    Deviled crab

It is certainly a journey getting food from Randy's. Let me tell you: if you don't go knowing what to expect, you might get a little frustrated. We were advised to get there early since it can get busy, so we arrived around 10:30 am (when they open). There were at least 5 others in line before us, and more started queueing up after. The parking lot is almost non-existent: there is a small patch of concrete and gravel next to Randy's that can maybe fit 5 cars max. I suggest you park across the street where you can park comfortably. We waited for about 40 min in line as the folks at Randy's were finishing up the BBQ (or so I assumed... Things weren't really communicated to us, but there was a LOT of smoke emitting from the tent right next to the store). A man started taking everyone's orders about halfway through the wait, so be sure you know what you want to order! (Their menu is posted on their door.) Everyone was ordering a slab so we did too, along with a deviled crab. There's no seating, so everything is takeout (and cash) only. Speaking of which, Randy's does have a nice little ATM right outside for those who didn't think to prepare cash. Anywho, onto the review itself: the deviled crab was delicious and tasted like a $16 crab cake from Maryland (despite being only $3! What a steal!). The ribs were fine. Good deal for the slab - $25 and fed 2 people for 2 meals. The sauce was a blend of ketchup, mustard, and mayo (we asked for sauce on the side). Didn't get to try the chicken this time. All in all, I'd say Randy's is worth going to for the value and the experience.

    The line at 1030am

Well maybe we went at a bad time, because this place always has a long line outside. When I notice a new place I wanna try I do the following: 1. Stalk their Yelp page (yes, tips and ALL) 2. Read the reviews 3. Closely evaluate the pics 4. Read through the menu to make notes So I was so eager to try the Pulled Pork sandwich, BBQ Ribs, and ALL the sides!!! We got there at 10:30 am when they opened and it was already a line YES! Just to put in the order and to find out that "WE ONLY HAVE RIBS TODAY"... Oh I know you lying (in my Southwest Ga inside voice)!!! Got a slab of ribs (not sure why but they were sliced) and only cost $20.00 with the sauce on the side! The ribs were piping hot, needed a bit more seasoning, had great grilled smoke flavor and juicy. The sauce has a thick mustard consistency. I would recommend calling ahead to verify the menu items for that day. I definitely would return to try the sandwiches though...

Great ribs with sauce! No veges available which is a downside. $16 for 2 plates of medium serving Service is pick up only. We waited in a line about 20 min Ambiance??? None but food is great

    Excellent!

I was vacationing in Savannah. Best meal in Savannah hands down. Ribs were great. Sauce was excellent. Get here early at 10:30 and you won't be disappointed. Savannah has some excellent dining options, but Randys was my favorite.

ows the outside of the building

Stood in line for more than an hour and a half in the heat, they never updated anybody, hardly anybody ever got food unless they seem to be friends with the people who run it. Let me stand there for over an hour and a half only for me to find out they were out of chicken because I overheard it from somebody in front of me in line. I don't know how good the barbecue is but it's not be worth the wait I hope that nobody ever goes there again until they learn to appreciate their customers

Half slab - had already eaten the other half
    Jara M.

Amazing. That is what I have to say. We got a full slab - came with a huge container of delicious thick Sauce. Fantastic subtle rub and full on smoky flavor. There was a long line but he moves people through quickly. If you are looking for some fancy sit down place this is not for you. If you are an actual bbq junky then you need to give this a try. It won't disappoint.

    Amanda R.

You'll have to wait in line but it's worth it. 1 slab is about 20 ribs. They cut them for you and slather in sauce! Not a good spot to park or sit. Probably best idea to park across the street and walk over. Have somewhere in mind to eat after you get your food.

In a slight food coma after finishing the most tender rack of ribs covered with a deliciously sweet and tangy sauce from Randy's I got about an hour ago. This is a no frills local establishment, which are some of the best places to eat IMO. The gentleman behind the window was super friendly, which was sweet since I clearly wasn't from the area. I got here around 11:20am on a Wednesday and there were only 2 people ahead of me. By the time I placed my order, there were 4-5 in line. I left with my ribs before 11:30 so while it's good to get there early, they were also pretty quick. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a good local bbq spot outside of the tourist areas. I'll be back next time I'm in Savannah!

Pork was tender and smoky. Great on its own but even better with their sauce! Great amount of pork on the plate. Potato salad was in my top 3! It was creamy and chunky. It had a garlic butter type taste which was Soo good. A must try. Collards were ok but needed a little more seasoning. I added the spicy BBQ sauce and they were good with that. Others had the smoked wings and the 1/4 chicken platter. Wings naked were really good. Chicken was very juicy and flavorful. Service was quick and attentive. Our server was very polite and kept our glasses full as we chugged them down from beach dehydration. Located in a strip center in Whitemarsh. Don't drive by and miss this great BBQ.

Our server was a younger guy who was in training but you would have easily assumed he was a pro. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and confident when fielding the questions we had about the menu. We ordered a Half Slab portion of their St Louis Cut Ribs platter with fries and mac-and-cheese as a side & the 1/2 Chicken platter with Brunswick Stew and mac-and-cheese as a side. Both proteins were tender and well seasoned. Both were served with a piece of buttered Texas toast. Their original and Better than Sex sauces were great additions to the flavors! The mac-and-cheese was creamy and delicious. Not my favorite Brunswick Stew but it satisfied the craving that I had.

The whole place is designed to feel like the inside of a trailer--spray-painted antique chandeliers, old pictures of different trailer parks, and random little details everywhere. It's kitschy, but very intentional, and honestly pretty cool. We came in late after a 4h drive into town after work, and the staff was still super friendly and accommodating. No "we're about to close" energy, which I appreciated. We started with the creamy collard dip, which is basically their take on spinach-artichoke dip, but with collards. Really good. I do think the chips were a little too heavy for the dip--a thinner chip would've been perfect--but that's a small note. The chicken pancake tacos were probably my favorite. The chicken was fried perfectly and still really moist. And at this point, I'm convinced Savannah just knows how to cook chicken. Everywhere we went, the chicken was consistently good. My partner got the grilled apple pie sandwich, which has fried chicken, grilled apples and bacon. He's not even a big pork person, but that bacon was so crispy and the whole combination just worked. Even the waffle fries were good--crispy, fresh and actually seasoned. We had the Grateful Dead and Wicked Kiwi cocktails, plus a couple of shots, and the drinks were strong, good and reasonably priced. Honestly, I don't have a ton of notes here. It's not trying to be some elevated dining experience. It's just a really good late-night spot with good food, strong drinks, friendly service and a fun atmosphere. We sat inside because Savannah in August was not about to have us sitting on anybody's patio. Definitely recommend, especially if you're looking for somewhere to eat late. It was a vibe, the food was good, and it did exactly what it needed to do.

Before our trip, one of my fraternity brothers told me that if I wanted some of the best Southern soul food in Savannah, I had to visit Mrs. Wilkes. He also warned me that there would be a long wait. Let me just say--he was absolutely right on both counts! We arrived at the restaurant and stood in line outside in the rain. We didn't get seated until 1:00 PM. Normally, I would not wait that long for a meal, but for the record, and I can't believe I'm saying this--it was worth every minute of the wait. The experience was unlike any restaurant I've ever visited. My wife and I were seated at a large table with approximately eight other people whom we had never met. Yet within minutes, it felt like we were dining with family. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and filled with genuine Southern hospitality. The food was simply outstanding. Every traditional Southern dish you can imagine was brought to the table and passed family-style from person to person. The home-cooked flavors reminded me of the meals many of us grew up enjoying. Everything was delicious, and the desserts were just as impressive. What made the experience even more special was the sense of community. People of different backgrounds and races were dining together, sharing food, conversation, and fellowship. The staff worked together seamlessly and went out of their way to make every guest feel welcome. While we waited in line, a gracious lady shared the history of the restaurant and the legacy of Mrs. Wilkes herself. The staff even provided umbrellas to guests who didn't have one--including me--which was a thoughtful gesture that spoke volumes about their commitment to customer service. From the food, to the hospitality, to the rich history and unique family-style dining experience, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room exceeded every expectation. If you're visiting Savannah, this is not just a meal--it's an experience. I proudly give Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room a 5 out of 5-star rating and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Savannah.

I rolled down the windows because I could tell somebody was making BBQ, and the smell made us both perk up. We drove by and said to one another that we should try that sometime, because it smelled amazing, then we made it one street down and both agreed we needed to turn around and try it today. There was free parking at the church across the street, and the second we parked and crossed Waters to check the place out, we were greeted by clouds of decadent-smelling smoke billowing out from the screened porch attached to the building. I told my wife that I hoped we would smell like that smoke all day. The place was packed when we walked in, but it turned out everybody had ordered and was just waiting for their food to come out, so another customer told us to wait by the register, and about 15 minutes later we ordered a large combo plate and were given a ticket with a number to be called out when our food was ready. 10-15 minutes after we ordered, our number was called, and we took our bag (which felt like it weighed 5 lbs) and walked it back to our car across the street. We opened up the container just to get a sample before heading home, and ended up eating nearly the entire meal in the car, trying our best not to spill sauce everywhere but really not caring either way. The combo plate came with two chicken legs, about 3/4 of a rack of pork ribs, a side of baked beans, and two slices of classic white bread. It usually comes with potato salad, too, but neither of us are huge potato salad fans. However, we will try it next time, because I imagine they could put a shoe in a container and it would taste amazing given their cooking skills. The pork ribs were the most tender ribs I've ever had in my life. I've always said that it doesn't matter how easily the meat falls off the bone, but rather how easily it melts in your mouth when you've taken a bite. These ribs melted in your mouth. The chicken was equally delicious. The meat was tender and juicy, and--somehow--there was actually crispy skin on part of it, which had audible crunch when bitten into. The sauce was incredible. You can ask for it to be put on your ribs and chicken, or--like we plan to next time--buy a bottle to go. It's a mix of mustard and vinegar based, which is hands down my favorite. I grew up in upstate SC where you can find both options, but having them all in one was a dream come true. The baked beans were a great, sweet break from the chicken and ribs, and a slice of classic white bread is always great for soaking up extra sauce. I can't recommend this spot enough. Oh, and local, family-owned! We will 1000% be back.

Looking back, we probably should've kept right on walking. We ordered the fried chicken, potato wedges, red rice, New Orleans rice, and cabbage, jalapeno cornbread and pecan cornbread. Unfortunately, the only things we actually enjoyed were the fried chicken and the potato wedges. Once again, it was an epic fail. The cabbage tasted like it had been boiled in plain water with absolutely no seasoning. Both the red rice and the New Orleans rice reminded us of Minute Rice or Uncle Ben's microwavable rice--bland, lacking flavor, and nothing like the rich, seasoned rice dishes we were expecting. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the potato wedges were cooked perfectly, but those two items weren't enough to save the meal. We came hoping for authentic Southern comfort food, but left disappointed. Sadly, this is one restaurant we won't be adding to our list of places to revisit.
