I first tried their food at my co workers baby shower as she and her husband catered from Vindu. It was so delicious that I came to the restaurant 2 weeks later to dine in for dinner. We started with the Gobi Manchurian, which was soft yet a bit crispy with just a tiny hint of spice. I didn't know you could make cauliflower so flavorful! For entrees, we got the Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, and of course garlic naan. I loved the onions and bell peppers in the Tikka Masala. Both sauces were flavorful. The restaurant is clean. It's located in a small business strip on the edges of downtown Farmington. The inside is small and simply furnished. They had a fragrance circulating that was very floral and smelled nice. After answering a bunch of questions and getting some great recommendations from our server, we settled on our dinner choices. The food was DELICIOUS! We shared an appetizer called Gobi Manchurian (it was cauliflower with a spiced tomato sauce) that was terrific. We each ordered a different curry meal and paired it with some garlic naan. The decor is nice and the lighting features are fancy. I had the Palak Paneer ( puréed spinach and Indian cottage cheese) with mild spice. My dish turned out good . My other half had goat curry, which he also enjoyed. WE also had an appeziter of Chili Chicken- and it was way spicy that I could not eat it. We asked for medium and got extreme heat! Also all the tables had bottled water on that tables, not sure if something is wrong with the city water? But everyone got a nice Kirkland brand of bottled water. The service was slow. So that's why the three stars. There was one waiter and several people that would come out from the kitchen and put food on customers' tables. It was the wait for the food and then waiting for the check that took the longest. It's clean, new and nicely decorated inside. My husband liked their scent inside, it didn't smell like curry, more like an incense or potpourri. Our waiter was attentive, nice and informative too. We ordered the gobi manchurian, vegetable kadai, bhindi masala, plain dosa, Chana masala and Andhra chicken curry. The waiter double checked to make sure our spice level and he commented that we ordered a lot of food, asked if we would be packing food to take home. I assured him we will eat it all. We usually order one more dish usually. The dosa was big and long, so crunchy and nicely toasted on the outside. It was nice with all of the chutneys and the soup too. It would have been nice to be offered another dosa with our meal for free since we aren't getting any rice or bread with our 4 entree items and they give you a rice with every entree too. They cut us up some fresh lemons for our waters. The gobi is crispy, deep robust flavors, not as sweet as some others, the chili sauce is a dark brown coloring here, it's quite tasty. The chutneys are good, tomato, coconut and the ginger are all good, the ginger is my favorite. The tomato and ginger are spicy. The andhra chicken is yummy, nice flavor change with the ginger chutney. The veggie kadai is so flavorful and veggie packed. The Chana masala is good, as it should be. The bhindi masala has a nice flavor. A bit mushier here than others, still good. All of the dishes are nicely seasoned and have a nice kick to them all, since we ordered them all medium spice. The entrees cost a bit more than other Indian spots, but the portions are also bigger as well. We did end up with leftovers from 3 of the dishes, this was a first time taking Indian leftovers for sure. The seasonings, spices and flavors were all good in our dishes. Robust flavors. The chutneys give bites of the foods different flavor enhancements to change it up some, as all of the 4 curries tasted similar with slight spice notes. We were told it would take a few minutes to get our to go containers. They gave us small plastic containers with tops and bags too, keeping it clean. This is officially the best Indian I have ever had and will now be at the top of my list for restaurants in the area!! We are here in a Friday night and the place was packed but we were still able to be seated immediately. They had take out orders lined up at the cash register, so you know it's popular for that too. The waiter was so so sweet and insisted on making me his signature cocktail which was very good! I couldn't tell you what was in it haha, but it was only $7! They have a well stocked bar for any drink you can imagine. We ordered samosas for an appetizer which did have a kick to them. Then we split butter chicken and gongura chicken with butter naan. Everything was absolutely delicious. Food came out quick, the waiter checked on us at a regular interval. This was such a great meal and we will be back! The menu for the lunch thalis was a joke. It was so faded and wrinkled, could barely see it. NO PRICES on it. A menu needs to have prices. When we asked about the special we had seen online, were told it was only available for take out. What??? Did not say that. By this time we were getting v. frustrated. They do NOT act like a place that wants our business. We left. This has happened more than once. Will not be going back there again. Especially since we tried a new place, just up the road. Owner personally comes to every table Everytime to make sure everyone is happy with their experience. One of the gems of this place are the cocktails. Not stale. Veg Samosa: 10/10 Wow. Yes. Potatoes and peas were not overpowering with spices. Good over all flavor. Crispy and fresh. The Mint & Tamarind Chutney (aka Imli Chutney depending on what part of India you/your chef is from, this can have different names)..... anyway both the green sauce and dark brown/red saw was flavor packed and worked well with the Samosas. The mint was fragrant and fresh, could really taste it, this was definitely made fresh that day or the day before. I like this place bc they are attentive to the small details. We've ordered from Rao Gari on multiple occasions now and here's how it has been off late. You call, you're immediately put on hold for eternity before someone can finally get back to you for your order. You finally place your order only to be told the wait is 1.5 hours!! Sighh, you give in and get there to pick your order only to be told to wait another 30-45mins! Weekends or weekdays, this place seems busy which is a great thing for them but the team here needs to seriously pull themselves up on the waiting aspect. If you dont know how to estimate your wait time, PLEASE DONT PROMISE a specific delivery time. The standard wait time is 2 hours. This happened to me on multiple occasions. The only thing that kept me coming back here is their decent food, thus 1 star. Maintining a restaurant is not just providing good food. Its a multi-factorial thing and timing is highly imperative. I dont recommend this place at all for people who value their time. Love this place! Shivi makes the atmosphere here absolutely wonderful and welcoming. He also makes the most awesome cocktails. Love that every drink (including the mango and lychee martinis) are little sugar and all quality! Absolutely refreshing to see an Indian restaurant serve such quality cocktails! This is definitely the highlight of Vindu. The food was great as well! The channa bhatura was good and we loved that it was not made oily like other places. Long post - Indian restaurant Rao Giri Vindhu in Farmington Hills So last night we had the worst restaurant experience ever!! We thought we will have a nice quick dinner at this Indian restaurant in Farmington hills... so it was a little bit of a drive but they have this Fish entree which I like ... so we went. We arrived at about 7:40 and were seated immediately. The manager was pleasant and took our order immediately! We did not order any appetizer... just a chicken curry, Palak paneer and Tawa Fish ( pan fried fish which takes lesser time to make as compared to tandoori fish ... so we were told) So we waited ... and waited ... and waited !! It was 45 mins since we ordered and when we asked the manager ... he was apologetic and said oh the fish takes time it should be done in 5 mins!! The wait continues.... Ten mins later the hostess walks up and says sorry the fish should be ready soon!! Vik and I were exhausted and hungry but just said ok the darn fish is what's causing the delay. Rest of the people in the restaurant seems to be getting some sort of appetizers out ... we waited!! 1 hour and 10 mins later the waiter brought our food out ... the phulkas were burnt and crisp like papad ... the chicken, paneer and rice was cold ... still no fish!! We waited again ... then they brought out the Tawa Fish on a plate ... cold!!!! OMG ... I just cannot believe they treat their customers like that!!! The owner of the establishment... a very unimpressive character dressed sloppily... was called to our table. He did not bat an eyelid at the complaint ... did not say a word!! Not a sorry ... Let me check this ... let me fix it ... NOTHING just started at us like we were speaking in some alien language which he didn't understand!!! Pathetic behavior!! So at close to 9 we walked out without eating dinner... and yeah ... that happened! While we were waiting for our food at Rao Giri Vindhu, no attempt was made to make us comfortable... no chai/ coffee offered or attempt to make us sit thru the hour ten minute ordeal while we were so hungry!! To top it all ... the general attitude was ... this is what we have take it or leave it!! Complete disregard for their customers ... complete lack of restaurant running skills and definitely no common sense!! I shudder to think about what happens in the kitchen if the management is so useless!! Never will we go back to this restaurant and will strongly recommend not soliciting this place at all!! They are freaking nuts and should not be in business! Lucky for us we were able to eat fresh hot pizza within ten minutes at Tomatoes Apizza across the street!
