It will take some time to get your food if you get the fried chicken but it is worth it! It's cooked fresh to order. Hubby ordered the ox tail special with mash potatoes, green beans, mac and cheese. Daughter ordered four piece fried chicken with sweet potatoes, and I ordered the three piece fried chicken with greens. Some of our sides were an upcharge but it was worth it. Upon arriving in Savannah, we were looking for a good local spot to eat and stumbled across Geneva's Famous Chicken & Cornbread Co. Looking back, we probably should've kept right on walking. We ordered the fried chicken, potato wedges, red rice, New Orleans rice, and cabbage, jalapeno cornbread and pecan cornbread. Unfortunately, the only things we actually enjoyed were the fried chicken and the potato wedges. Once again, it was an epic fail. The cabbage tasted like it had been boiled in plain water with absolutely no seasoning. Both the red rice and the New Orleans rice reminded us of Minute Rice or Uncle Ben's microwavable rice--bland, lacking flavor, and nothing like the rich, seasoned rice dishes we were expecting. The fried chicken was crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned, and the potato wedges were cooked perfectly, but those two items weren't enough to save the meal. I was visiting from out of town and discovered this spot on TikTok, so I decided to give it a try. There was a slight wait to be seated, but once we were at our table, our server greeted us promptly and took our order without issue. The food did take about 30 minutes to come out, which was a bit longer than expected. Overall, I'd rate the food a 3.9 out of 5;it was good, but not quite exceptional. One thing to note is that there's a 2% fee added for dining in, and some of the menu prices felt a bit on the higher side. Heck yeah. This place is more than worth the stop if you're passing through Savannah and good luck if you're a local because you're about to fall in love! This place has possibly the best fried chicken I ever experienced. Shatter-crisp, thin breading hiding the juiciest meat beneath, if you poke it before you bite in, you will likely send a river of juices flowing. To put it plainly- I am on ozempic now and it obviously affects my appetite.... The ozempic is no match for this chicken that was so flawless that I managed to power through and still put down four pieces. Did I suffer later? Yes, I sure did. Did I regret it? Not at all, life needs living and this chicken is life. Skip the potato logs, it's a waste of a side option with the many other choices. Yes, obviously you need to get the cornbread too. Beyond expectations.. we pulled up all I noticed was more and more people going inside and we walked in and would you believe it we were sitting next to Geneva and just having a normal conversation with her. Not to be dramatic but Geneva's fried chicken was the best fried chicken I have had in my entire life! I got the mac and cheese and blueberry cornbread. Incredible! My son had oxtail which he said was the best he ever had too. This restaurant is at an unassuming location in a shopping center. I drove 20 minutes from downtown, as was having a craving for fried chicken and Geneva's was recommended by several people. I arrived at 6 pm (did I mention it was 6 pm). There are about six or seven people waiting for their to go orders. The young lady at the first registers asks if I want to place a to go order, I answered yes and she gestures me to the to go person. I start to order and the young lady with the tight braids just says HOLD ON! Then she turns and goes "we aren't taking any more orders." I said HUH, quite befuddled. "I said we ain't taking any more orders" as she hold up her hand. Not, we are out of such or such, or its going to be 15 minutes so the kitchen can get caught up. Nope, we are not going to take YOUR order. They had literally just taken one before me. Offended does not describe how I felt or how ridiculous this situation was. Rude, just rude. I drove 20 minutes to an open restaurant and was just unceremoniously turned away. I understand if you are behind, then take a break. I will run to Staples and come back. But they are just rude. Your restaurant lives and dies by your front of staff. I will not be back, I will not recommend this and there is nothing they can say to apologize. Do not go to this restaurant. Regardless, the chicken was crisp, juicy, and simply phenomenal! The rest was fairly mid and skippable. Staff were nice, but much of the cornbread menu was unavailable when we went, as they had only 2 options to choose. I didn't inspect the box at the restaurant and that was my fault.
