an hour. There is a glass window they can all see me. They finally came out to have me pay and give me the key. The same manger that was so friendly did not come to greet me he sent his employee. I asked them if it is normal to wait an hour and forty five minutes for one tire when you have an appointment . I only complained because I was being treated completely different then the men were. He said it doesn't matter if you have an appointment we take people as they come in. I said ok but the man that came in after me was in and out and got 4 tires and I waited an hour and forty five minutes for one tire. I asked him is it because I am a woman? I got no reply. Not sorry for making you wait no let me get the manager that has been completely ignoring you. Just my complaint or question was completely ignored. I didn't ask for money off I didn't ask for anything just acknowledgment that I even existed in your shop. So if it's not because I am a woman is it because it was my son's 2014 Ford Focus that he has had since he was 16 which and won't part ways with. Was my car not valued as high or my business because it was one tire. I just ask to have everyone who comes into that shop receive the same customer service and not be ignored for whatever reason he was ignoring me and the concerns I voiced. Which I never do I was just pushed way farther past my limit than any other place. DO NOT GO HERE...PLEASE READ BELOW: My girlfriend, a 25 year old female, went in for four tires and an alignment. She got there at 8:15am and was out at 9:20am. Having run multiple Firestone stores and been the service director at two local car dealerships, I knew there was no way both of these jobs were completed in that short of a time. I asked her if she was given a printout of the alignment, as is standard practice for any repair shop, and not shockingly, she said she wasn't. I went in later in the day and asked for a reprint of the alignment. They said "the system wouldn't let them pull old alignments up". Again, having used the same Hunter alignment machine they use at all of the shops I ran, I knew this was a complete lie. I offered to go into the shop and pull up the alignment history myself, and they hesitantly agreed to let me. I pulled up all of the alignments from that day, and her vehicle wasn't listed. The manager said "they don't always put the date in", which again I knew was completely ridiculous, but I said okay let's search by the VIN number of the car since that has to be entered in order to pull up the alignment specs for the vehicle. Again......NOTHING. Not only did they rip her off for $130 for an alignment they never performed, the manager continued to tell me I was wrong and he didn't care if it showed up in the computer, they did it. He continued to give me an attitude and said he would do the alignment right then since he knew he couldn't lie his way past me, but I declined. He then said he would refund the alignment, again because he had no lies left, but I said I would take it up with the corporate office. After a week and the district manager saying he would call me by the end of the day yesterday, I've still heard NOTHING. DO NOT SEND FEMALES IN HERE ALONE. DO NOT GET AN ALIGNMENT. there was no option to put a zero star so I have to get one , I was there to get my tire checked, I had such a horrible experience .Manager named Pat was not cooperative. I have a new car with light seat covers, after the service, my seat and armrest was dirty literally black. With oils and dirt from the mechanics clothes. They do not put any plastic to proctor the seats and it cost me more to get it cleaned.when I asked the manager about it he was so rude and putting everything on the mechanic, I requested him to fix? he was so rude and disrespectful and said he cannot do anything and walked away. Avoid that place and safe your time and money. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT PLACE . I will post the pictures as well. I had a tire that had an issue with losing air. I took in my car on January 28, 2025 for service, stating it may be a flat tire. After an hour, they told me that they couldn't find a tire leak, but they did re-seal the rim, as that had failed. A week later, I had driven to Canada and the exact same failure occurred. I took the car to Canada Tire, and they said that the issue from Maevis was that there was NO bead seal applied. Not that it had failed, but that Maevis had not applied any to fix my issue. Complete garbage. Not only did Maevis fail to fix my issue, they created a safety issue for me. Never use Maevis. read more

Boy am I glad I sorted these reviews by "newest first" before coming here. I don't know why review sites like Yelp, Apple's App Store, and others seem to think it's "helpful" or "recommended" for them to mislead their users into buying shoddy products, installing poorly coded apps, and patronizing carelessly run businesses, but they do, and if you leave such sites' review pages in their default sort order, that's what you're likely to wind up doing. Sorting the reviews by most-recent-first will give you a far more accurate picture of what actual users think of the current version of the product or app they're reviewing or of the business's current management. Doing so with this Mavis Tire location changed it from looking like a decent place to go to looking like a place whose last five reviewers all gave it one star and complained of terrible service of one kind or another. The staff is courteous and forthright explaining needs in lay terms and a range of immediate and long term solutions that both relate to safety and affordability. Not too bad I stopped in on Sunday before closing to see about new front tires. They were in stock and I paid the bill and was given an appointment for Monday at 8:30am. I arrived on time, they took my keys and the car was brought in within 15 minutes. They also did an oil change. The car was done in about 1hr. Having worked for tires centers in my youth I checked my hubcaps, no tpms light on, and the oil sticker was put on my windshield. I took one star away because they took the liberty of adding tire insurance to the invoice without ever mentioning it. read more

Had four tires installed today. They without a doubt have the best prices in the area. And they even give me a little discount for being a loyal customer. I was scheduled for 8 AM but overslept being on vacation. I called seeing if I could schedule another day. The gentleman said you can bring it in today it's slow day. Arrived at 11 AM and it was done by 2 o'clock, which seems to be the going rate for Mavis, no matter where you are. I will never understand why it takes that long to install four tires on a slow day. It doesn't take Goodyear that long, but then again Mavis doesn't charge you an arm and a leg for tires either. read more

My wife ..a handicapped Iraq veteran went there to have an oil change and inspection on her 2023 chrysler Pacifica. She was told her inspection would NOT pass due to bad brakes and rotors and would cost her $ 350.00 to change breaks and rotors and then the cost of the inspection. She brought it MOBILITY WORKS in albany, ny and fou d her breaks and rotors hlwhere just fine and within 30 mins passed inspection by PEPBOYS.. It is a shame that they would do this to a veteran let alone and disabled veteran. We are going to follow up with the NYS buisness fraud department and BBB to make sure this does NOT happen again as well as the Federal VA department to make sure they do NOT continue this horrendous service. read more

Went in yesterday to have two tires replaced due to my previous tire completely blowing out on me. Asked for my two rear tires to be replaced. Guy at the counter asked me if I wanted an alignment with that as well. I said yes, knowing that my alignment has been off since LAST winter due to a bad storm. They finish with the tires and "alignment" about half an hour later. As I'm driving home I notice that my steering wheel is still slightly turned to the left and when I let go, my car immediately veers to the right. My alignment was never done and in fact, seems worse. I got home and looked up the hours of the shop and realized that they are now closed at this point so I can't go back. As I step out of my vehicle I realize that there are grease and oil stains all over my drivers side door and seat from the workers sitting in it that had not previously been there. Summary: DON'T GO HERE. They will tell you they did work they didn't do and charge you for it. Last Friday I bought four snow tires here and had them put on. I called before my appointment and asked if I could do my state inspection as well. They said that wouldn't be a problem. I waited for over two hours (not surprising - they were extremely understaffed) and then they said they were done. I asked the guy at the counter if he was sure they did the inspection as well as the tires. He looked at me like I was crazy for asking and said yes. I paid and left. Then I went home and saw my inspection sticker had not been updated. I called back and checked and he told me to come back and he'd put on the sticker. No apology at all. I went back on Tuesday (it was the soonest I could return) and it turns out they didn't just forget the sticker, they just hadn't done the inspection at all and couldn't do it now because the inspector wasn't there. I asked for a refund and received it. Through this whole time, I didn't get a single apology., but there's a bigger issue here to me. An inspection is a very easy thing to double-check as a consumer. What if they had claimed to do a repair or maintenance work that would not be so easy to verify unless you were an auto geek? In sum, this is NOT a place to go if you care even a little bit about safety or good customer service. I know it's cheap but it's not worth it. read more

After putting down a 25 dollar deposit I had an appointment at 8 am on 6/7/23. I dropped my car off the night before . I went to pick up my car at 2pm the next day and it wasn't even started yet . I then received a phone call at 4pm telling me it was done . Had an 8am appointment it should have been done then .. 8 hrs after my "appointment " it was finished .. over a thousand dollars and I didn't even get a phone call telling me it was not ready 6 hrs after my appointment. In May I had my car towed to them because it would not start. 3 days later they told me I needed a new starter. Charged me $650.00 for it. Well 3 months later it started acting up in the same way! This time I brought it Monroe Muffler in East Greenbush. They told me that the starter was original or used. It ended up being a sensor that Mavis broke when taping up my pipes. See I had brought it to Mavis three years ago cause it was rattling. they charged me over a thousand dolllars for a tape job! And broke the sensor. Zero STARS ! I scheduled an appointment at 270 Troy Ave Rensselaer and received a call on the same day from an anonymous caller so it was blocked on my phone. The did not bother to leave a voicemail. I went to their location and when I got there was told there was no one to inspect my car. What !! Are you serious ? I was told I could have it done at the Latham location. When I arrived on Loudon Rd I told the gentleman what happened and he said I could get in within an hour. I received a free tire rotation which I did not know of online. Was extremely displeased. Went in last week to replace a tire that had popped earlier that day. I was there for 3 hours waiting for a job that should have taken 30 minutes. They insisted on checking my alignment but instead of just checking it they went ahead and fixed it without permission. I refused to pay for that. They also tried to tell me I needed new brakes. Which is not true. I finally got home and noticed that the spare that they had put back up underneath my car was dangling and looking like it was going to fall off. I had to drive all the way back hoping it wouldn't fall off. I found out later that week that they sold me a tired that doesnt match my other tires at all and is meant for driving on the beach. I rarely write negative reviews, especially considering a lot of places are short-staffed. However, my experience today at Mavis in North Greenbush was absolutely terrible. I had an appointment for 8AM today, and was told when I made the appointment (this past Thursday) this was the only time available. I requested an alignment, and the two front tires replaced. I showed up at 8 AM and was informed that they "Had like 10 walk-ins before me," and that it would be several hours. I told them about my appointment and they said ('m paraphrasing) they did not care. I essentially showed up early for nothing, and my appointment was not honored. I decided to uber home to wait due to the timeframe. While at home, I received multiple phone calls related to the shop trying to sell me a single caliper and pads on the front. I told them I had a mechanic here locally who works on my car (he does not sell tires though) and I declined. They attempted again, I declined for the second time, and they acknowledged my declination but still tried to get me to okay the brake work (the games and doublespeak were annoying). I explicitly said no to the brake work yet again, and asked when the car would be done; at this point it was 12PM and the car had been there since 8AM. I was told by the manager (the same one who was trying to sell me stuff) it would be an hour and he would call. I waited until 2PM and had heard nothing. I called the shop again and one of their mechanics answered (not the manager), telling me that the car had been finished around the time the manager and I had spoken at 12PM. I guess the manager wanted to make me wait longer due to not being able to make a commission on the brake sale? I got my car back around 2:45 PM. To say that I am annoyed and insulted would be an understatement. I had to cancel plans to travel out of town due to this ordeal. I wish I could give a zero to this location. P.S. - The tires and wheels themselves were filthy, but I was just glad to have my car back. read more

My appointment for an oil change and NYS inspection was for 1 pm. Arriving on time my car sat for one hour before it was brought in for service. It then took another hour-plus for the work to be done. Once I got in the car I noticed a number of dirty hand prints inside the car. Totally unacceptable. Will never go back. read more

Granted I had a coupon for a free tire rotation, but the 5 people sitting around me did not... I started my lunch break with Mavis at 12:30 PM and didn't leave until 2:10pm. I lost more money using personal time from work than I would have paying for the tire rotation elsewhere. There were plenty of staff floating around, and my car was in the service bay for a whopping 10 minutes, so it was hard for me to understand why it took so long, although it may have been the cigarette breaks that staff were taking in the work garage. One would think that, especially when there is a window for customer's to look into the garage at the vehicles being worked on, staff would be discrete in smoking cigarettes in plain view, but they seemed to have no qualms about doing in the same vicinity that customer's cars were being worked on. As much as I received a free service, and I was taught never to look a gift horse in the mouth, I can certainly say that I will not be returning to Mavis for any paid services in the future. read more

Integrity, honesty and skills have to be hand in hand in mechanics workshops. If one fails, you lose. I came here earlier today for my car inspection, so of course they will push on you their agenda of fixing parts that you may not have to change for inspection. So in my scenario I was aware that the sway bar/link on one side was broken, I know it is a minor issue, plus it passed the inspection last year when I did it at Monroe. So today I get told here that I must change it or the car won't pass the inspection. I was waiting for the weather to warm up then do it myself since they are very cheap in Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts. I decided to inquire about the price, why the heck not right, so he said 120 with labor and parts. I said: wow! I got it really cheap elsewhere (60 in Monroe) so he said okay 70 bucks for the one (he just cut down 50 bucks I was about to be robbed!!) I told him that at Monroe the same quote was for 60 bucks for each! So he said okay will do 120 for both!! Now remember less than a minute ago it was going to be 240 for both (( where the hell is honesty and integrity with these guys!!)) if you don't argue/bargain, they will rip you off big time. Then he started to point to other parts, so I stopped him and said "Buddy I don't have time for these and I know they don't affect inspection, just do my sway links and the inspection and don't worry about the rest, I will do it elsewhere sometime else", he said "I promise I will give you a good quote and you can come back sometime else". I say to you all again be careful. I ended up paying a reasonable amount of 21$ for inspection and 120$ for both away link totaling 150$ with tax. Hence they tried getting 120$ extra from me!! Sam's a good guy and I will continue to come back because at this location they communicate well, treat me with respect, and do good work. Yesterday I brought in my car for an alignment and I asked if they could take a look at the front left as ABS would kick in making a tight turn and braking (when parking, etc). They had the car for just a couple hours before calling and letting me know what it was (inner and outer tie rods). They discounted a lot of the parts and labor. They did the alignment, repaired the inner/outer tie rods, and a couple other things - quickly and professionally. Only thing keeping from 5 stars is despite their friendliness and professionalism, they will still pull the quintessential auto repair shop stuff like noticing you have a part or a fluid in your 15 year old car that isn't perfect or squeaky clean and they recommend getting it replaced or flushed immediately. So just be somewhat knowledgeable about your car before saying yes to everything. Yes a power steering fluid flush is recommended to do at some point but check your car's manual before just saying yes to a checklist of things mentioned over the phone. Unless you have money to burn, then congratulations for not having to worry about things like that. Also all of my lug nuts were coated in brake dust. I mean, I understand I'm going to a place that has "discount" right in the name. And it's not a big deal. But the 30 seconds of wiping clean your work before giving it back to the customer doesn't go unnoticed, and it's appreciated. read more

They tried to do an alignment on my car, I returned 3 times because they screwed it up. Also tried to sell me new shocks and a power steering fluid flush. I'm tired of getting rip off by this company. Almost each time I take my car there I always have to come back. it's always something. They will never admit to their mistakes instead they'll gather in the shop to plot how to screw the customer... Today I took my car back to the shop after purchasing two front tires last week, since then my sensor light have been flashing. One of the managers told me my rear tires had too much air ( always the same tactics blame it on the customer).Nevertheless my sensor light is still on. And on top that they previously over tights my oil pan screw which is now stripped and I can't get an oil change, and again I was told it was not there fault. Its a shame this organization used to focus on quality, now they're all about quantities. Here's a list of my bad experience: bad break jobs, stripping my bolts, long hour of waiting after being told 45minutes, not balancing my tires, my vehicle have been kept overnight because they waited too long to acknowledge their mistakes. Bottom line this company needs to re-evaluate how they work on customer vehicles and making sure that employees are qualify to the job hired.
