I decided to get dinner at this spot due to the great reviews on Yelp. I had just spent a few hours walking around the downtown area and was starving. They have a small parking lot that wasn't full. As soon as I exited the car I was warmly greeted by on their employee. NYC would never, loll. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant did have a few tables and chairs to sit and eat. However, it looked more like a take out spot. They had a small area where the food was kept and you get to see what suited your fancy. I decided to get the barbecue chicken, mac and cheese and collard greens. The prices were fair. The food was delicious. The chicken and collards were nicely seasoned. I wasn't a fan of the Mac and cheese that was too cheesy and lacked seasoning. However I still enjoyed my entire meal. I would definitely return to check out some other menu items. read more

This review is way past due but I waited quite a long time to try Munchies. It's a small atmosphere but the flavor of the meat and sauce definitely packs a punch. They were polite when I called and answered my questions as well so the service was good. I wasn't so heartbroken at the greens because it's very rare that someone actually knows how to cook greens, however, I did expect more from the macaroni and cheese. I ordered the large rib meal that comes with two sides. I chose Mac and baked beans and I added a side of Collard Greens. The sauce, ribs and baked beans were so good that they canceled out just how bad the greens and Mac were. I'd most definitely come back for the ribs and sauce alone though. Maybe next time I'll try baked beans and potato salad as my combo, but I promise if you come here and try their meat and bbq sauce (the chicken was just as good) you'll thank me later!! read more

This is such a gem if you're looking for soul food. I ordered my food to go and it's setup like a buffet inside but they serve the food. I got the pig feet combo which came with loads of rice, and I got the Mac and cheese with the greens. I'll be honest because isn't that the point?!?!?! This is definitely a dive. Tables are sticky and the spot is small. They said they accommodated 30 people, but NOT. The floors are sticky and dirty. The seafood salad and Jambalaya are sweet. Been searching for great soul food in the area since Mrs. Wilkes stopped taking "to-go" orders!!! Yes, I've finally found my spot... The chicken snack was fall off the bone delicious and my mouth waters just thinking about it!!! The Mac & cheese was 5 star and I wanted more, but my hips didn't need it... The oxtails are "The Best" I've had since my sweet soulful granny transitioned!!! I'm coming back just for the oxtails alone ;-) The ribs were 4 out of 5 stars. They were well seasoned, and the meaty parts were good, but the ends were a bit dry. The greens were cooked with smoked rib pieces and were okay! Not my favorite... The bbq sauce was not my thing either, but I keep my Stubbs on me at all times... I'm definitely coming back to try the Turkey wings and the seafood items (sold from Thursday to the weekend)!!! Munchies is no longer serving food out the front and now just served BBQ-oil food out of the back door. A young girl is set up with hot trays and you are served gigantic portions of already prepped food so you are in and out in a flash. The amount of food you get is enormous -get it to split for 2. We got the ribs which had to be nearly a half rack. They are sliced in a way that you get these soft knobby bones to suck around the bones. They make their own mustard based sauce which is asked if you want. It's is much sweeter than typical mustard based bbq sauce. The green beans and collards were laced with plenty of marrow and meat which and Ethel super filling to eat. For my taste buds the greens and collards were a bit sweet but my hubby did not think so. The Mac and cheese was just like moms. My hubby got pig feet and they sauce served with them made the perfect dirty rice. He was super happy. The drinks they serve are sweet tea or lemonade. The lemonade was so sweet I could not drink it. The yellow cake with chocolate frosting was very good. It has a whipped cream meets canned frosting flavor in a good way. But it was cold and tasty. Would recommend it. The staff was very friendly and the indoor seating provided 3 TVs of different choices of shows. Every thing is packed to go unless you specify. They take cash or card. It seems like Munchies is open a lot, as every time I drive by the business it appears someone is inside or in front of the building. It is located across from Wells Park and adjacent to a convenience store that is open 24/7. The great news is that when Munchies is open (Tuesday - Sunday) it serves a very delicious variety of chicken and ribs in their top-secret mustard-based sauce. Even though the sauce is mustard based, it tastes sweet and compliments the meat. I have eaten the chicken and ribs several times, and I am always more than satisfied with the taste and quality of the dishes. They are known for their inexpensive and popular "plates" (choice of meat and light bread) and "dinners" (one side and light bread). On the days it is closed, the smokehouse is occupied by cooks and numerous persons as it is loved by the locals. It is strictly take-out, and you can order ahead to decrease your wait time. In my opinion Munchies is definitely one of the top three BBQ joints in Savannah. Stop by if you have a chance. read more

Came here on New Year's Eve after driving around Savannah looking for local eats. The entire meal, from start to finish, was a KNOCKOUT! Customer service was great as well, it felt like we were family in there. I had the oxtails with mac and cheese and collards, hubby had the BBQ chicken with collards and greens beans.
