We really love this option at Sandia. It gives us a chance to have a comfy dinner at a good price. The service has always been really solid. The cheesesteak was awesome! The bread was perfect for this sandwich; that's not always the case. The Council Room Platter has all of the New Mexican favorites and is hearty enough for leftovers. The taquitos are a pass. The guac and salsa are awesome but the actual taquitos are the same thing you can get from the grocery store. I'm sure there are better options for starters. read more

I hadn't been here in years so decided it was a good place to meet up with a friend and give it a try. The place is nice and closer to the conference area so away from the noise and bustle of the casino which made for a nice quiet meal. Service was excellent and the food was quite good. I got the green chile chicken enchiladas and they really hit the spot. The portion was huge so I ended up taking a big chunk of it home for later. If you're looking for a nicely decorated quiet spot in casino land i suggest giving it a try. I'm glad I went back and will be adding this place back to my list of places! read more

After winning big in the Casino at Sandia, my girlfriend and I went to have steak dinners at a medium fancy restaurant. We were looked over by a nice waiter named Tom. Tom brought me a nice glass of NM blonde beer and it was pretty good. He also brought out chips and salsa, which we lightly snacked on due to the want for a good meal. My girlfriend ordered an impressive shrimp cocktail and she enjoyed every bit of it. I ordered a 14oz steak medium with broccoli and twice baked potato. She ordered a filet mignon, with mashed potatos and a nicely sized salad. I got out of my comfort zone and ordered a tropical mojito with mango flavored vodka and other mango elements. It was surprisngly delicious. Overall, it was a great experience eating there and after doing well in the casino we both earned it. We started out at a local favorite restaurant. It was super busy when we arrived on a Monday evening. No reservations and a 50 minute wait. What do you do when you are hungry and the sweet little hostess tells you that there is a minimum wait for almost an hour? You, of course, start thinking about all the options in ABQ. No question, we headed for Sandia Resort & Casino. Usually we just head for drinks & the "games". No wasting time on an actual sit-down meal. But tonight was different. So we selected "The Council Room". A restaurant know for its soft ambience and quiet relaxing atmosphere. It had been a long, but successful day. We needed a really good dinner and a quiet place to enjoy it. We were rewarded with both. Excellent dinner and more than excellent service. Our server was Nisai, a quiet unobtrusive older gentleman. Friendly, but not over the top teenager. We were grateful for his professionalism. And our meals were perfect. We were happy. Very happy. (Also it was the first time I've been to the Sandia Casino that I didn't feel the need to pump a few dollars into a gambling machine or table.) On a recent staycation at the Sandia Resort, we enjoyed the Council Room's breakfast so much the first day, we went back for the second! Hubby had the banana pancakes both times and continues to rave about them, asking when we can go back. I had the strawberry pancakes the first day, and the strawberries were deliciously fresh sliced berries, not the macerated gunk most places use. Thick and fluffy and not overly sweet, they were definitely delicious. I had the breakfast sandwich the second day, and it was perfect. The toasted rustic bread was divine, just the right texture to serve as foundation for the eggs and green chile sausage. And oh, man, that green chile sausage is so good. Coffee was smooth and tasty, service was attentive and quick. Prices were fair. We're looking forward to going back one weekend soon! read more

I think there's a little bit of an identity crisis happening here. Maybe because their buffet is closed and they're trying to add items to their menu for casual dining but the selection is interesting. On one hand they have steak and lobster and salmon but then, they have "platos" (that are very pricey - $17 for 2 tamales) which have zero heat or New Mexican flavor or you have omelets, meatloaf and sandwiches. This is one of the only places here to sit and have a meal that's not picnic-style seating so until the buffet opens it's really the only option unless you're willing to wait in a very long line at the quick dining and eat standing up. read more

Here with my wife for her ADDC conference. We ate here twice and enjoyed both meals. She had stuffed sopapillas while I had the hatch chile rellenos during our first visit. Both were good portions. On our second visit, we shared a 14oz ribeye with a loaded baked potato and 2 dinner salads. The steak was cooked to perfection. Paired with Modelo Especial beer and a glass of moscato wine. Located in Sandia Resort and Casino, this is a great choice for dinning in! To explain, Sandia has many food options; including food courts, and bars. Additionally, as of now the buffet is shut down. Arriving after 1 on a Saturday, it was not too busy and the staff was able to accommodate my party of 3 when we arrived. We were served our drinks and complimentary chips and salsa, only minutes after getting settled. Love this place for the ambience . Walk in looking at 2 story windows looking out at th Sandia mountains. The room is decorated with amazing pottery and Indian art. Wonderful photos. The 1st time we ate here was for dinner right after we checked in. While the server was so nice & quick to serve initially, he got harder to keep track of as the meal went on. This would've been okay if order didn't come out completely wrong. I ordered the stuffed sopapillas with spicy chicken but they came stuffed with beef. My husband got a burrito with a side of flour tortillas & they gave us a side of sopapillas. We ate it anyway because it seemed like they were severely understaffed. While you do get a lot of food, it was pretty pricy for just okay quality. Our 2nd encounter with Council Room was for a room service breakfast. Admittedly the fault could lie with the hotel and not the restaurant staff, but I figure the kitchen must have some hand in this error. We ordered pancakes with a side of ham & a breakfast burrito. Worst room service I've ever received; the delivery woman didn't bring it into our room or set up any aspect of it, & told us the food was in the bottom as she ran out. After I looked past the disgusting interior of the room service cart that had empty gas cans (sure this is a liability to have hotel guests messing with flammable gas), we found out they only delivered my pancakes & forgot my husband's completely. Our 3rd encounter was on our last day for breakfast before check out. I can say this dining instance went more normally with our breakfast burrito & french toast order. No issues to report. For being the flagship restaurant of the resort, the service needs to be pumped up big time. We were so disappointed it has me teetering on whether I'd ever stay at the hotel again since you'd definitely be eating at least one meal here. With so few dining options in the resort operating at full capacity, they need to make this improving this place a priority. read more

The service was really good. The waitress I had was nice and attentive. The food was good but I was expecting more of a steakhouse. They have Mexican food, drinks, some American food, and breakfast served in the morning. Not a bad place to visit, I ordered the steak with mashed potatoes and a Cesar salad. The food here is amazing! I actually like the steaks and prime rib here better than up at the rooftop restaurant. I've had almost every dish on the menu from the breakfast to the sandwiches to dessert. My wedding reception from my first marriage was even here back when they had the wine room (where the coffee place is now located). Tonight I had the prime rib with salad (sans croutons) and the seasonal veggies while the husband had their famous green chile meatloaf with salad, garlic mashed potatoes, and veggies. The food was again fantastic! I highly recommend it! The only reason for less than 5 stars is that our waitress disappeared after we received our food. This place has a good, relaxing atmosphere. The service here is usually pretty decent and I've never had any complaints. This time I ordered the St. Louis ribs, which were very good. There's just the right amount of sauce with a tiny bit of spice. The meat is very tender and is able to be pulled off the bone with a fork. The ribs come with cole slaw, fries, and pinto beans! I opted to substitute the beans for seasonal vegetables which were just peas and carrots which was a bit disappointing. I expected much more of a medley, but it wasn't bad. This place can be kind of pricy, but I definitely don't recommend ordering anything over 25 bucks from this restaurant. If you want to spend that much on food, I would personally choose another restaurant! But if you enjoy the casino atmosphere, then this is a great restaurant to have a nice dinner! read more

My sisters and I were invited from out of town, my grandparents had a meal voucher on St Patty's Day and they treated us to a lovely dinner, we got to spend it with our family and the food was excellent :) So...the food. The green chile stew is HIGHLY recommended. A bit spicy, I wouldn't pass it up though since the flavor is perfection. My main dish was the sun dried tomato penne pasta, which is topped with grilled shrimp and it was just delicious. The servers were really attentive, super nice. This is a great place to go for a burger! Every single time I've gotten the burger here I have never been disappointed. You can get a burger for $13 and add virtually any topping you want for no extra charge. I highly recommend you get the burger when you go there. However last night I got the salmon plate, and must admit that it was only average. The salmon didn't have much taste & was a little dry. The people that I was with ordered the ribeye topped with mushrooms & it was good, but it was the side of green Chile mashed potatoes that made the plate. They are to die for! They have a decent selection of local beers! I always get terrific service when I dine here, that might be because I am a frequent flyer, but seriously have never had a problem with service. We sat in a booth, the seating was comfortable. There was a screaming child 1 table over, I should have had the hostess seat us farthest away to a quieter table. I ordered the Blackened Salmon Niçoise salad, on a previous visit, the salmon portion was bigger. I would have preferred niçoise or kalamata olives instead of black olives. Plus it was missing red onions. The 2 dishes were the Posole soup & pulled pork sandwich. For the posole soup, it came with tortilla bread, but should have been served with pueblo bread. I really hate to leave less then three stars on any local business. But this is one I have too share with you. First the place is very well maintained and very clean as the staff is also. Ok here we go I ordered stake and eggs medium well When I received my meal I got a chard hard stake. Even the waiter looked at it and said "that's not what you wanted" and apologized right away. 15 minutes went by before I got a new one. By then I finished my meal less the stake. My daughter ordered French fries and it took 30 minutes. Management here needs to make a showing, Now for the good: stake was DELICIOSO!!! Worth the wait? Why Yes it was, and the kids menu is great, staff did a great job, being a former cook for five years I know is was not on the front floor. Kitchen management needs some work. Then we go to the Council Room for a meal. We have spent many holidays, special occasions and "just because" gatherings here. Today is Easter. We got our alcoholic beverage and sat in our usual place-we were there over an hour-we go into the restaurant to have dinner. Our waitress would not let us order another alcoholic beverage at dinner-she said that we had more than one drink in one hour. I had 2 drinks-the rest of the party which was 5 had one drink in an hour and 15 min. She assumed that we all had more than one drink in an hour. I talked to the manager and he backed her up 100% - would not check our receipts proving the number of drinks that we bought. To start with she started out with a bad attitude!!!!!! We tried to order an appetizer but she turned her back and walked away and was never to be seen again. It makes me so sad about the situation but I will never step foot again in that casino or restaurant!!!!!!!!! read more

First time at The Council Room. We have eaten at Thur Shan Buffet and Bien Shur Restaurant. Both lovely places that fit different occasions. The service was great. The waiter made recommendations for food choices and I was not disappointed. I had the NY Strip, which was cooked to perfection. It was accompanied by green chile mashed potatoes. I think this is the second time I've eaten here. The first time was so long ago I don't even remember when or what I had. This second time though was really good. Me and my family decided to eat here for Christmas day. We were going to eat at the buffet next door but the line and price was outrageous. So we decided to eat here since there was only a 20-25 minute wait and the prices were a little better $12-$30 per plate. So me and my daughter decided to share a calamari appetizer and the 19oz ribeye with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. The calamari came with this spicy tomato aioli dipping sauce that was super tasty. The calamari was very fresh and came out nice and crispy. Our ribeye steak came out cooked just the way we like it too. The garlic mash was a little on the dry side but still very tasty. Other's had the burger and chicken wings which also looked very tasty. Overall I would probably come here again but not immediately since this place is still pricey and better to come when we get to use our free comps from the casino. read more

It's not often that I walk out of a restaurant after being seated, if fact I can't remember when it happened last but last night my wife and I walked out of The Council Room. First we went upstairs to Bein Shur and noted about half the tables were occupied. After being told that their kitchen was overwhelmed and we could not order food for at least 40 minutes at the Sandia Resort's roof top restaurant we came downstairs to eat at The Council Room. This is a weeknight at 7 pm, come on! We were seated and given menus in The Council Room and then........ nothing. We waited and looked for a waiter and waited and hoped for a glass of water, a drink, a word that someone would be right with us but no service was available. After about 10 minutes we went to look for the hostess, but she was not at her station. I finally found her in the bar and told her we were leaving and why. The place was full of gamblers so I can only assume that the Sandia Resort could care less about their food service as long as their slots and tables are occupied. 0 stars! read more

We've been eating at (and enjoying) The Council Room for a lot of years so we were super excited when it opened back up. We've been twice this week. Saturday we both ate steak and enchiladas. The steak was perfect. The enchiladas were cold (the cheese wasn't melted.) And both the red and green chile were not like they used too be. New cooks, maybe? Yesterday we had appetizers. The calamari was delicious, as was the aeoli that came with it. ( got another cup because there's a lot of calamari. ) The steak quesadillas were also good...full of tender pieces of steak. The service was a little spotty, we figured that with all the new employees it will take a while to get things really rolling.
