04/13/26 First of all, don't let the other reviews of a "sketchy" area deter you from visiting Vick's Vittles. The area looks old and poor, but near the restaurant, we didn't see anything sketchy. When we were leaving, we did see some homeless people at the main intersection, but we didn't see anything we'd describe as sketchy. We did notice there is a mobile home park behind the restaurant, but there is a wall between the mobile home park and the restaurant parking lot. Even if there were police surrounding the mobile home park, we'd still venture inside to eat. The food is that good. We shared the cowboy breakfast burrito and the Santa Fe pancakes. Both were filling and ridiculously good. The Santa Fe pancakes made with blue corn, roasted piñons, green chili, and cheddar jack cheese were different than anything else we've ever had. I'll admit I didn't love my first bite or two, but the more I ate, the more I wanted. The pancakes are dry, but if you drizzle some syrup, it's the perfect match. The accompanying eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly. The cowboy breakfast burrito is massive, filling, and worth every calorie. Even though we were stuffed, we had to get the peach with green chile turnover. We asked if the turnover is served warm and our waitress replied that she could warm it up for is. I'm not sure that it is normally served warm, but I highly recommend it. The turnover flaky, the glaze was silky once warmed up and the peach with green chile was unique and delicious. Five star service and food. I highly recommend Vick's Vittles and hope that I'm in the area again so I can try more of this delicious food. read more

1 star because you can't give 0. Used to be a great place to eat. Good food., great service, nice environment. Everything's changed. All new staff that clearly don't understand the restraunt business. Went in today for breakfast, seated in the back. Out of sight, out of mind I guess. Took longer than normal to get waited on. Placed our order, had to correct the waitress several time on our order. Waited quite awhile, long enough to need more coffee. None was coming so had to call out to another waitress to get more. Our waitress did come back to bring the coffee. Before she got there we were discussing the fact that the entire staff was new. She must have overheard us and took it as some kind of slight to her. Two minutes later the manager came over to inform us that we were being rude to her server and that she would be taking over our service. After some discussion my wife said, "this is ridiculous, guess we won't be coming here again" the manager said "well I'll cancel your order and you can leave now". We said we didnt want her to cancel our order and she just said have a nice day. So we left. Sooo not the Vicks Vittles of the past. read more

This is a classic rustic diner / cafe with all the kinds of all-day breakfast items you'd expect in New Mexico -- plenty of middle-of-the-road "American" choices, and then lots of Southwestern specialties. And plenty of ways to customize your order to taste and for the size of your appetite. The main drawback, as others have noted, is that the location where they've been for decades has grown steadily bleaker, with a sketchy feel even during broad daylight. I say this as someone who lives in a rural setting but who has lived in some of the biggest cities in the world and as a person who's not easily scared off by "rough" neighborhoods. It's perfectly safe, but you want your wits about you as you come and go. Service is fantastically efficient, friendly, and thorough. Really good food, based on my single experience -- I had a pancake, an egg, and sausage along with coffee, and I ordered the "Santa Fe" style pancake. It's made with blue corn meal in the flour, along with piñon nuts and a little cheese, and it's a very satisfying meal in itself. I left full and ready to go back if I find myself in that part of Albuquerque again with an empty stomach. read more

Upgrading my review of Vick's Vittles Country Kitchen by a star, because the food we were served on yesterday's visit was again notably delicious and piping hot. However - no fault of the restaurant - the area has gotten "challenged" enough that I have a hard time finding friends who are willing to come. I've been coming here for years, since before Mr. Vick took over and vastly improved this down-home restaurant. We used to bring friends here often: it's an approachable menu for out-of-town guests and the no fuss space with kitschy decor that puts everyone at ease. Nowadays I have difficulty getting anyone to come (although I note Vick's Vittles still appears to be doing a bang-up business with lots of folks coming all the time) along with me. Sure the lot has always proven safe, but the terrible location has gotten even worse (not going to go into the issues - we all know them). Nowadays when I suggest Vick's, I'm usually shot down by someone in the group because of this. The serving size and pricing are fine - a value, even, and the food we were yesterday served was tasty and hot. While Vick's chile has always been a little less picante than in many local places, what I got yesterday (after requesting the spicy stuff) was perfectly legitimate. And the other stuff on the plates was done just right. The staff is still efficient and hustling, smiling all the while. They'll get you seated and take care of you fast. If you can handle the drive through the challenged area, your car should be safe in the lot and you'll enjoy the meal at Vick's Vittles. read more

Saturday morning breakfast at this spot was great! Rough neighborhood but fantastic food!! The service was awesome; everyone was so kind and welcoming. My coffee was always be topped off even for a busy Saturday. Got the cowboy burrito with the green chili gravy and loved every bite. It was huge but still manageable for one person. Seated right away and given coffee. That is the only thing they did right. Ordered eggs, toast, bacon, potatoes. Everything on the plate was cold, except for the potatoes. Not lukewarm, but cold. Service was a little slow, and the restroom could use some updating, but the food at Vick's Vittles is on point! We both had the Santa Fe breakfast - two eggs, a choice of bacon, ham, or sausage, and three blue corn pancakes filled with green chile, cheddar-jack cheese, and roasted piñons. We discovered this ABQ gem when we first moved here. And even though its across town from where we live, we keep coming back for the delicious food and great service. The menu is large but has something for everyone. My go to's are the Southwest Benedict (spicy cheese sauce instead of hollandaise sauce...ummm yes please) , the Carne Adovada (NM spicy...like Thai spicy but better) and the Country Breakfast (country fried steak for breakfast? Their menu, is jam packed so be prepared to look! They have some fun menu items like the tamale omelet smothered in chile! I've only visited during breakfast and would like to try lunch. Although they do have a porkchop breakfast plate that is perfect when you need more than the typical breakfast meats. The porkchop is really lightly breaded and fried too. I joined a friend here for lunch on July 28, 2025. There is good signage, and plenty of parking. Staff was friendly and we were seated right away. The decor is casual. The menu has many nice comfort food choices. I had half a tuna salad sandwich with a salad and enchilada soup. As the picture shows, the sandwich had many layers; further the tuna salad had a very nice flavor. The soup overall had a nice flavor and refreshing crunch on the top with the tortilla chips. After our first visit to the Ballon festival ,6 of us mosey down to Vick's Vittles for some huge breakfast's. We had the following: Blue Bonnet Cakes Plate, Out West Omelette with Onions and Avacado, Senior Breakfast Burrito, The Cow Poke, The Ranch Hand Chicken Fried Stake Skillet, and the Tamale Omelete. Speaking for myself , I had the Tamale Omelete. Never had a Tamale inside of a huge Omelete. It came with pinto beans green Chiles, Jack cheese and home fries. I had an English muffin too. I really enjoyed my breakfast as did everyone else. Our server Melissa was excellent . She took care of all our needs. I haven't had the opportunity to do a review post Covid so here we go. We got here before the lunch crowd arrived, so easy to get a place to sit. Server was quick to bring menus and take a drink order - we hadn't sat down yet. We placed our order - Frito Pie and Eggs Benedict with sausage and Country Spuds. Our food arrived quickly and the quality is what we've come to expect. The Frito Pie had plenty of ingredients in the bowl - I hate when the chili & other toppings are gone but there's a 1/2 bowl of dry chips left. Both Frito Pie & Eggs Benedict were delicious. I'm not big on presentation. We just want good food. The biggest reason we keep coming here is the hospitality & quality of food. 3 Stars = A Okay. Nothing was wrong, nothing was bad. This place was okay. The food was not memorable, but it was good. It's a large establishment with friendly staff. Service took a while, but it's because this place was packed. I definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area or have a large party of people (6+). Our waitress was super friendly. I was so excited to try the meat lovers huevos rancheros but I was sadly disappointed. I was expecting an explosion of 3 meat flavors in my mouth but nope. After years, I have brought my own family to meet the owner to introduce my little ones to but unfortunately (Robert) was not in. We were met with the unwelcomed and accusatory wife. Vick's has gone above and beyond the call of duty during COVID times to follow state guidelines and to continue serving delicious food at reasonable prices. The Santa Fe Cakes, loaded with pine nuts, green chile, blue corn, and cheese, continue to be my favorite pancakes in town--but the juicy carne adovada and the tasty breakfast burritos are also top-notch and satisfying. My father-in-law loves the Pumpkin Pecan Cakes, and my husband is a big fan of the Pioneer Omelette and the Country Breakfast (chicken fried steak and eggs). The menu is HUGE! I've looked at Vic's as I've driven by too many times. I'm embarrassed to admit I just got around to visiting this place. As a native, I have no excuse! Get past the neighborhood. Yes, there are some less than desirable folks wandering by. You're not eating in the parking lot. I'm nice you get inside, it's a lot of fun. The decor is pure western and cowboy art covers the walls. I'm bet little kids have a lot of fun with "I spy" here! The food is pure comfort. The menu is huge (too huge, I guess. They've removed some options). We came for breakfast. I struggled to chose between the Shotgun or the Ranch-hand, but settled on the later. This is chopped country fried steak on top of a bed of potatoes with onions, pepper, white gravy and your choice of chili. It was bountiful, fresh, and delicious. My wife enjoyed her omelette. It was big and tasty. Lots of options, fair prices, cool decor and good service. Pretty sure we'll be back! read more

Was going to eat there today with a party of six. Five of us were ready to seat but they demanded all attendees must be present. What gives? They would be placing us at a large table regardless and the restaurant was basically empty. Also noted that two of the people who were present were 80 years old. We walked. Such a silly rule. 4.5 stars Time to update! I saw this was one of the few places in town that has pumpkin pancakes year round, so decided to give it another try. Staff was very friendly. It was surprising how many tables were full even for a weekday morning (on weekends, all party members must be present to sit down). Parking wasn't bad. I liked the western decor and the sounds of country music streaming through the restaurant. I ended up getting the pumpkin pecan pancake breakfast (which actually did have a subtle taste of pumpkin unlike most things that are advertised to be "pumpkin spice" - $10.99 for 3 large pancakes, eggs any way you like, and a choice of bacon, sausage, or ham. The bacon was thick and crisp. We also got the $6.99 regular no meat burrito topped with mild green, coffees, OJ's, and the $11.99 cowboy burrito (which was absolutely massive). The $3.99 cinnamon rolls are also huge and we got it as a treat on the house for it being a birthday. Will definitely be back for the pancakes, it's good to know they exist as an option. Come on fellow Yelpers! This place is 2-3 stars at best. First of all let me say that the invasion of privacy is over the top. Name, phone number, and picture were taken before you could be seated. I expect this is liberal NM nonsense and not the restaurant's fault. My first impression was the decrepit facility. The ceiling was actually falling down. Look at the photos attached. There were exposed wires coming out of the wall at the restroom entries. The sign on top of the building was rusted out. I should have left after all this but morbid curiosity urged me to order food. I ordered a carnitas breakfast burrito smothered in green chile. It came out looking to be fantastic, but when I opened it up I found 90% of the filling to be uncooked hash browns. Its a shame too as the carnitas were tasty - there just were not enough to make a meal. read more
