Do restaurants try what they put on menus???Fish tacos: Pre breaded frozen fish...amazingly flavorless. Dumped hot sauce on them to give them some kind of flavor. With the prices being charges restaurants have to make sure they don't serve barely edible dishes. I haven't eaten here in a long time so I was anticipating a better experience. Menu selection is not what it used to be. The waitress did not think to advise a specific item we ordered wasn't available until after 2pm. She waited 20 minutes after we ordered to tell us. She also had a snide comments for when I asked her why it took 20 mins to tell us the item wasn't being served yet. Then she doesn't take the item off the bill, probably thinking we wouldn't catch it. She was excellent at slamming plates and glassware back on to the table. I get your busy but slow down a little when you are actually serving your guests. Food is slow out of the kitchen. The coffee tasted burnt. I do not recommend the chips and queso. It's not very hot and was not melted fully. The chimichanga meat did not have any seasoning. I will say the green Chile was good. Which bumps the experience up to 2 stars read more

I want to like local places so badly. And, to their credit, most of them exceed my expectation. However, every time I leave a Range Café, I can't help but feeling like I just left a chain restaurant. The food is meh, the presentation is okay. Everything is just...good enough to not be bad? Yikes. The best thing about The Range is the atmosphere - they have NAILED IT. It's delightful and funky, with upside down lamps for overhead lighting and specialized cow sculptures. Epic levels of charming quirk. This particular location was well done and on theme. It makes you want to like it so much! The most forgettable thing about the Range is everything else. The staff is busy and doesn't have time to provide quality service, the food is made quickly without attention to detail. It feels like chain restaurant food, and that's not a compliment. When you have GENIUS level local marketing (they sell a shirt that looks like it has an eye test on the back, but actually says "E the food was all good eh" you should have food that is actually all good. I keep waiting for The Range to live up to it's own hype, but it hasn't yet, and I'm sad. read more

I really like the Range Café and I've always liked the range café! Once in a while I run into someone who says "I don't like them" and I can't ever figure out why... their food is homestyle, yet not old school. it's almost always made with all fresh ingredients,it's got a homemade taste, and they have progressive options such as vegetarian and gluten-free. (There's not enough gluten-free options in there pastry items, as far as I'm concerned there's room for improvement there) but there are several gluten-free options in the meals. Also they have a really nice seating environment. There's one other place that there's room for improvement is that they don't have a patio at any of their locations. And we found out during a pandemic that can be a big problem. I've always been a big patio advocate in New Mexico because we have such great weather in NewMexico. Even in the winter it's nice to sit outside between about 1 & 5 in the afternoon. So that's another place that, well maybe, they could design working patio space into their restaurants in the future (like Flying Star, El Patio, and El Pinto, and some of the others...) read more

This is one of my breakfast & dinner go to's. This is a place you NEED to eat at either as a local or if you're visiting the state for the first time. I have tried a dozen things off the menu (including cocktails) and I've been impressed every time. It's good food, it's affordable, and the restaurant is unique to Albuquerque. My breakfast order is always the blue corn pancakes, it's combines traditional New Mexican ingredients (blue corn, pine nuts with blueberries) into a breakfast stable. Truly the best in city in my opinion. It's warm and sweet and just fuels your soul. You can never go wrong with huevos rancheros, range chicken, or papas con carne. Only downside is that they used to have breakfast 24 hrs but the hours have shortened to 2 pm. Regardless, I just brought to friends from Houston to try it out and they were very impressed! We ended up sitting at the bar and the bartenders run a little slow and are short staffed at this location. But patience is rewarded with a great meal! read more

Freshly made? Very questionable. My order of meatloaf was completely over burnt AS SEEN IN PHOTOS PROVIDED. I was totally upset with my order that was brought to me. Honestly how can they say (freshly made)??? Not mine. I couldn't eat as much as I wanted to due to the dried out food on my plate as seen below. I should of brought this issue up with the waitress, but she was very busy trying to organize seating for other patrons. My husband refused to give me the recipe. But I'm assuming this item might of costed about $12. So I told him if this happens again I will have him fix it issue. It was very busy, but it was also the last weekend of the 2018 Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, so we believe that is the reason for it's being so busy. The food was very delicious. I went here to have lunch as I heard they were serving St. Patrick's Day dinners. I ordered the classic corned beef and cabbage which came with potatoes and carrots. It was very disappointing. One small slice of carrot, two thin slices of corned beef, which, after the you cut away the fat, was barely one full slice. Lots of cabbage, one slice of apple, 2 potatoes. For $18.95, it was a rip off. Service was excellent, which is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 2. The staff was nice and the item I got was good. My plate had a biscuit with a meat base on top and that topped with an egg and some sauce. I would like to give a huge shout out to The Range by Cottonwood Mall. We went today to have lunch and some guy tried to steal my daughters purse. As he was running out and I was yelling stop him the employees and unbelievable patrons went into action! We retrieved the purse also with the guys jacket, cell phone and hotel key but no guy. The police were called along with an ambulance for the older gentleman that was hurt when this POS pUshed him running out the door. I would like to thank everyone especially Cayla the manager and Austin who really went above and beyond their job description. They made sure we were all ok, remade out food and even bought us lunch. I came here for the highly recommended burger, and fortunately the burger was delicious because everything else was atrocious! I asked for the beer list on arrival and was told they were looking for the one and only in circulation. A server dropped it off, that was cool so I was able to enjoy my beer and I felt very fortunate not to have ordered a cocktail after watching the bartender for a few minutes. He attempted to make small talk with me about the balloon fiesta but was interrupted during our conversation by the hostess reminding him that he forgot about a table in the 40s, he verbally confirmed that he forgot that he had a table in the 40s. A different server approach the bar and I couldn't help but overhear the bartender questioning if this was a house old fashion on the ticket. after watching the bartender muddle an orange wheel and a cherry with Jim Beam bourbon I had to double check and see if the house recipe was really that awful. Nope, The house recipe called for makers mark on the menu and an orange rind so not only did the bartender cheat the consumer out of call whiskey that they would expect by ordering this drink, he also muddled all the fruit. Pick up a copy of the New York bartenders guide and learn how to make a classic old fashion, I think the Motel 6 housekeeping department could make a better one. I also came to the bar hoping to catch some of the Sunday NFL game while I enjoyed the spectacular burger so I asked the bartender to turn on NBC, on any of the three TVs behind the bar. One TV was an ESPN basketball highlights , one was turned off and the other TV was on a static logo. 30 minutes later when I closed out my check, he still has not turned it on because he's too busy making crappy cocktails. Another large tattooed female server approached the bar and was complaining to the bartender that it wasn't busy, the bartender was complaining that it was too busy.... And at some point the table that was sitting behind me also complained that his order was not correct. I looked around constantly hoping to see a manager, but never once saw anybody on the floor that represented a manager. I asked on the way out and was told the manager is in the back....Chefs belong in The back, managers belong on the floor at 6pm...FYI. There are two hostesses scheduled, but it takes two to seat the table because one carries the menus and the other one carries the silverware leaving the front desk unattended.... A manager might notice this if they ever step foot on the floor. Overall, this place absolutely sucks and thank God the burger was delicious, hats off to the cooks in the kitchen who get no accolades ever because your counterparts upfront make your restaurant somewhat of a joke. Get your manager off her ass and out of the office for starters, hopefully somebody else will have a better experience from this review because I certainly won't be back. read more

Ate here for lunch today and I loved it! I ordered the turkey dinner plate which was delicious! It's essentially thanksgiving dinner but with green Chile gravy on top. The cranberry sauce was delicious! Homemade and had a hint of orange cinnamon which I though gave a nice flavor. The hubs got a turkey green Chile club and that was also delicious! He also decided to order a side of red Chile and pour over the fries. 100% recommend! It was delicious! My 2 girls loved there meals off the kids menu. One burger and one quesadilla and they feel it was cooked perfectly which is agree. The decor of this place is very cute! Nice casual ambiance and the server was very very friendly! We finished it off with a chocolate covered cream puff which I thought was pretty good for a diner cream puff ! Overall I love this place and will be back because there is something for everyone! I also can't wait to try their dinner menu it looks like they have a great cocktail list and can't go wrong with the food! I really want to love this place, as it's right in our neighborhood, but my wife will not come back here with me. Why not? The last couple of times we've dined at this location the food has just not been up to par. Today, she ordered sausage biscuits & gravy, with a side of bacon. Her entire plate was cold including the 2 nicely over easy eggs on top. Back to the kitchen. Soon her plate returns and everything is sizzling hot. Was this because Chef Mic refired it? Nuking gravy like that yields "broken" gravy. The result is off-putting. I know it would have taken much longer to make the meal over again & make sure the plate is warm before you put hot food on it. The little bit she tasted left her feeling a bit nauseous. Not optimal. I had their special breakfast tacos, a very tasty combo of omelette eggs, chorizo sausage, salsa & guacamole on the side, served on soft flour taco shells. Oh, their coffee is exceptionally delicious--perhaps the best in ABQ! Our server, Fabian, was excellent: personable and attentive. He apologized about the cold food & took it away graciously. It's hard to blame the server if the kitchen is at fault. This is a big, successful regional chain. Their flagship store in Bernalillo, NM just seems to do a better job, at least when we've eaten there. If I could call it a complaint it would be that the portion sizes are too big for your standard American as I would call my self . The server did offer the kids menu for us as an option and did admit that the portions are large . We will definitely be back when we travel down south to abq. read more

This place is really dusty and seems to not be very clean for being a restaurant. The walls in the bathroom look very dirty liked they haven't been wiped in weeks and their was cob webs above our table which was unappetizing. On the other hand the service was very friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was really great and helpful. They do give you really large portions for a decent price. Came in for breakfast and had the New Mexico Benny. Its really delicious and cooked perfectly. The sauce was just right and the eggs were poached well. My BF had their Breakfast Burrito and added Chorizo inside. He requested to have the sauces on the side but never used them. The sauces came and were both warm. I think if you drenched the sauces, it would lose the flavor of the breakfast burrito itself. The hostess and server were super nice. Great customer service! This is a small restaurant and they have a Full Bar area! I have been to their other chain restaurants but prefer this one because of the location and their great customer service. We are a party of three, we arrived at 12:20. We were seated immediately, which was great, but things went down hill from there. The service was so bad that I wished I had just ordered pickup. Sadly, the food was not better. The Deviled Eggs Benedict were cold. My friends brought us here for lunch on our last day in ABQ. By this point, we'd eaten ourselves sick with New Mexican food and other amazing things, so I was relieved to find what appeared to be a more normal restaurant. The whole experience was great: ambiance, service, and food. Even if the waiter was actually a little too friendly, to the point of being creepy. I ordered a New Mexican taco salad with carne adovada, which was really delicious. I know I said I was tired of New Mexican food but this was different from the burritos and everything else we've been stuffing ourselves with for three days! The lettuce was fresh, the toppings were tasty, and the meat was absolutely excellent. My husband ordered a meatload sandwich with onion rings and the friends ordered blue corn pancakes and a tuna melt. Everyone said their dishes were great, no complaints. While I won't give 5 stars because it just wasn't that amazing, out of this world quality food, I will give a solid 4. Prices were also reasonable, which is always nice. read more

Loved to eat at this cute restaurant! Really disappointed that I can't seem to get the New York Strip and Eggs anymore.. Decided to try something new this evening. I had Huevos Rancheros w Xmas, my other half had a shredded beef Chimichanga w green. My husband was so thrilled by his Chimi and I was satisfied by my Rancheros. However, I'll say the blue corn definitely was a turnoff.. it was quite soggy but also burnt at the edges. Thought I'd try and give this place another go! Although food was tasty, we seemed to have been assigned a server that had a real attitude problem, and clearly didn't want to be there. Except for taking our order, he had no interest in providing us ongoing service. There were times we had to ask for butter and water several times, and he proceeded to slam it on the table. The proverbial straw was when my mother asked for a coffee drink, which IS on the menu, and asked for extra foam (which they have done in the past) and the server informed my Mom "yeah, we don't make Starbucks drinks". At which point, my Mom showed the server the menu and stated it was on the menu. It wasn't until check time/tip time, did the server start showing interest in the table, at the very end. TOO LATE!!!!! After a horrible dining experience, we've decided we will not be back. This was NOT the first time, either. My father gave the majority of his tip to charity and left a paltry tip for the abysmal service. Hopefully, there will be some attitude adjustments and much-needed training for some of those servers. With Nick and Jimmy's closing, perhaps the Range Cafe can pick up some servers who recently lost their jobs, and who WANT to work. read more

I had the red chile shrimp linguine, and there was less sauce and chile than I anticipated, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Loved the pinons on it.
