This was my first time at a Hookah establishment, let alone, A middle Eastern place to eat. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and seated. The waiter was awesome and explained the menu along with the Hooka process. The food was AWESOME although I never had this kind before. The hospitality was remarkable. The manager came to the table a few times to make sure everything was alright. This is a MUST go to place. The atmosphere and environment was too cool. I SURELY plan on going back to Ranoush. I had dinner here and ordered the grill mix with only chicken and shrimp and no beef, the chicken was ok but very dry, the shrimp was not cooked through so I told the server and he brought me some new shrimp which was cooked through this time, but there was no seasoning on it and it was boiled instead of grilled (I was served grilled shrimp the first time). I took the shrimp out of the shell and the shrimps had not been deveined so there was shrimp poop still on it. I had heard of it as soon as I moved to St Louis but I had also been told that with the new ownership the quality has changed to the worst. I have tried this restaurant multiple times: to give it a shot, because the choices of lebanese/levantine food in the area are limited and because sometimes another wanted restaurant was closed. I have tried Ranoush inhouse, as a take away and as delivery. It never fails to disappoint and whatever the cravings I will never be wasting a dollar anymore at that restaurant. 1. food is not fresh at all and even fries are as if they have been re-heated 5 times. 2. hygiene is not at its best. More than once, I have had hair in my food. 3. cooking is very below average and although middle eastern restaurants in the area are limited, Ranoush should not serve as a representation of levantine food at all; some salads are completely distorted and the taste is meagre and not authentic and the chicken shawarma has so many peculiar spices added to it that you feel unwell as you are eating it. Hummos and baba ghannouj which are rather simple are not tasty nor authentic. 4. overpriced for the very poor quality. And inappropriate selling of other items: they allow themselves to sell "pepsi products" at 2.25$ for a small cup of soda they send with delivery (sort of the size of your vending machine coffee cup): either don't sell sodas or sell it appropriately. 5. consistency of poor quality i.e. it was not just once but at least 5 times on different occasions consistently. read more

I went to Ranoush with my boyfriend and a friend for Kirkwood's "Restaurant Week" & we were impressed! When we walked up, we were immediately greeted by our waiter who invited us to sit wherever we wanted. He remained very attentive, friendly, and helpful throughout the entire night. I definitely agree with other reviewers that this restaurant has stellar customer service! Now to the food. The special we took advantage of was wine or beer, an appetizer, and an entree for $20.12. They have a decent selection of wine & beer along with various cocktails. For appetizers, we ordered falafel, kibbeh, and batata harra. My boyfriend really enjoyed the kibbeh (ground meat with spices formed into a ball), though I thought it was under-spiced & tasted like a strange, somewhat dry meatball. The falafel was okay - not NYC street cart good, but definitely above the average middle Eastern restaurant! The batata harra (potato with spices) was awesome! I highly recommend it! For meals, we ordered beef kafta, lamb shish kabob & chicken shawarma. We were all very impressed!! The plates came with a large salad on the side & a delicious (though spicy), side sauce. The dipping sauce was amazing, though initially appeared to be a side of hummus! Don't get confused - this dipping sauce is VERY spicy & if you take a hummus-sized bite, you may be a little taken aback. I loved every bite of my beef kafta & had enough for a second whole meal! The pitas that are served to the table are very flat - unlike Greek pitas - and don't have much flavor, though they are good to wrap your food in & taste the sauces. I really like the food here, good Middle Eastern dishes and generous portions. The vegetarian platter is fantastic to share among a group as an appetizer. It has falafels, fried perfectly,tabouli and babaghanoush among other delicious things. My favorite dishes are the chicken and beef shawerma. The meat is nicely marinated, enough to impart a real flavor but not too much to overwhelm the taste of the meat. The pita bread is always fresh and tasty. Service is a bit inconsistent though, sometimes it is very good and fast and others it can be slow and lackluster. read more

We came upon this place by accident while exploring Delmar. The aroma enticed us to enter. The ambiance immediately welcomed us as did our charming waitress. We were not terribly hungry, so decided to share an entree and appetizer between the two of us - lamb shish kabob, falafel, nan, baklava, and Arabic coffee - fantastic all of it. We were a group of 4 and ordered several apps, a chicken kabob and a lulu kabob. We were disappointed in the kabobs because for $12 per kabob we expected a platter, something with some rice, maybe some veg. Instead it was basically a sandwich, the kabob resting on a single piece of pita with some romaine lettuce on the side. And the lulu kabob, made with ground meat, was really salty, just this side of not being edible. Of the apps, the hummus was the highlight (and folks, it really is pronounced who-moose, not hummus as in hummer- If only people realized how retarded they sound calling it hum mus). We weren't expecting that the eggplant in the stuffed eggplant would be pickled and from a can, also too salty. The spread made with ground nuts and red peppers-can't think of the name was bland and not memorable. Falafel was okay, but was pricey at $5 for 3, maybe 4 pieces. The olive plate included some pickles, all of it tasting straight from the jar/can- a quick marinade in olive oil, lemon and herbs would have been a nice touch. Pita served with the meal was standard issue, thin arabic style, not stale nor fresh, but did the job for scooping. Service was good and the staff is very friendly. I just wish they would put as much effort into the food. Our bill with 2 beers ad 2 cocktails ran $100. Not a princely sum but it was expensive for the food we received. read more

Went here for dinner last week with some friends and was pleasantly surprised to find this place in the loop! The three of us shared the chicken kebabs, lamb kebabs and the mixed grill platter. The food came out on generous plates with the meat on a pita bread and the other half of the plate filled with romaine lettuce and tomatoes and green bell peppers. I really liked that there was so much green! Out of the three dishes, I would have to say the lamb was the best - it was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The chicken, however, was charred and dry and we found ourselves having to layer on a lot of tzatziki (sp?) sauce. The mixed grill platter came with some beef, chicken kabab and grilled shrimp. In our opinion.. it wasn't really worth the $17 when compared to the lamb kebab of the same price. The service was attentive and the ambiance was great. Still think some of the places on Grand are a little better but this place definitely has the better setting. read more

Having lived in the Middle East and having had Middle Eastern food around the world I was disappointed with the food at this establishment. We tried the Mezza for two. The Baba ghanoush was excellent. Everything else on the plate was lacking in flavor. The warak inab (stuffed grape leaves) were dry, the fatayer were the largest I have ever seen and the outside was too doughy. There was a nice crisp crust on the Falfel and kibbeh but it failed to deliver on flavor. Unfortunately I will not be going back. I will have to keep searching the St. Louis area for better Middle Eastern food. read more

If you haven't tried Ranoush recently then you haven't tried Ranoush! The new charcoal grills, glowing right out front by the windows, transform lamb and chicken into tender, juicy morsels of pure delight! Plus, there are homemade pitas made fresh to order that come out so hot and fluffy you can smell the yeast as the steam escapes. The falafel are still the best in town, and the new heart shape adds more crispy edges to dip in the tahini sauce, aka awesome sauce. All these changes were inspired by the owner's recent trip to the Middle East to visit friends. Nine years since this lovely restaurant opened, and I am falling in love all over again. read more

The waiter was so nice I feel bad criticizing. It's just that I've been living in the Middle East for the past 3 years and this was merely a B+ experience. And it's too expensive. The chicken kabob was tender but bland. The beef kefta was not bland, but the spices were nothing special. The grape leaves also weren't very tasty. On the vegetarian platter, the hummus was much too clumpy and hard to dip. Didn't care for the Baba Ganoush or the eggplant dip. The one stand out were the Arabic fries. They weren't kidding with all that garlic stuff. I got one entree that was basically grilled chicken over mashed potatoes, and it was too much of one taste. The falafel on a pita is really good though. My boyfriend and I both got that last time, with our own sides of mashed potatoes. The portions are really big though so we regretted not splitting an order. We were one of two tables in the whole restaurant and it still took half hour for our food. I love, love, love Ranoush for gorgeous Mediterranean cuisine. Vegetarian Mezza for 2 is always a winner for us. So fresh, so wonderful. The best Tabbouleh in town. I seriously crave the food for days after eating there. My only complaint is that the Kirkwood location was sold and is no longer Ranoush. Quality went way down . The Loop is a tad more committal and parking is a total pain, but still worth it. read more

I went here on two occasions. I can say that this is one of the better places for Middle Eastern food in St. Louis, and the atmosphere is unique. The lighting is dim during the evening, and Middle Eastern music is constantly playing (a belly dancer will most likely come around to your table at least once as well). Both times, we ordered the kebab dish with some appetizers. The meat was well seasoned and tender, and I found the overall portion sizes to be adequate. We had the chicken shawarma, beef shawarma, hummus, and another small appetizer that I don't know how to spell. We choose to eat outside on the sidewalk. Service was fast and kind. Food was terrific everything was done expertly. Only wished we had tried more but we were so stuffed we had to bring some back to the hotel. I had a blue moon and we debated a hookah but then it started to rain so that axed the idea. We parked on the street directly in front of the restaurant it was sunday so no quarters needed. I ordered garlic bread, kebabs for main course and fries. Although the food tasted great in the beginning, it started getting chewy after a while. Meat were not juicy enough. Service was really good.
