Been going here since 1984 when opened in Randhurst, then he moved to Arlington Heights, keepling name so his patrons could find him. The 5 star reviews are his work. He made anything look new, especially jackets, could match any color, smooth any damage & so reasonable. He retired a couple years ago but used to be annoyed people didn't pick up & pay right away as it took up space & easily lost. People should be charged full fee when left & daily storage. I've been going here for over 10yrs and since the new owners took over the prices have risen to all time highs. The lady(owner) that is at the counter couldn't care less about keeping a customer. I've taken a number of items in for repair and have always been pleased! Most recently & most notably they fixed a pair of Tredstep paddock boots, where the stitching completely pulled across the bridge of my foot (I could slide my finger from one side to the other under the leather). Not only are they perfectly repaired, they are beautifully polished!! I also had a Marc Jacob's wallet where the pull came off the zipper. It looks and functions like new! read more

They lost my boots & are not willing to reimburse me. I dropped a pair of shoes off in May. In June, I went to pick them up. As of June 1, 2022 the business was sold and there are new owners now. The owners could not find my boots despite the fact that I had my original ticket stub to pick up my boots. I left my name and number and was told they'd look for the boots and would call me, but they never did. Since then, I've called twice and they still could not find my boots. Today, I went in asking for them to reimburse me for my boots and the payment I made for the repair. The owner (Ho?) told me he wouldn't pay me since my original transaction was with the old owner and its been more than 30 days. If you have something you'd like back, I wouldn't recommend this store- especially since they aren't interested in helping their customers. read more

With cobblers retiring all around the United States, it's nice to see this one is still in business. We've been coming to Randhurst Shoe Repair for years. They've extended the life of shoes I have that outlived their soles and they've done a great job of repairing tops on shoes I wanted to wear a little longer. I'm not sure what the complaint is about price. This place has gone down hill under the latest new ownership. Relied on Randhurst she repair for 32+ years, just before the pandemic it was sold to a long time employee of the repair. He did excellent work, and had many years of experience and learning management style from the previous owner. The best place to get your shoes repaired, Neiman Marcus, Saks, any high-end stores across the country, who offered shoe repair, contracted them out to Randhurst shoe repair. Excellent quality of workmanship, great, customer, service, and turnaround time. Due to the pandemic and loss of business, the man who took over the business before the pandemic had to sell. The new owners have driven this place straight downhill. If you want the most basic thing done, may be good for that they clean my shoes OK but when I asked to have anything done. The answer is a flat out no with no explanation. Very strange encounters with this couple. I am moving onto a new place. It's a shame. Their customer service interactions are just plain rude. I'm not asking to be best friends with you, but I am hoping to be able to explain to you what I need done to my shoes so that they work properly for me and I am willing to pay you to do that. Definitely not the same level of neighborhood friendliness but more importantly the near magical, level of skill and attention to detail with people shoes seems to be gone. I have shoes that are 20+ years old that they have taken care of over the years, I would get them back and they would be like getting a brand new pair of shoes. I brought in a pair of John Varvados black dress shoes. This was my first experience with a cobbler. These pairs cost about $200 new and I paid $65 to get the soles replaced. The sole color didn't match the original but I expected that. My originals were a darker leather but the new ones looked like it was a quality leather. The craftsmanship was clean. No burrs on the soles itself and clean transitions. It was polished and ready at the time I requested. Pretty good experience for my first time. read more

Two generations of my family have used Randhurst Shoe Repair, but no more. They are under new ownership as of June 2022 & I am very disappointed with the shoes they just repaired for me. New rubber soles on a pair of leather shoes have tiny gaps & glue where they are attached. Didn't fix the loose stitching as agreed to, either. Second shoes were supposed to get a new suede insole so they wouldn't be slippery inside, but smooth leather was put in. When I pointed out the issues I got no response. For over 50 YEARS, I have never had any problems w/any former owners at Randhurst Shoe Repair. My last visit w/the latest owner, there WAS A PROBLEM. I went there to pick up a sandal. The cashier or the owner said he could not find my sandal. He told me he will look in the back & for me to come back the next day. I came back the next day, but the cashier told me he could not find it. He told me he will check, again, the next day. I came back the next day. Then, he told me he THRU MY SHOE OUT!!! I only had one sandal there for less than 2 months. The cashier told me that was TOO LONG, yet for 50 YEARS, there was never a problem keeping shoes there for any length of time!! read more

Poor customer service. They do not fulfill their obligations. We went there and back several times because our things were not ready as promised. During the phone call, Arturo mentioned that he will not charge us to repair the bag to compensate for the inconvenience, but made only $ 5 discount and said that "we did not understand him." I don't usually write reviews but I felt compelled this time. Came here to get a leather bag cleaned and polished that was previously used by someone else. It was expensive and sub-par. I paid $35 and they didn't even shake the dust from inside, and I had to have them repolish a part of the outside of it. We spoke to the owner and he was unyielding and a bit rude. I don't know how their shoe repair is, but I brought my leather bag in to be cleaned and refinished and thought that their work was sub par. Despite promising me that the bag would be the same color I got a bag that was MUCH darker than the original. The first time I came to pick it up it looked dirty all over because of the way they colored it, so I had to leave it for them to redo. The guy handing me the bag thought it looked fine but said he could pit another coat of paint on it. I just picked up the "fixed" bag and since it was passable I just took it, since I didn't want them to ruin anything. All the metal buckles and zippers have paint on them (I'm in the process of scraping it off myself) And the handle has patches of no paint (I guess someone picked it up while it was wet and didnt bother yo fix it). Luckily the patches are on the inside and shouldnt be visible when wearing the bag. I gave 2 stars instead of one because, the bag is clean, one color, and the people working there were polite. I would never take another bag there, but maybe I'd come back to get some simple work done on my shoes. ****UPDATE**** I updated the review to one star because the color on the bag is coming off. After bringing the bag home from the shoe repair, I didn't touch it for months, not liking the color. Finally I decided to try it out. After wearing it for 2 WEEKS the paint on the strap wore off (and onto my white winter coat) and the color on the bag is coming off. I just wish that they told me they didn't know how to clean and refinish a leather handbag BEFORE they ruined mine. read more

It's not the flashiest shoe repair shop, but for $12.75 to repair a busted zipper I can't complain. Maybe that's not a good deal, I really don't know... But I dropped the boots off and explained what the problem was, the guy took them and didn't even bat an eyelash, and they were ready when promised. They also have quite a display of shoe-cessories, like polish, inserts, laces, etc. And a massive display of belts, which I guess fits in with the whole shoe/leather thing. I'm thinking that this is the place to go when you need a tricky repair done since the lady in front of me in line had a list of things she wanted done and the guy was just like, "yeah, okay". It made me a little nervous to give my never-worn boots to some random shoe shop (who knows what I could get back... if anything), and I held onto my little blue claim ticket for dear life for about 3 days, but it was so reassuring when I gave them the ticket and there were my boots, just waiting for me to pick them up! Now I'm going through my whole shoe collection, trying to find anything that needs repairs, just to test their skills again! read more

3.5/5 I have an extensive collection of well-maintained, high-quality dress shoes. Being new to the NW suburbs I wanted to find someone to help me with routine upkeep to ensure my shoes have a long life. For me, that means regular heel protectors / heel taps / one of fifty other names. Pros: $3.50/pair installed is the cheapest I've seen anywhere. Cons: The quality of the work is lacking. The point of heel protectors is to sit flush at the back edge of the heel (right-of-center on a right shoe, left-of-center on a left shoe). My shoes came back with the protectors in different places, This is less-than-ideal as you can wear out the part of the heel of a leather sole that you're trying to protect. Also, this is a literally 30 second job that I was asked to return in an hour for (an experience I've never had elsewhere - other shoe shops have made it a point to tell me 'I do it in a couple minutes while we talk') The aftermath: I went in to have the shoes repaired. Ultimately they were moved closer to the edge of the heel but still not where I've seen it before. This time it was done as I wait. Overall I may repeat my business here and be more scrupulous about what I walk out of the shop with, unless I find a competitor that charges a reasonable price. But I would not bring a serious repair job here. read more

A "throwback" to the old time shoe repair shop with a new spin! They do luggage, purses, belts, almost anything which is leather and sewn. I dropped off a favorite soft side suitcase which has been airline-abused to the max - the vinyl edging (piping?) had been chewed up and some areas on the frame was exposed. Randhurst Shoe Repair is replacing it all with LEATHER and their cost is - ready? - $20! OMG I could not believe it. Dropped on a Monday, ready on Friday. Sorry, no good. We took a pair of suede boots here for sole work. They got adhesive all over the suede. Not all that helpful about it either. When asked, basically they said it was unavoidable. Sloppy is never unavoidable, and always inexcusable. read more

This place does a great job. I've been going here for 6 years and have never had to buy a new pair of shoes since I started dropping off 1-2 a year. They can fix anything. A good pair of shoes will last forever when well maintained.
